***Official Political Discussion Thread***

This decision for US citizens to be able to sue foreign states is going to ultimately lead to massive crazy *** travel restrictions all around the world.

If you're sued by a foreign country (in the future once everyone adopts this policy) by someone you have zero personal relationship with, and their government agrees you're guilty, you will likely never be able to travel there again. This will happen all over. Larger world incarceration. Not good.

Famb I haven't really looked into this, but I would think people would still have to win lawsuits before this becomes a problem.

So I'm not ready to worry about the slippery slope just yet.

ninja, a couple pages back you posted an equalizer. do you know how it works? like the circuits involved, the signal processing and mathematics behind it, the different strategies for filtering, etc.? or would you just be able to explain it the way i would explain it to a five-year-old about making bass or treble louder?

and you realize that, while the simple explanation may give some understanding of the system, it would be a joke for anyone to think that it means you actually understand what's going on.

you can explain some basics politics with simple analogies but it's a joke to think that things are that simple. that's just laziness.

same way i know gas makes a car go and how to play with a clutch and so on but I'm not going to act like i understand the inner workings enough to solve car problems.

when it comes to da economy?, it is that simple.

debt gotta get cut, spending has to be controlled.

taxes has to be simplified, and wasteful sections of our government have to be done away with.

What government programs need to be cut?

social security needs reform

medicaid needs reform

medicare needs reform

da military needs to be pulled

da whole government needs to be audited by a non partisan private sector arbiter so it can be purged of redundancy and inefficiency.

and that debt gotta be paid down.

How about the Medicare and Medicaid all the old Republican's are out there benefitting from? Cut their social security while we are at it

-Medicaid is for poor and lower class people. Cutting it will disproportionately hurt the poor and minorities. And the GOP is in favor of rolling back Medicaid. Sooo I don't get why you mention this

-And tons of people, poor, white, black, liberal, benefit from Medicare and Social Security. If you Social Security cut it stupidly it will hurt a lot of people, maybe if we did explore that option it should be increasing the age people can join or reducing the cost of living adjustment. I'm personally weakly against both right now.

But yes, something has to be done in this area sooner or later.

-Medicare should be expanded and allowed for people to buy into. Its infrastructure can serve as a great public option that would help a ton in the middle class.

For the record, I'm not for cutting any of the three programs I mentioned. I just find it hilarious that poor white people will talk about being fiscally conservative, yet are huge beneficiaries of govt programs like Medicaid.

The 2016 Social Security Trustees report showed a continuation of the current trend toward insolvency of both of its trust funds. The Trustees estimate that Social Security's combined retirement and disability trust funds will become exhausted in 2034, the same as reported last year. Regrettably, the lack of change in the combined trust funds' insolvency dates has lulled some into a false sense that the program's finances are now stable. Please don't be fooled.

While the trust funds depletion date is unchanged, this simply means that Social Security's day of financial reckoning is now one year closer — and less than 20 years away. Social Security faces severe, urgent financial challenges that policymakers must soon address if we are to ensure the program remains viable for the most vulnerable in our society

I feel you famb

it is frustrating to see such a large group of people that continuously vote against their self interest, and then be hypocrites bout it when they finally do accept the aid that they need.

Ever notice how the GOP never publicly complains about disability payments. It is because they can't use to racist dog whistles like they can with other programs. The face of disability is white, and the whole nation knows it.

Government programs such as Medicaid and the like may not necessarily be around going forward to provide assistance,” said Money Crashers finance expert David Bakke.

Bakke told Healthline that Medicaid is projected to run out of money in the year 2030, or perhaps as early as 2026

We could just uncap the payroll tax limit?

Stop acting like there is only one solution. Especially since the wealth transfer system you benefit from is not up on the chopping block.

The Medicare trust fund will be insolvent by 2028, according to the 2016 Medicare trustees' report released Wednesday.

The prediction is a departure from the 2030 date the Obama administration outlined in the previous two reports. The estimate is still later than the timeline released by the Congressional Budget Office in January, which estimated the program would be solvent only until 2026.
