Now that Vince Young’s financial struggles have been publicized, the stories about the quarterback’s out-of-control spending are emerging.

The Associated Press reported on Tuesday that Young is suing former business advisers and blaming them for his financial problems. He apparently has very little money left despite earning $26 million guaranteed from his playing career, and reportedly around $30 million in endorsement deals. Even though it looks like Young spent around $60 million, that figure is pre-taxes, so we’re probably looking at an amount of $35 million that he spent — still an absurd figure.

Regarding the "Melon Ball" drink that VY favored:

He always picked up the check. And he wanted to be treated like a king, asking for a drink that nobody else was allowed to have. The sneaky bartender gave him a common drink for female patrons, the “Melon Ball,” consisting of Midori, pineapple juice and Malibu. Vince was fooled.

I can't make fun of someone that has money troubles. That's just me. With as fragile as he is mentally, those people he was splurging on should be checking in on him to make sure he doesn't do something stupid.

I was definitely expecting a cynical/condescending response from you.


Unfortunately the people he was splurging on were probably only around for the ride and were there because of the money. True loyal friends would be checking on him and holding him down, but I doubt he has a lot of those left in his circle.

A few years back when he quit on his team, folks thought he was gonna off himself. He's not right upstairs.

Sad to say, but he just looks dumb.

Why would you? There's a time for fun and games and then there's real life. As someone who's going through hardship and having people I know go/gone through it, money issues is not a laughing matter. And you're right, the free loaders definitely aren't around now that the money has dried up. Hopefully his real friends and loyal family members are by his side through this.

In regards to VY, I find SOME of the circumstances of why he went broke funny. The exorbitant spending at TGI Friday's, the southwest flight, etc etc....that's comical and flat out dumb. Where is the common-sense?

Being able to empathize and understand what someone is going through is a great quality to have. That's why when I see most condescending/pompous/judgemental NTers on here ripping fellow members who make poor choices or find themselves in struggling situations....it's comical because you never know when you yourself will go through some trying times and it's not cool to look down upon folks who are struggling regardless of how they go to where they were.


I hope you are able to persevere through these hardships and if you keep your focus/determination/faith in whatever you believe in (even in yourself) you will grow and emerge an even better person.

It would be a little different if he had blown through the money on terrible investments (isn't his steakhouse - one of the few things he seems to have actually invested in - actually doing well?) or gotten screwed over by shady business partners while trying to invest in something.

I always get a kick out of this pic, cause Kasey Studdard and (I think) Aaron Ross were at this same club. If you've seen some of the other photos, it was nothing but a sausage fest. There's like 2 females in the entire club, but VY, Kasey, and some other mostly shirtless dudes dancing in a circles around each other :lol:

According to people who served Young and other Titans at restaurants, or interacted with him in other ways, the former Tennessee quarterback would spend thousand of dollars at restaurants like T.G.I. Friday’s or Cheesecake Factory.

One person who claimed he used to work at Cheesecake Factory says that Young and the Titans came into the restaurant after every game during the 2006 season. He says the players would order a few items from each page of the menu, and that they would drink a bunch of alcohol. He said the bill would be at least $4,000 each time, and that Young always paid the check.

Another favorite spot for Young and his teammates was T.G.I. Friday’s in Nashville. Young used to hang out there and liked having the bartenders make him a specific drink — a melon ball. The person who shared the story says Young once had a bill of around $6,000 at the restaurant.

Perhaps the story that tops them all comes from a woman who was on a flight from Nashville to Houston in 2007 that Vince Young supposedly bought out. The woman says she was flying home as a freshman in college and that there was hardly anyone there when she arrived at the gate. When she got on the plane, she says there was one person up front — Vince Young — and about only 10 other people on the flight. This woman was told by a flight attendant that Young had bought out the rest of the seats — about 120 tickets — presumably so he could have nearly a private flight. The woman who shared the story says Young also paid someone $200 to carry his luggage. If you figure the tickets cost $100 each, that would be around $12,000 to buy out the flight.

Let's actually feel bad for a man who made tens of millions of dollars and lost it in the manner he did.

My thoughts and prayers are with Vince Young and his family, I'll donate to his children's college fund (which he probably flushed down the toilet buying his 120 friends unlimited amounts of Melon Balls and Bloomin-Onions)

$35+ million? Buying 120 seats on a plane, $6k at TGIF, $5k/week at Cheesecake Factory, etc? If any of that's true, which I wouldn't be surprised about, that's on him.

I'm sorry, if it was purely that he'd gotten ripped off, I'd most definitely feel bad for him but that kind of money in 5 or 6 years? Pure stupidity.
 
I'd like to know if there was anyone around Vince at the time who tried to help/talk to him about this reckless spending or was he just surrounded by people taking advantage of him and his money.
