THE OFFICIAL 2023 DALLAS COWBOYS OFF-SEASON THREAD || Cowboys Gonna Cowboy

I see about 17 spots that need to be filled...

4 Starters on Defense.. (DE, DT, DB, FS)

5 Really Important Backups (QB, RB, LG, 3rd DB, Backup MIKE)

Other 8 are late rounds and UDFA

Just saw the money the Giants have Janoris Jenkins

12 mil a year? No thanks...

Janoris Jenkins' career cover stats:

Yds allowed: 2,989 (3rd most since '12 by CB)
TD allowed: 22 (3rd)

700

Lot of moves happening in free agency an we aint did nothing but a resign? Smh

Bruh you see these numbers teams are spending huge money on good players great players never see free agency

And janoris is a guess and go corner like Asante Samuel just not as good at jumping routs

Most importantly there are still some good players available that will cost a lot less since the teams with big money spent huge today

Can't keep sitting on the market every year... And hope you get guys cheap... After a while, you must recognize that you need to add names in FA, not keep thinking you can get by on guys who slip through the cracks.... We can't blame it on our cap situation either.

There's spending for spending sake, and spending because a guy fills a need and is good. There's also being stubborn on a ridiculous principle.

Nonetheless...

Guys I'd Chase....

Cornerback: Sean Smith, Casey Hayward, Prince Amukamara, Mo Claiborne & Charles Tillman
Free Safety: Eric Weddle
Defensive End: Greg Hardy, Chris Long (Think you have to go Hardy, Long has been dropping quick)
Defensive Tackle: Akiem Hicks

Pretty much let the entire DE, DT & Safety market die, because we want to be "financially principled"

Yesterday's spending was all about the reaching the salary floor for the jags and raiders so that has people spending more than necessary

I'm all for getting the players we need just not down for the overpay that happens these first few days of free agency

Cedric Thornton signed 4 year / $18mil ($6mil guaranteed)

How I see the Current Depth Chart...

Red - Has to be addressed now, or 1st Two Rounds
Yellow - If we trade into another pick in the 2nd, 3rd & 4th... Also cheaper deals
Green - Late Rounds
Blue - Late Rounds / Undrafted Free Agents / Pick through the Post-June 1st Cuts

2000

But just spit balling on what are the BIGGEST needs, and what are most important right now.

Leary & Heath are RFA, so they are technically our players... Also HOPE Lance stays

A source, confirmed that Cowboys restructured Tyrone Crawford's contract, converting $5.5 million of his base into bonus to free up cap room

Doubt any late round pick passes Irving on the depth chart

Byron will be the free and church the strong next year if we don't get another free

We resigned Josh Thomas today not sure why just as a body I'm guessing

Hope green can be a solid swing or force free to the bench

Would you sign Cromartie for small money?

I wouldn't mind romac at Sam doubt it happens tho

Thanks for the spreadsheet man definitely nice to see it all laid out

Whoops That was a mixup. I changed the fields for MIKE and SAM and not the players. Back to RoMac at MIKE.

Partly have Irving 5th DT because I believe either Nick Hayden or Jack Crawford will be back, and Valley Ranch really loves those 2 guys. If they draft a late DT, then you move him 4th.

I wish we'd go Casey Hayward at DB

Cut Carr or restructure his contract in a way that creates the same amount of money. If we cut him, then look to keep Claiborne.

Chris Long at DE. Even though word is Ramsey is likely gone before 4, which opens up Bosa. So I'm meh on him..

Still would rather have Greg Hardy back. And the way it looks, nobody is really looking his way  Hardy for all his off field nonsense, and general douchebaggery, has a lot more versatility. Could make him top DE, and in the DT depth chart, and not have to worry about finding replacements

Then keep... Heath, Leary & Dunbar.

If Leary isn't possible then keep Bernadeau

Free was fine... The other 4 were elite, so whatever Free does is really inconsequential.

Cromartie wasn't particularly good last year, was worse than Carr based on PFF rating.. If he's the 4th DB fine.. And for a cheap 1 year deal. But I'd rather roll the dice on Claiborne to figure out a more defined role, and play for a contract

With signing Ro, Thomas, and Thornton we addresed 3 needs. Still need a DE. gotta have a contingency plan in case Ramsey isnt there, thats the only thing that worries me. With Thornton being signed it doesnt force us to take a DT like we planned to in the second round and we can pick one up in third.

I wouldnt mind Myles Jack if Ramsey is gone

If San Diego doesn't take Stanley, Conklin, or Tunsil for offense or buckner/bosa for d they're stupid so I have hope that Ramsey will be there

Kyle Wilber re-signed. 2 year deal. Smart move.

Really like what the LBs offer.

Still probably look at a MIKE in Round 3 or 4.

What I would still like to see between now and the draft...
1. Go after Casey Hayward (Has a lot of versatility at DB)
2. Either Cut Carr & Re-sign Mo, or Restructure Carr, so that it is the same as if we cut him.
3. Keep Leary on a 1 year deal.
4. Re-sign Jeff Heath for a couple seasons.. Great on ST, an okay backup
5. Try to hold onto Lance Dunbar
6. Chris Long at DE or Akiem Hicks at DT if the price is right

I'm elated that Mo is getting another shot...

But I really have to point out that Dallas has to realize that they still need a lot of secondary help and 1, if not 2 DLine starters

I like that we are protecting ourselves just in case Ramsey goes ahead of us. Figure if Hes there at 4 get him and have Carr be a post June 1 cut. If hes not there we may have to roll with Carr again.

Glad Hanna is back, very good blocker that we needed with Escobar likely out

Cowboys looking at Eric Weedle, Chris Long & Jack Crawford

I'd like the Crawford signing because presumably it'd be cheap, and when he's healthy (although that is a crap shoot), he is one of the most versatile lineman we'd have and can play all over.

Eric Weedle had a short list and we weren't on it. That is strike 1, even though he was someone I would have wanted to have. Strike 2, he's 31. Strike 3, he wants 3-4 years, and be paid like a Top Safety.

Chris Long was ranked really low as a DE, and is 30. If you want him, not sure how much you can rely on him starting. If we sign him, that's fine. But it would need to be cheap money.

If we're really worried about the DLine.... I think we should be keeping an eye on Greg Hardy. The longer he goes without interest, and that likely stays true, the better it would be for us. I don't give a damn about who he is off the field, or what he does or doesn't do in the locker room. He's a scumbag, and that's irrelevant to me. I don't think he is that much of a cancer to disrupt anything. Especially with the types of guys we already have on the team.

My biggest thing is that at this point, he's not getting a long term deal. And his guaranteed salary is not going to be high. I think it would end up being mostly performance based. You luck out on that.
