THE OFFICIAL 2023 DALLAS COWBOYS OFF-SEASON THREAD || Cowboys Gonna Cowboy

What are the odds we could get nkemdechi for cheap like greggory? Or is his case a bit too extreme for Steven and Garrett

I wouldnt draft him, you gotta look at secondary IMO. Carr may be cut and Mo can leave in free agency. If we are going to keep Byron at safety get a Hargraves, if you want him to be a corner get Ramsey (i think hes a better safety than corner).

I havent looked into the QB's much yet so idk if any of them have franchise potential.

I like Treadwell but im not big on having him and Dez on the same team, neither are great route runners nor are either burners downfield.

If we get a Top 5 pick.. Could always trade back to 10th and pick up a couple more picks.. I think that would be just as smart considering we have holes at QB, RB, interior DLine, Possibly DE if we don't keep Hardy, and all over the secondary.

Sounds like a solid plan i like ramsey alot.. if we pass on him I hope we are right about jones.. I like him alot better at saftey also. Hargraves or the kid from Iowa.. im biased towards T white from LSU in the 2nd or 3rd only cause he is a 2nd cousin of mine lol imo he got ate up vs bigger receivers.. I was only thinkin of taking nkemdechi only if he fell to the 3rd or later.. i think theres alot of fire to the story of him falling out of the window.

We need DBs, DT, RB/QB/TE

We've had LBs leading our defense in interceptions for like 2 straight years. We need ballhawking defenders and an improved pass rush. CB and Safety should be top priority.

If we go after any free agents, I want Janoris Jenkins. Otherthan that, build in the draft. We need an H-Back/TE also. Not the usuall 6'6" 260+ type of TEs.

More along the lines of 6'3"/6'4" 245-255. Need more guys who can break tackles, and a change in offensive philosophy and play calling. Our offense is the most uncreative, predictable offense in the league.

Another offseason for Lucky Whitehead should help too. His speed and gamebreaking ability needs to be put to use. Not just on special teams.

What do you think about LB? Its a concern IMO. Lee is injured a lot and McClain can leave after this year too. Not to mention McClain is one more off field slip up from missing a lot of time. Cant really trust either to be on the field most of the year. I would still address the DB position first but its just somethin to think about.

Needless the roster needs a lot of work

I really want a good group of linebackers. We all know the issues romac and lee have I want to find a gamebreaking HEALTHY linebacker also.. we just cant have everything at once i suppose lol.. I really believe if the iffence were better alot of these positions we are talking about would not even be in play.. besides corner, linebacker, and a few on offense I really hope we can find someone to help us get rid of hayden.. dude is BUNS im not sure how he has been a starter for so long

I would make Hardy a top 10 paid defensive lineman. 5 year / $55mil. Puts him 8th. Guarantee $40mil which would T2nd for % guaranteed of top 18 lineman contract valued.

Also put a morality clause that allows for termination for off-field incidents.

If he makes it through without issue maybe put in a vested year on top.

Would be a steal contract wise. Suh got $114mil for 6 and McCoy got $95 for 6. Hardy probably would have gotten $30+ mil and a year more if he wasn't a jerk, Don't see a team going much higher on Hardy if at all for the media circus he is.

You rotate Hardy, Lawrence & Gregory.

Can rotate Hardy into a DT when we run a Nickle which would be a killer pass rush of Gregory, Hardy, Crawford & Lawrence.

Then draft a DT that can pass rush behind Crawford.

I like having mainly pass rush guys because I feel Hitch and Lee can do a lot against the run for us.

Keep Hayden as a rotation guy.

And finally look for a reclamation project at DT. Cheap low risk guy after the draft.

I think that is enough pass rush and youth to have a solid front 4 for a while. If we can run some stunts and get more than a 4 man rush on occasion that's a big step.

As for cap wise, I'd do all that by cutting Carr. $7mil in dead cap but $6mil in savings for the first year

In the lost I seen upside in Moore, he has a rocket arm and not scared to throw down the field. He needs some more game time, but we may have some thing there

Yea ive seen plenty zip on the valls he has thrown today.. Crazy because all ive ever read about him is how he has a weak arm. Looks like he should have been the starter in Romo's absent all this time..

Eh I didn't see anything special. Just a guy with nothing to lose right now. He's got 2 more games, but I'd still start looking at drafting a QB somewhere between 2-4th.

Of course.. id feel cumfy with drafting someone and the rookie being 3rd string with moore as romo's primary back up.. I like the fact that he actually completed balls to the recievers.

Moore has the intelligence, which cannot be coached. Ryan Mallett can throw 60+ yards, but is not accurate, no pockey awareness. Arm strength is overrated.

