An elective war of aggression won't get Trump's poll numbers above 50%.
In the period from 1945 into the early 21st century, it was the norm that wars would increase a President approval ratings. George W. Bush exhausted and finally broke that norm.
In the 2002 midterms, he used sabre rattling to make net gains for the GOP. By 2006, the Iraq War became a political liability and Howard Dean, as DNC chair, turned that into huge Democratic gains in that midterm. A booming economy couldn't even help the GOP (I know that economy would soon burst but at the time, the median voter felt quite affluent and usually that helps the party that controls the White House).
In the Obama years, foreign policy became even more politicized. As a result, Trump should be very careful about applying mid and late 20th century political norms to war and political capital.

Obummer wasn't just an incompetent leader, he was a disaster.
As dear donald clearly communicated to us, he has upgraded our nuclear bombs. In the hands of crazy or incompetent leaders, sure, they cause global warming. But in the hands of dapper don they will cause temperatures around the world to become more temperate. Combined with the increase in coal dust, the climate will become the greatest it has ever been! That's my president.
