THE OFFICIAL 2023 DALLAS COWBOYS OFF-SEASON THREAD || Cowboys Gonna Cowboy

Since I have another 2 weeks and nothing else to do, I'm really going to try and track this year's draft. Normally I would tune out and only watch 5 minutes

I used to have a party and do a quasi bracket similar to ncaa just an excuse to drink and gamble though now it's way to spread out I can't set aside 4 days for a damn draft

I'll probably just watch Day 1 & Day 2. Gets me through the first 3 rounds. After that, trying to figure out players will be too tough.

I just did my own Depth Chart, and where I think we should go, and separated it into three categories.

Must Draft -
1. DT - Melton is coming off injury, and Hayden to me is only a rotational guy. To me it's far more important than DE.
2. LG - There is literally no one in the position.

Should Draft -
1. FS/SS (I have my feelings that JJ can be moved to FS like in College, so either or works for me. Love Bucannon, but if they go somewhere else, that's fine)
2. ROLB/LOLB (tough because Durant & Carter can be good, and I like Holloman as a backup, but there's something not enough about them).

Right Players Only (If our pick comes up and there's an absolute steal i.e. Dez at #24) -
1.RT (We don't need to move Free to LG, I fear the great leaps he took last year could be hurt by moving him again, but if there's a steal at RT, do it),
2. DE (it's shaky because we don't know what Spencer will do or if he can do anything but even without him we have 5 DE's
3. WR - Unless a great receiver drops, I can't think of a reason to spend a 1st - 4th round on a WR. It's also not like we need a 1st or 2nd receiver. We just need a #3. Harris would be a great 4. And Beasley is a great quick under routes guy. Since we have a bunch of picks in the 7th, that's where I think we should wait.

Even with all of those d ends not one is a weakside starter on any other team. If Barr is available I take him even if he can only play passing downs. Wouldn't mind jernigan to clog the middle in the first if bar is gone. I'm giving Johnson his last shot at the safety job and praying for a miracle. This team got ran all over last year so I see the need for a dt but a passrusher is severely needed.

1000% Agree with everything you just said.

Just think this way... Draft is every year, and we're trying to build a championship team. We have an outside chance at the playoffs (Wild Card Spot), but we can't beat 49ers, Seahawks if we had to face them.

On Defense, we've drafted:
2010: Lee
2011: Carter
2012: Claiborne
2013: Wilcox

And draft 3 guys to start: DT, OLB (probably on Durant's side, since Carter had the better year), FS

That's 7 guys starting drafted this decade, and we are not halfway through the decade yet.

Crawford, Webb, Bass & Holloman all under 25.

On offense:
2010: Dez
2011: Tyron, Harris, Murray (Although I don't see Murray here for long)
2012: Hanna, Beasley
2013: Frederick, Escobar, Williams

Our core exception of Romo & Witten is still very young. Even Carr is only 27.

I'd really like us to try and trade Hanna or Escobar for an extra draft pick in a mid round if possible. Yeah we run the 2TE sets, so having 3 makes sense, but wouldn't it be easier to sure up the depth elsewhere through the draft, and try and sign a veteran for cheap as insurance. If we just drafted Escobar last season, Hanna becomes expendable. Witten isn't letting on that he wants to retire in the next few years.

Been working heavy on the draft.

Have a depth chart done. Just what our current lineup looks like.

Should have top 15 rankings for: DT, DE, S (FS & SS combined), OLB, OG, OT, WR, CB.

Pick of 5 guys we should look at for each of the first 4 rounds.

Thursday & Friday of Draft will be a day heavy on Soda & Fast Food

So the Saints, Texans and SF games have been sold out since Wednesday, meaning you can only pay the inflated prices for tickets, smh.

Looking at scoring Giants/Skins in October now.

Tickets go live today for the public at 2pm I believe.

What!??

Should I even try my luck at 2pm today.. tryna hit that saints/boys!

Mel Kiper & Todd McShay did a joint draft, where they alternate picks.

1st Round Ha Ha Clinton Dix (although they have Barr going 30, if Barr is available and Donald & Pryor are gone, Barr will be the pick)
2nd Round they have us taking Timmy Jernigan...

Man if he's available 2nd Round for us :pimp:

Depth Chart:

1200

One position finalized:

1200

Have Ranked: DT, DE, S, OLB. But need to put quick scouting.

Have to rank: CB. But will probably only look at the 5-20.

Was going to do WR, but it is way too hard. I don't see us spending a top 3 round pick on WR. That would knock you to probably the 20th rank WR. That's too hard to look at.

Nice work :nthat: Can't wait to see the rest.

Defensive Ends. Kareem Martin is my sleeper. Everybody loves him, but more I look at him, the better he looks. Especially for us.

I never really heard of him but this dude on Twitter was talking about how good a fit Kareem Martin would be for us.

At this point I'm pretty much hoping for us to trade down and hopefully get another second. Earlier in the year I was ok with standing pat at 16 because I thought Evans would be there, that's obviously not happening now, and I felt better about Pryor and Clinton-Dix than I do now. Now I just don't know who realistically will be there at 16 who wouldn't be a reach.

But that's just from my quick scan of the draft boards, I haven't put the work in that you guys have

I would say there's 4 guys

1. Donald
2. Barr
3. Pryor
4. Clinton Dix

Could make an argument for Zack Martin, who's the #1 OG on the board. He's a OT, but most people think he's better at Guard due to lack of size.

If those 4 are gone, there really isn't anywhere for us to go, unless someone really slips. We should probably trade out of the first and hope to get a 2nd & 3rd in return.

If Jernigan has really fallen as far as a few mocks have him, we could go Jernigan & Martin round 2., and have a beastly line with a lot of depth this year. Then hope Bucannon (Wash. St.) or Brooks (FSU) are available with Gabe Jackson. We would have addressed everything, but OLB, which I think we could get away with. Then have the 4th, 5th, and 6 7th picks to just go wherever we want on the board.

Off subject.. If you haven't seen it try to catch NFL Network's A Football Life: The Great Wall of Dallas. Talks about our O-Line in the 1990s. Leading up to it, how they performed, and life after football. Absolutely amazing that a lot of those guys on that line were unwanted rejects from other teams.

Lol yeah no Donald I doubt it happens but I think Barr might fall to us

As for Clinton Dix and Pryor Dallas won't draft them at 16 they didn't invite them in for visits they met with Reid last year and passed on him before they traded down because they didn't have a first round grade on him. If they don't think Reid is a first rounder then I doubt they see Ha Ha and Pryor as one

I kind hope we draft Ha Ha Clinton Dix because I'm a child and I chuckle inside at the inappropriate irony in his name