Moore is 6' 200lbs. He's average size (Like Brees, Jeff Garcia, or Russell Wilson) and his arm is decent. He can throw it fairly well. We need to keep him on board. Left handed quarterbacks pose a big problem. Since their blind side is the right tackle, Doug Free better come to play. I hope we keep Moore on board.

This offseason is gearing up to be quite interesting. The Cowboys will more than likely be able to create over 40 million in cap space next year. I go after Eric Berry this off season. This team seriously needs a safety. Wilcox has been nothing short of terrible with all the bad angles he takes and Church gets juked out by everyone and their grandmother.

Going into the offseason as the underdogs will also alleviate much pressure. Too much "Super Bowl ready" talk by the players this year. Bought into their own hype.

I also understand Garrett just signed an extension but how you can keep a coach that loses 9 games (would have been 10 if it weren't for Desean Jackson) without your starting QB is absurd. Romo has masked the deficiencies in Garrett for years and it was thoroughly exposed this year when he couldn't come up with ant gameplan to outcoach/out scheme the opposing team. If Romo doesn't change the plays at the line/play sandlot football this team doesn't have a chance. I'm hoping Jerry realizes his time is short on this earth and if he wants another championship you have to go into 'win now' mode and get Sean Payton.

I also don't want our next QB being groomed under Garrett and his dated variation of 'Air Coryell'

Can't wait to just be done with this season.

Moore played ok. He obviously has a little tunnel vision. The first two ints were from other defenders creeping from their assignments and the last int was desperation. Other than that he at least threw downfield. Also, I feel like the receivers suddenly started dropping less when he came in. Makes me wonder about the accuracy and the exact spots Romo/Moore and Weeden/Cassell would throw too.

Defense is not bad at all. Somehow w/o a pass rush and never getting turnovers they've kept us in every game. The 7th round rookie gets activated for this game and gets a pick that our CBs who've been playing all year couldn't come up with.

. I'd rather us get some more pass rushers and LBs and completely load up. LB is a inconsistent (Romac)/ injury (Lee) issue for us and having a good pass rush will mask the secondary being so bad. The year we led the league in sacks (09?) secondary wasn't a issue at all.

I'm not worried about our future. We have an extremely young avg age and it looks like Jones, Collins, Lawrence, Gregory are going to be good players. Get the future qb and sit him. He'll undoubtedly play some games due to Romo injury.

The way this season panned out hurts though.

I'm confused, watching Weeden play for the Texans and he looks more competent and knowledgeable. Starting to think the Cowboys QB coaching staff is awful

Weeden has never been good though. Never. He should not have been on the team even as a backup.

Been looking at over the cap a bit.

We have $9.955mil in cap space going into next year with 45 guys under contract.

$8.426mil is going to our picks. (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, comp 4th, 6th, comp 6th, comp 6th).

We have 18 free agents... Of those...

MUST KEEP: Hardy, Dunbar (should be really cheap due to injury severity), Ro. McClain..
I don think McClain has a huge market due to past off field stuff and he had more trouble this year.
RFA Tender Ron Leary, and see where the market is for him.

If market is cheap, KEEP: Mo Claiborne

If needed final additions: Nick Hayden, Kyle Wilbur, Danny McCray

Say goodbye to: Bernadeau, Mincey, Cassel, J. Crawford, Clutts, C. Brown, Turbin, Heath

To open up cap.
(Dead Money / Savings)

1. Brandon Carr pre- June: ($7.4m / $6.383mil). Post June 1 ($4.717m / $9.1m)
2. Barry Church: ($500k / $2.75m)
3. Re-structure Tyrone Crawford to add an extra mil or two in cap space.
4. Street pre-June ($100,985 / $549,507). Post June 1 ($50k / $600k)
5. Ka'Lial Glaud $600K
6. Rod Smith $525K
7. Michael Hill $525K

So we could open up a total of $22-25mil in cap throughout the offseason for keeping FA, signing FA and draft picks

Hardy, Dunbar, Ro. McClain.
Go after Eric Berry

Draft RB, DT, DB as biggest needs.
Then: QB, WR, LB help, more secondary help

If Berry isn't a possibility and I don't think he is. Maybe throw our name in for Norman. And make FS as a biggest need in draft

What is Bernadeau's situation? Isnt he our backup center as well as swing gaurd? I say we keep him

He's unrestricted. Typically that would make it slightly tougher to keep him compared to Leary's restricted.

But on the other hand factoring in he's 29 to Leary's 26. He likely won't get a FA bid that makes him a starter. So unless Leary really has no market (I doubt that - Parnell got a **** ton of money).

I'd be fine with Bernadeau if he is relatively cheap. If he's over $3mil, pass because we need that money for more important needs.
