the simple fact that people will be interested and curious in it will make it sell alone. Nintendo is def gonna come back with this system. If they come out with some type of Pokémon game too along with Zelda and Mario at launch or sometime around it then it's a wrap. They are doing big big numbers

Yeah Galaxy wasn't a launch title but super paper Mario was and that game is AMAZING.

As far as the sales go, a Mario or Zelda or both being launch titles will solidify the Switch's success early. Those franchises transcend past hard core gaming. Everybody who's ever had an interest in video games at some point and time will play the new Mario/Zelda just because of the hype. Combine that with a new system it's a wrap. And then of course, the system will be impossible to get your hands on within the first month or 2 making people even more antsy to play

I don't get how this can be a "gimmick". You could argue motion controls were a gimmick, but this is simply making a device playable on your TV or on the screen itself. Not a big deal like people are ranting about all over the internet. They finally release a console with a proper controller but still people moan and write it off. To each their own...

Just like with previous Nintendo consoles, this should compliment and sit alongside the other consoles very well. Xbone/PS4 for your big generic third party games, and Switch for the exclusive Nintendo games. Anybody who wants to buy this and expect Battlefield 1/Call of Duty/Dark Souls quality games will be disappointed.

The big thing about this is it combines two platforms into one. Nintendo have always dominated handhelds, and this will most likely replace both the Wii U and 3DS in one go. 3DS has a huge library of first and third party games, so if they can translate that same level of production and consistency for the Switch, that'd be great.

Nintendo desperately needs to release more exclusive games on a more consistent basis from their usual IPs like Mario, Zelda, Mario Kart, Pokemon, Pikmin, Splatoon, and Metroid, and get other devs on board to release Monster Hunter, Bayonetta, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy-type games.

This looks to make local multiplayer a thing again which is really cool. They've recognised people are doing more things on the go and are trying to fill that part of the market. Cellphone games are mostly too simple and casual to compare to dedicated games, and touch screen controls are horrible.

Release a Pokemon game in HD and this thing will sell like hotcakes.

PS. I loved Super Mario Galaxy. It was my favourite game from that generation (tied with GTAV). Pure innovation and fun that brought back memories of Super Mario 64. I hope that Mario game shown in the Switch unveil is similar to SM64.

I prefer Galaxy 1 because it was fresh and came out of nowhere. Galaxy 2 was better (that bee suit was hella fun) but 1 was a completely new gaming experience. 2 improved on it.

I think weere getting ahead of oursleves...

Unless i missed something.... at no point did they say you would be able to play 3ds games on this..

I'll be picking one up, mainly for my wife, who kicked and screamed for a Wii, then proceeded to do the same for a Wii U and I stalled her because I told her to wait for the reveal of this system.
I can honestly say I'm pleased with the showing and result. Portability and the fact that it seems the past games from Wii U as well as new games will be available, coupled with 3rd party games finally entering the fray def makes it worth it. Really just waiting on the price now, and hoping it doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Wii launched with Zelda.

Wii version of Twilight Princess sold 5.8 million copies lifetime so that alone wasn't enough to move units.

Having Breath of the Wild at launch will help draw in the hardcore gamers and ex-fanboys who passed on the wii-u but it's gonna need a little more push.

Having a Mario Kart at launch would be perfect imo, it has the best mix of casual/hardcore draw.

As demonstrated by Pokemon go, Pokemon is the, the, game that can draw damn near everyone and their mother.
Make this happen Nintendo, rerelease sun and Moon on this thing in March.
So what if you piss off everyone that just bought it in November for the 3ds.

Mario Kart 8 is the best game in the Wii U and I feel like enough people didn't play it. The port to the switch will have people late as hell as to how special that game is

This. Plus it looks to be more than a just a port now that you can have 2 items. That alone can change the gameplay up.

I look forward to catching even more bodies in this thread

(Especially salty *** Nawtyhare; I know u lurking, famb)

If I'm Nintendo and assuming that Splatoon and MK8 are being ported, I'd include one or the other with every launch Switch. Right out the gate you give people something to play in the living room with their friends and families.

Mario Kart 8 is so dope. I still play it to this day, and it's the best local multiplayer experience on any console. 4 player grand prix is pure mayhem and guaranteed fun. I just wish it had the double items that all previous MK's had, where you could set and hold your current item behind your cart, and have another item waiting to be used.

Kart and Smash Bros are the two key games that can draw in larger demographic of ppl to buy the console, I agree with what you said about MK.

The Wii-U messed up big time not including either one of those games at their launch, which is why we're here today talking about how much it failed.

Hell, the trailer alone showed that the Switch is literally perfect for Mario Kart

MK sells better than Smash tho. At least I thought so. Either way, hopefully Nintendo will start dropping more info sooner rather than later.

Nintendo dropping the Switch during tax season is a pretty good strategy, if you think about it.

MK is a classic, so I can see your point there.

But Smash has grown a big following with modern day gamers, dating back to the N64 days (MK64 was still the more popular game at the time, once again).

And the fact that most recent Smash game had a crap ton of classic video game characters added on to the game roster, it gained more interest from the ol' skool and hardcore gamer crowds.

Need to see FIFA and an elders scrolls before I'm sold

No trash *** Nintendo cell shaded graphics

What I was thinking about is, since the controller becomes a tablet, Nintendo could also have mobile games on it. they're dipping their toes in the market with Mario, Fire Emblem, and Animal Crossing.

Why not have some popular mobile games playable on the switch, you might not be able to play games online while on the go but you could do so at home or wherever there's WiFi.

If you wanna take a break from console gaming for a bit and play some quick pick up and play games, you can, that gives the system a whole other wave of content to satisfy people and satisfy the casual market too.

I would take this thing with me on the go.......I am still one the few that likes handheld gaming. I wish the vita was a little more successful since it had the graphics for a handheld device. the games were just bad...........
