Anybody got any rare little known facts dealing with Nike and Nike's history would be greatly appreciated.Something like the first foam samples were made with Scottie pippen in mind, but he was coming off of foot issues and wanted max cushioning instead of zoom. Now I know that example is pretty well known but if you have some rare info please with the share with me and the rest of the NT fam.peace

wait. wasnt it the other way around? he hated the max air so nike made him zoom air versions of the pippen 1 and pippen 4?

also something about nike forcing the max air in the pippen 1 so they could justify the price?

im just speculating but im sure someone in the know here can answer this...

I'm not sure on the details, but this almost a perfect example of why I made this post.I'm sure somebody knows the full story.Drop some knowledge.

The Foamposite One was offered to Pippen first.  He turned it down because he wanted his own signature shoe.  I've held the size 16 neon red samples in my hand (my size) - they had the Pippen "P" on the heel instead of Penny's one cent symbol.  That was the only player exclusive I really wanted that I could not get.  It was one of one and sports marketing kept it for the archives.

Pippen had been playing in the AJ XII on court and preferred Zoom Air, but the Pippen Max was too far along in the production process to change the cushioning set-up.

It's not exactly a little known fact, but this is a little known story direct from NIKE sports marketing:  when Pippen and Barkley were both playing for the Rockets, Jordan was considering joining the team if Rodman would, too.  I like all of those guys but it would have been a like a seniors tour exhibition.

damn that last bit is crazy. that team would have had dream, barkley, pippen, jordan, and rodman?

Longstroke=thirsty, that rockets team would've been crazy.I remember somebody on hear talking about Jordan brand had a signature shoe for iverson called the bubba chuck, but we all know how that turned out.The first Nike outlet was started because K mart was selling what we would call B grades and Phil Knight wasn't having that.Is that really true about the sweatshop?

I like the one where Shaq showed up to meet Phil Knight in order to discuss a Nike deal, dressed in Reebok from head to toe.

I got your thirsty right here, buddy.

This is not something hidden but it always amazes me to think that the Oregon student that created the swoosh was compensated $35 for the design at the time and was later given stock options, which is the real bread and butter.

Does anybody know what Nike did to Longstroke?I got some advice for you, start adidastalk and spew all the Nike hate you have inside of you.I mean obviously you have a strong passion for the 3 stripes, but why so much hate for Nike,on NIKEtalk? This kinda reminds me of the Clayton Bigsby sketch. But yeah I don't want any E-beef with you dude.(hehe E-beef)I just want some obscure Nike facts is that so wrong.peace

Lol, I will say that while I disagree with most of the points LONGSTROKE brings up, he does occasionally bring some valid arguments to the table. You can tell he's not a Nike fan in the least bit, but there are times where he brings up some good points. And maybe it's his tone in some of the arguments he enters, but the message of overall decline in Nike quality is understood. The part where he loses me is when he says other brand's are making far more superior products. IF anything, they are almost the same quality, no way would I say a new Adidas or Reebok shoe is better than that of a Nike shoe.

So while it is easy to hate on LONG, and I certainly have done my fair share of that, the idea that people are blindly buying Nike products when the quality has become inferior to those of Nike products in the past and yet, the price steadily increases, is something that makes no sense and hurts all consumers of Nike products as a whole.

Take for example today, the $270 LeBron X+ sold out in a matter of minutes for the Olympic CW. Nike is looking at this and probably already planning a price point for the XI at near $300, if not more. People say "oh well at least the re-sellers won't be involved when the price is so high for retail." Really?! Because, from what I see, people who were not able to get the X+ this morning are going to turn to re-sellers and have to dish out upwards of $500 if they really want these kicks. Some will say "oh but we've paid that amount before for Jordan's and such." True, but the quality on those OG Jordan's is beyond dope. Try to get things like that on a pair of ball shoes now a days. You won't. It's ridiculous where the market for basketball sneakers is headed.

Sorry, a little off topic, but I thought I'd share.

I have a question for you.

Why all of the intentional misspellings and ill attempts at bad grammar?

Are you afraid of something?

Here's another little known fact about Nike. Even though they've marketed toward a specific demographic for years, they were very slow in regard to hiring people who actually resemble that demographic, especially in regard to their design team.

shooooot... this is a WELL known fact ON Nike's Campus lol.

But I will probably stay out of this thread for fear of another derailment.  Check the ask a Nike Employee thread.  Plenty of good stuff in there.

One I will leave you with that sickens me to this day.

Nike DOES use samples and unused footwear to grind up and make playgrounds and such in certain communities.

HOWEVER... 90% are still ground up that are perfectly UNUSED and should be given to the poor and unfortunate to wear.... not grind up to play on.

I'd rather play on a crappy court with good sneaks than play on a recycled court with no sneaks.

Just my opinion but I did my part and donated about 1200 pairs of mens and womens samples 2 different times to my local churches in DC..

Problem is no one really takes the time to box up the stuff and send it anywhere.. BUT if someone was you'd have access to endless sneaks all around campus.
