***Official Political Discussion Thread***

There's no such thing as "just politics". Politics has a very tangible impact on everyone's lives. The decisions made by those that we vote for can and often do affect those who come after us. The higher the position, the greater the impact. It's not a game, it's not entertainment, it's people's lives.

I don't want Mueller to act on Trump until after NH loses da rent-controlled apartment. Only way he'll understand what you're saying.

its just politics, its not a gang
Not all politics are the same though. My friends consist mostly of right-wingers or right-leaning on our political spectrum. I voted for our main conservative party last time too.
We also have another further-right conservative party where some months ago, several of its key members and the former chairman of the party spoke at a literal neo-nazi convention in Greece. None of them apologized. I would not associate with anyone who supports that kind of garbage. In some cases, the kind of politics they support translates directly into a person's character. People who did not object to those key party members speaking at a neo-nazi convention for example, that says a lot about their character. If an individual supports something like that, it'll generally show in their personality and behavior.

Considering all of Trump's actions, statements, ... at the very least someone who still supports the man at this point explicitly approves of non-stop bigotry or they are unbothered by it. Given his past actions with birtherism, his actions that would disproportionately hurt people of color, his NFL comments, Charlottesville, ... that says a lot about the people who still stand with him as well. I like to treat everyone on a case-by-case basis and at least give them a chance but I do not expect to get along with any Trump supporter at this point.
Would I conversate with a Trump supporter? Sure, but becoming friends? Very unlikely.

I got dudes that voted for him, that I've known for years, hitting me up on IG like "damn he's killing me" after those tweets

Maybe because he's Puerto Rican himself? The day the wind stops blowing will be the day Trump starts attacking the rent control laws...COUNT IT.
 I got a pr mans that's a Trump supporter. I gotta reactivate my FB.

Has anyone in this discussion ever changed anyone else's mind? It seems that this discussion, at least since I have been it, has been completely partisan. The same people who have been liberal for years are still that way... and the same conservatives are conservative. I can pretty much guess what each side will say whenever an article is posted.

First off let's just point out the fact you are a fast food worker who tried to lie about being a lawyer. Sad.

Second. what new ideas are coming from the right leaning political parties. Lower taxes. Support the military. Stronger law enforcement. Is there anything other than this that those on the left are ignoring

I've always been open to people with other political beliefs but I reached the point where I will not associate with anyone who is a Trump supporter. If they support Trump, they don't share the same values as me and I don't want anything to do with them.

WELL SAID COMRADE EXCEPT I FEEL THE SAME WAY ABOUT LIBBIES, CROOKED H SUPPORTERS and Communist Sanders.

Nah. Ninja, Trump has gone past politics and into promoting racism and hate crimes

*scratches head*

this isn't da case, problem is when he denounces or disavows da left looks at him wit jaundice.

folks is just dug in, thankfully da online vitro basically stays online, and what i experience, civil conversations can still be had face to face.

Nah. Ninja, Trump has gone past politics and into promoting racism and hate crimes and trying to divide the country at every twist and turn.

He is an awful human being, and anyone who supports him is awful too.

Bush was just a dummy and ignorant but I never thought of him as a terrible person. McCain was a guy with integrity that went off into the deep end running his campaign. Romney was just a rich guy that wanted to be President.

Trump is just an evil person and anyone that supports him is evil too.
Yeah. I'm not going to associate with people who were excusing away his ignorance, racism, sexism during the campaign because they feel slightly bad now.

Trump not only doesn't denounce racism properly, he promotes it.

He has destroyed nearly all the civil rights departments in the Federal government.

One of the few and most important firewalls minorities depend on to get some kind of justice in this country.

This is why all those clowns in Charlottesville love him, why David Duke bigs him up, why every bigot pundit defends him constantly.

Trump is furthering the cause of white supremacy. Only the blind, stupid, ignorant or bigoted deny it.

This alone should be enough, that open white supremacists LOVE this man but minority idiots still refuse to see it.

Wrong. "Both sides" is not denouncing, it's courting white supremacists and Nazis

Trump can't bring himself to disavow the David Dukes of the world because that's who he is, and the only thing he cares about more than his WS beliefs is his popularity. So when the lack of condemnation of neo nazis results in popular backlash from MOST sides of the political spectrum, Trump forces himself to "condemn" his buddies to safeguard his poll numbers. It's not that complicated.

Watch how he retracts or corrects most of what he said about PR and the mayor of San Juan. Trump is that transparent.
