I was expecting these to encorporate some sort of FlyKnit or at least Engineered Mesh as the base, but I guess not...

It looks like they kept the FR3 sole. I'm not really feeling the fully exposed Dynamic FW, but I do like them a bit more than the 3s. With that said, nothing is touching the FR2.

Better than the FR3's but still not copping...don't like the sole, don't like the tongue, don't like the swoosh on the side.

Nike hit it out of the ballpark with the FR2. It didn't need a giant swoosh, just like the AM95

They hit a GRAND SLAM with the FR2s, imho. Everything was on point with them.

I'll still follow these, but it looks like 2013 is shaping up to be a great Lunar year. Frees... not so much, UNLESS they bring back MORE FR2s.

All the Flyknits so far look amazing, I just hope Nike doesn't decide to pull another FR3 and throw away everything that made the shoe a hit when designing the next generation Flyknit

I like the FR3 much more than these. With the flywire outside it makes the shoe looks real busy. It seems they also tried to incorporate some design cues from the FR2 (bigger picture shows a slight hint of the webbing design by the laceholes) while incorporating some pleated design by the toe, most likely mesh-like material. Just not a big fan at this point in time, my mind might change once I see it in person but the nice and simple design of the Free Run is now somewhat gone with this new version.

Not sure where the FR3 hate is coming from too, it's a very nice shoe design. I love the FR2 too but I certainly do not think the FR3 is a step down.

still not a fan of exposed flywire. I can't wait for the fall 2012 fr2 lineup to release. I might have to try to stock up on those. I don't have a single fr2 yet and I'm kicking myself over it. I do love my 2 pairs of fr3's thus far.

I tried to like them, and I almost got a pair based on some of the pictures I saw in the FR3 thread, but I couldn't pull the trigger.

My biggest gripe with the FR3 was the inclusion of, what I think were unnecessary additions for the sake of design and branding.

-The midsole wasn't clean like the FR2...now it had grooves and "5.0" written in an ugly font, but I do like the lower profile and flat look of the 5.0 sole.

-It had stars carved out all over the shoe

-There was mesh like some screen door to see the "skeleton" of the shoe...and in some cases the fusing of the mesh with the surrounding area and swoosh made it look like glue residue

The beauty of the FR2 was it's simplicity. It was light, and it looked light. It was streamlined, minimal and it embodied the exact idea of the whole "free run/barefoot running" concept.

But I can also say that the FR2 isn't as simpleas the FR3, I mean look at the webbing-like design/overlay, it is like an abstract art that gets your attention. It is even more obvious and less simple once that webbing design is a different color from the inner mesh, it stands out even further. Even when the two are of the same color, the webbing/overlay is still very noticeable. To me, simple mean less distraction from the shoe, it looks more solid like it is one solid piece.

Personal preference but I like the lower sole of the FR3 but you also have the option of making it thicker by matching the sole color to the midsole rim, an option that isn't available on the FR2.

I agree though, the FR3 has it's flaws, it isn't perfect. That window that shows the dynamic lacing system can be distracting but once worn, it really isn't as noticeable.

Just for comparison of the FR2 and FR3 in both black uppers with white sole and you can see that the FR2 does stand out more because of it's busier design, it just has more lines that doesn't follow a single route and that is what makes the shoe good-looking but it makes it less simple in comparison. The FR3 does have a bigger reflective swoosh but it's Nike, really not much we can do about that and that is just part of the shoe. Lower profile sole makes it less "in your face" too it that makes sense?

I really do love both for different reasons and would put them right about the same level. Now the FR4 looks like a huge step down from the pics so far.

Yup! February needs to be here already! I can't wait to give Nike my funds for the L1s haha

What I disliked about the FR3 was the tongue, the reflective swooshes, the contrasting DF piece and the filmsy sockliner. I only ended up with three pairs. Contrastingly, with the FR2s, I went OD with about 15 pairs. :smh::wow::lol:

Enter the 4, I like how it has elements of all FRs encorporated, but I don't see myself owning more than 2-3 pairs. Unless, the iD options impress me. :nerd: The only cw I like of the catalog pics is the Black/White.

If they made the Dynamic FW concealed like the FK Trainer, I think it'd be a different story.

Another thing. FRs are usually released in Spring, so the Fall launch is a bit surprising.

looks like the midsole is somewhat if not the same as the one on the fr3.

How different is the fr2 midsole btw? In terms of more barefoot feel, fr2 vs fr3? Or are they the same?

thanks,

I'm disappointed in the FR4's, i guess I was expecting that flyknit mesh

sample pic I found on the bay, hopefully the shoe grows on me when it releases.

so far for me in terms of looks FR2 >>FR3. in terms of fit and performance FR3>FR2

the FR4 seems to have the same midsole/bottom sole as the FR3 so I'm expecting them to perform the same as the FR3's or better.

I never really liked FR3s but i do love my FR2s. I think this is a great looking shoe personally. As long as they keep it light weight im in for one (love the orange cw and the volt cw). Will be excited to see the 3.0 iteration and the 4.0 iteration as well.

FR2>FR4>FR3

ugh, i HATE those "new" exposed Flywire nylon cables on the sides (on the Hyperdunks, Lunar TR1, etc). I'm worried, they'll get cut or caught on something . . .
