They have been doing this since the Bobcat and Venom 10's.

Bobcat 10's were pictured with a checkerboard sock liner in the pics, released solid orange.

Venom 10's were pictured with a grey and green sole, released with clear blue and green I think

I'm sure it's happened before as you pointed out but it's unclear whether it's a change in design or done to deter Fugazi pairs

The melo's are sitting at DTLR where I live.  Probably will resell better maybe a couple years from now.  Not sure how I feel about that carbon fiber material around the ankle, it makes it look like one of those GS releases.
