2012 Secret Santa Thread: Master lists posted PG1

Funny thing is last year my deadbeat hit me up with a nice apologetic PM, told me the gift was out some days after Xmas...I'm still waiting on such gift

Steezy, you're going a little bit too hard.

It is our nature as human beings to wait until the last minute. For everything. Whether it be to hit the snooze on our alarm in the morning, cram for finals, make that reservation on the last possible day, or sleep on the new shoe release. It's what we do.

It should come as no surprise that some of us would wait until the last minute to send our gifts out. I put it off because I really did put in work trying to figure out what my elf wanted. We got our assignments Thanksgiving, which only left three weeks to shop around for a gift. I work late nights and sleep during the day so that three weeks shrank to a mere week for me. That's why I sent out late.

As long as my elf receives his gift before new year and he is happy with it, my job is done. We put so many constraints on having it by Christmas that we fall into the consumerism side of it instead of the gift-giving side of it. I'd much rather get my elf the right gift instead of hastily rush something out to meet a deadline so they can have it by a certain day. If it matters, I sent out last week but it was just more feasible to select the more cost-effective shipping option, which delayed the package by a few days.

And Cinco has been great organizing all of this, so no the onus does not fall on him at all. Basically perceived time does not equal real time in this instance. But more importantly, the holiday shouldn't have to end at the stroke of the 26th. That's what I think you're losing sight of in this whole thing.

Idea for next year: send your gifts out so they arrive before Christmas, not valentines day.

Speak for yourself, I also work nights...however nowadays we have tooooo many options to say we couldn't find the right gift, or my schedule is too hectic....I can go on Etsy.com and have someone customize a gift for my elf from my computer chair and in less than a week, I did that last year, you can do online shopping from work in the middle of the night from your smart phone, etc etc.

I'm not going hard at all, I'm being extremely honest and blunt and if you are offended then be it....know that your responsability when you willingly signed up for this was to get your elf a gift by Xmas, not New Years or valentines day, you fail to do that, you failed your elf, period, you had way to many options to come in here and tell me "well is in my nature to be late" that had to be the most "DEAL WITH IT, ELF" reason ive heard on here...least you are honest.

That's not a real excuse.

Three weeks is ample time.

As long as my elf receives his gift before new year

Santa doesn't give out gifts after Christmas.

it was just more feasible to select the more cost-effective shipping option

Fair, but you should have factored this time into having your elf receive the gift before xmas.

The point of this is for your elf to have a gift by xmas; there's no way around it. The terms of SS in the questionnaire specifically states, "You will mail them the gift before December 10 in order to ensure it arrives." If you can't abide, don't send in your questionnaire and don't participate.

It's really s__tty for anyone to leave their elf hanging when that elf is hoping to see a package to arrive and it never comes. What if this elf is away from friends and family and that's the only gift they're expecting to receive?

Letting this affect you that much makes you the real grinch. Forgetting what this time of the year is all about. |I

So I'm the bad guy?

C'mon dude. There's no way you can argue your way out of this.

Forgetting what this time of the year is all about.

Right. So making your elf regret participating in what's supposed to be a fun event is "what this time of the year is all about."

That's the same bulls** excuse that keeps getting thrown around.

Understand NOONE is actually affected, is the idea that a bunch of dudes who don't really know each other, trust this empty sense of community blindly and join on this game to send a complete stranger a gift and get one in return, some abide by the requirements, do their work and make sure their elf is taken care of by the date of XMAS...for God's sake we had an elf receive his gift from Hawaii and I believe some that even had to clear customs, yet you have others who live in the same damb state as their elf and still wait till 2 days after Xmas to ship, it's a joke and its wrong, instead of coming up with bull**** excuses and reasons to why you believe you did nothing wrong, OWN UP TO IT, say you effed up and do the rest of the board a favor and blacklist yourself from participating next year, since obviously this is a time sensitive event and it just happens to be in you nature to be late to everything, good luck with life bruh...keep thinking the world moves on your clock.

tbh.. those who are taking advantage of this and not giving on their end... thats fine with me... if u really need free handouts over a forum im glad to send you something knowing that its worth so much more to you.

not even mad i may have a deadbeat this year.. it is what it is (or maybe ill get it next year lmao..karma!!)

I wasn't part of this as exchange, but did you guys put a post minimum so newbies don't just come in and snag presents? Maybe you should a minimum post count for next year exchange.

No there wasnt...Thinking that next yr it will be by join date maybe or something along those lines...I like knowing who I have as an Elf (as in I see them post etc).

Na fam, it should stay with the setup we have now with 2 list. One with people new to SS and the returning list with those who sent out a gift.

700

Hope you enjoy it.

Th bag is just what I needed! And my first cowboys jersey you are awesome thank you so much

I was going to get you a Romo but I don't know to many cowboy fans that like him. Also forgot to get you some hand wraps, does the jersey fit?

This is my second Christmas on NT and I haven't done Secret Santa either year. However, I'd be happy to buy for someone who got a deadbeat once the list comes out if Cinco would like to assign me someone.

we should get a list of who got a db and we should exchange within ourselves. just plain sucks. you go out and do it in good faith and you end up getting screwed, just plain wrong.

Thanks once again!

I was very careful like you said and still almost discarded the groupon paper.

Dont own any physical copies of BB and never been to the High Five so I'm very Grateful. Thanks again dmxgod
