THE OFFICIAL 2023 DALLAS COWBOYS OFF-SEASON THREAD || Cowboys Gonna Cowboy

I think Austin will be fine... Cowboys have potential with Harris, but they still need Miles in the mix. If Ogletree continued with his hot start & stayed consistent all season, it might be a different story, but I see him coming back.

Romo needs to mange games and not try to be the star get a good line let murray run and playaction

Well it's hard to manage games when your Rushing game is 31st in the NFL and your Passing attack is #3.. And if you hadn't noticed Murray can't stay healthy.. Romo is the Cowboys.. He's the reason we won 8 games.. Now just imagine if we had a run game or a Defense that pressures opposing QBs or forced turnovers.. We'd be in the playoffs every year

Austin Is Staying. Restructured Alot Of Contracts.. Happy About That...

Sensabaugh Getting Released... Eh, He Was good. Didn't make big plays, but really didn't cost us big plays..  That Defense got hit with the injury bug hard last season with LB's and the safetys... Church NOW needs to be healthier than ever.

Not feelin the tag spencer got PAY THE MAN, we need safety help as well I say grab Goldson quick!!!! Do it Jerry.

with the cap issues and how trash he was before this year i rather let him walk. they tagged him so they can sign him to a long term deal.

They also might have tagged him to trade him and at least get something for him. A soon to be 30+ year old, in a changing scheme, who only stepped up big in his contract year makes me kinda nervous.

Dallas Cowboys Signed safety Will Allen from steelers. Happy we filled the Safety position. Still wondering how we were able to afford him with just under 200k cap.

fiasco, i dont think we filled the spot, i think they signed allen as an insurance policy..im thinking barry church and matt johnson are the starters as of now...and i think they will draft a safety (probably reid or vacarro) to chalenge and ultimately take matt johnsons job...barry church is safe if hes healthy...

i like the addition of justin durant..hes a local dude so ive followed his career and i think dude is nice..hes productive and most importantly he brings pure SPEED..and beside sean lee and bruce carter he should flourish, expect him to raise alot of eyebrows and make a name for himself in dallas...had over 100 tackles last year in detroit to give u an idea of his production...

Welp.

Hate or Love it Romo is here to stay.

I'm indifferent at this point.

Smh romo is here to stay no1 is gonna eat that contract

Who do you replace Romo with if we would have gotten rid of him? We are on the right track giving him a better team around him and it starts in the trenches. The first 4 rounds of the draft should be used on OL and DL imo. It didnt even cross my mind that we wouldnt get a deal done unless Romo himself was uncooperative.

You really can't replace him the market for QBs are not that great and no one is going to trade their franchise QB either, I get tired of how ppl keep blaming him as to the reason why the cowboys cant make a playoff run its not him we get nice in our secondary especially SAFETIES we good money, when was the last time we had good or great safety??.....

There is no viable option to replace Romo right now which is why I said that I'm indifferent to him getting an extension.

There is no QB in free agency right now and there isn't a stud QB in the draft this year like there was with Luck and RGIII last year.

The propensity to **** up at the most inopportune time aside, Romo is the best option for the Cowboys at QB right now.

6 years though :smh:

3 or 4 I understand, but 6...

Although I do agree. Nothing better out there.

Round 1 better be an OL.. Chance Warmack or Jonathan Cooper...

Are we moving Ware and Spencer as our Defensive Ends..

Because with the signing of Durant, and still having Sean Lee... Someone from the outside linebacker spot would have to move up to the line.

Ware, Spencer, Lee, Durant, Albright, Sims, Carter.... Pretty much means that Ware & Spencer are our new DEs.

I'm out of the loop on that, so if someone could enlighten me on it.

Holes that need to be filled:

Backup Running Back (Dunbar and Tanner are not good enough, especially with Murray's injury problems)
Left Guard
Right Guard
Second Defensive Tackle
Third Corner (I don't think Scandrick should be third on the chart)

1st round Left Guard..Try to move up to the late first and go after a Defensive Tackle or go an alternate route and try to get both Guard positions locked up in the 1st Round....

Also still hoping McCray comes back, but Will Allen pretty much ended that.

^yea ware and spence are our ends...they both played d end in college, but thats been a while so theyll have to adjust..i expect them to thrive there tho, especially spence..i read he dropped in coverage 30% of plays last year in robs scheme, which is entirely too much in my book..straight containment and rushing the passer as a 4-3 end..no more coverage..

and im not opposed to trading back in round 1 either, this draft happens to be DEEP at our biggest need positions...which is rare...not opposed to taking straight oline/dline first few rounds..but we need to address safety, if eric reid is there round 2, take him...will allen is insurance (hopefully).

nd ill miss mccray as well..dude was MONEY on special teams..i think we can get a servicable running back late in the draft..but thats obvious a position of need...

all in all im looking forward to what jerry jones does with this new money he got from today...not to mention spears is a june 1 cut so we will get 2mil more then...more than likely free will be too, which will add anothet 7mil in cap space...so were shaping up

both ware and spencer will be at DE

Alright thanks.

I like the defense... Just a little bit more depth in the secondary would be welcomed....

VA.. I think we need OLine that much... Still baffles me at how we got that OLine of the 90s.. Makes no kinds of sense..

I think with Ware & Spencer on the Line, it kind of lessens the need a bit.. Especially with Durant being good at play recognition and run stopping.. Makes a hole in the interior smaller.

Not sure how this 4-3 def is gonna work honestly
eyes.gif
it has its flaws but monty is the originator of the tampa 2, and he had a high level of success with it...so im optomistic...

plus it really helps ratliff out...no more double teams, full steam ahed..

it helps dware/spence out so they wont drop in coverage EVER again...which lets do do what they do best...

it opens up lanes for sean lee/bruce carter to fly to the ball...and we all know theyre both very skilled cover guys...lee especially excels in zone reads..

only thing were missing is a ball hawk safety to play the deep half...

im all for it man...i think our defense is gonna be NASTY...and its easier to pull guys off the street in a 4-3 when the injuires start piling up..which is inevitable with us it seems...

Ratliff will still face double teams though....the mismatches he will creates will inevitably cause teams to double him. Not as much as befroe in the 3-4 but later in the season they will be sliding his way.
