THE OFFICIAL 2023 DALLAS COWBOYS OFF-SEASON THREAD || Cowboys Gonna Cowboy

Garretts Dec/Jan record is 8-11.
Everybody focuses on Romo's record, but I think the head coaches record is way more important.
Who can solve this riddle?
Breaking even is good for business

Breaking even is good for business

When the QB plays awful in Dec/Jan, and has brain fart after brain fart, the QB is going to be blamed before the coach.

Even though I started to blame Romo around the Green Bay game, after week 17, I just can't. That game showed most of our problems fall on JG.

Everybody seems to forget how Romo played under Sean Payton.
He was encouraged to be a great football player.
Not just a statistics machine.
Still waiting on someone to solve the riddle

Just good enough to let us have high hopes for next year not good enough to actually do anything

Mo got a 6 on the wonderlic test a 6!!!
Come on man!

I think a high wonderlic is a requirement for less athletic players.
Mo is a good enough athlete to overcome his mental challenges.
Never saw him really blow a coverage.

Hadowajp good guess

Not saying it's the be all end all but look at the worst scores (really the only ones that get released) and most of those players are trash. I really liked Mo in college, but so far he has been a disappointment in Dallas

Just read this
Wonderlic, Inc. claims that a score of at least 10 points suggests a person is literate, and the average football player scores around 20 points.

In Mo's defense he said the test wasn't about football, so he didn't care what the score was and didn't take it serious.
Here's the BTB write up on his response.
ESPN Dallas

I'm pretty sure he didn't even look at it just filled in all "c's" or something. His score obviously didn't affect where he was taken, and his money is still better then mine. Plus he didn't have to pay school back... I just found it funny

It's definitely a good laugh.
I wish I could find the interview when he responded to the critics.
Did yall know Mo says he's faster than Patrick Peterson?
Said they had a race at LSU and he won.

big year for Mo, he has the skills he just needs the reps, stay healthy, focus and stay positive, if he gets some confidence going he will be fine

he's one of the best corners I've scouted the past few years, again he has the athletic and physical tools, it's the other stuff he needs to work on

Lee saying healthy, Mo even coming close to his potential along with Carter playing like he did in 2012 could be all this defense needs. Outside of Dline of course  :smh: But really, those guys stay on the field and play the way they're expected to, the defense will see a massive improvement.

add some pass rush to that and I totally agree

you do the play break downs right? is our secondary that bad (when we had healthy starters in the beginning of the year) or is it due to lack of pass rush?

im no football expert (not many are) but i see a huge difference in how Tony gets pressured and who we are playing with.

Obviously its a combo of both, but how much would you say the troubles of our pass defense is a lack of pressure?

I broke down a lot of stuff last year and I thought our pass D had holes but for the most part the coverage was good and the pass rush sucked. Now this year, I had to leave BTB due to work and did not break down much plays, but the stuff I did this is what I saw.

-Good in man to man coverage, had the pass rush been better or somewhat existent, then our man coverage would have been very good. Our corners are more effective in man scheme, press too.

-Zone coverage was a problem, whether it was unfamiliarity with the scheme or just not smart enough football players our zone was very bad. Too many gaps, we did not have a true FS who could play single high safety roam the field and close in on plays. This is one of the reasons I have been pushing for a traditional FS with range and ball skills. IF WE EVER get one, I guarantee turnovers will go up and our pass D will be so much better.

-The pass rush was the reason this defense failed last year and in 2012. It has gone from a decent pass rush to almost non existent. I swear to you for most of this season if Hatcher or Selvie weren't getting push, then you would watch entire games of QBs having all the time in the world to pick us apart. No matter how good your secondary is, they cannot cover over a certain amount of time.

-Our corners and safeties were left out to dry because of that.

-Also our corners and safeties lack ball skills. Mo was a beast at that in college but that was college. Carr has poor ball skills, especially going up and getting the football, he took a step back from last year. Scandrick has the worst ball skills on the team but is a very good cover guy. Church is a SS, almost a hybrid SS/LB and has poor ball skills. You can have one or two guys with bad ball skills and get away with but when your entire secondary is bad at that you will not generate enough turnovers and make plays on the ball in the air and force incompletions. They must get better at that or bring in players who are good at that.

-Turnovers were happening early on but thats because our DL was doing a decent job of disrupting. It's not all about pass rush, you just have to get some push and disrupt things.

In conclusion focus on that DL, if we even get decent DL play next year, this defense will be so much better. And they need to add a FS with ball skills.

Nfl wr's are great at what they do, if you give the qb the time it takes for a wr to run a full route most of the time he's going to be open. Now the key is to "rush" the quarterbacks decision and force a bad read or a throw prior to the route opening up. When a quarterback has all day he can go through his progressions and find the open man, last year it wouldn't have mattered if we had prime time, sherman, and revis back there.

And scandricks hands may be the worst I've ever seen, he has about four pick six's per season that end up being pass breakups because he can't hang on to the ball

Yeah he's signing with them :smh: :smh: :smh: :smh: :smh:

I don't know guys, I'm already depressed about next season  This past season was our best shot to make the playoffs.
