***Official Political Discussion Thread***

I am curious how big of an issue Bernie being jewish would have played in the election, cause I assume we all know that would have came up

I'm just saying Black People came out and voted and they still lost. Trump won the white men and WOMEN cote.

You can't blame black people if they turn from the democratic party after this.
The Dems had their own alternative to Trumps Populist/anti-establishment wave yet they chose to completely suppress it along with ignoring it . This was never gonna be a normal cycle where "normal" tactics and politics would work again with this electorate, that was made clear by Trumps rise. There needed to be another populist against him over the embodiment of what most folks in the country despise about politicians. That could've saved them some of the voters and independents from swing states they lost along with the traditionally blue states that were also lost.
Exactly.  A large diverse populist was pulling for Bernie Saunders and Clinton supporters were saying him and his supporters were exercising white privilege.

Now there is a white supremacist as president.

The platform could've been as left as possible yet the folks that couldn't see themselves getting behind someone they don't like still weren't gonna vote for her, don't know why that's hard to understand for some.

Still can't believe the deciciveness of the outcome...

Along with the massacre in the Congressional races as well :x :x :x

The left is gonna have to retool and remobilize to organize a solid opposition for 2018

Not True at all. White America came out in record numbers. There were more white women supporting Trump than Hillary for crying out loud.

I got this as reason number 1..

then you had low voter turn out plus Hillary just being a bad candidate

Her being a bad candidate correlates with the decreased voter turnout. The Dems fumbled the election more than 3rd party voters did imo. It's on them to present folks with a candidate to get excited about and believe in instead of holding their hands and presenting/telling them with someone the party thinks is best for them

Um, yeah, I'm not hopeful

Lizzy Warren might legit lose her seat. Especially if Weld runs, and the Trump base shows up to pay her back.

You think there's a chance of that happening? The Dems might be in even way worse shape than I thought if so :x

The party is definitely fragmented right now and is not gonna unite anytime soon. They need to spend the next little bit of time trying to find some common ground and trying to genuinely learn from all the mistakes they made this time around so as to never repeat them in fear of an outcome like this again.

The Dems have to defend way more seats next midterm than the GOP.

A super majority is not out of the question if the democratic base doesn't wake up.

The last time the Dems tried to go left, white america rebuked them because of cultural conservatism .

Sound familiar.

Unless the base rallies around the DNC, things will get worst.

BERNIE WAS THE LESS POPULAR CANDIDATE.

I don't know why that is hard to understand. You still would have had to go to minorities are tell them, the choice they wanted, wasn't getting nominated

Like think this through, how the hell could the DNC pull off getting Bernie nominated? They would have still have to convince their base to fall in line behind Bernie.

No I'm asking when those two start talking about how much worst things are for black people, and how both sides are the same, what will be their excuse when a policy change hurts the community.

I bet a whole lotta "black people need to wake up mannnnnnnnn"

Whats the point in bring in up Tariq or Umar? Cuz they disagree with YOUR method? Your girl Hilary just got embarrassed by a buffoon. Accept it, don't take your frustration out on them. AmerKKKa is showing how they feel. She lost to a reality TV, rich, racist fool. Again, she was a weak candidate. The best thing she had going was people was scared to have Trump be in and even that couldn't save her.

Whats wrong with waking up? It's better than living in a fake progressive fantasy land.

Clinton base was the diverse one, not Sanders. That's the rub

I am talking about the low turnout. The vast majority black people that voted, obvious made the right choice

Come on Obama... talking about transition and unity... We are Americans first bull crap. Just last week he was talking about Trump unfit to have nuclear codes and today he's basically gift wrapping it for Trump with all this unity talk.

:rolleyes

Wish the media would stop scapegoating rural whites when they voted for obama because they could relate to his grandparents upbringing in kansas.

I'm out here in the burbs in a blue state and the amount of trump/pence bumper stickers and signs on lawns is outstanding

Its coming to an end, b :smh:

All them Hillary supporters telling people to get over Bernie losing and all that hogwash are drinking their tears. Gary Johnson was solid in every state, Even McMullin beat Hillary in Utah or came close to it. The DNC thought that people would get in line and it'd be business as usual, but didn't expect the turnout to be so grand against her. Latinos and Hispanics voted against her in huge numbers.

Maybe within these next 4 years, the Dems will actually listen to the people they want voting for them instead of saying "trust us, we know what's good for you"

You know what I don't understand with this argument? The fact that Hillary still got 3 million more votes than Bernie (btw I favored Bernie). Was that fake? Was that manipulated?

On top of that, we all knew that a lot of the things gained under Obama were under threat with a conservative leadership. Y'all played petty politics instead of focusing on the outcome and look at where we are now. Hope you enjoy.

Well, the numbers were always presented as if Bernie never stood a chance when if the votes were to lean towards his favor, the super delegates could've swayed his way to show party unity but they kept pushing Hillary having a crazy amount of delegates vs Bernie.

Best thing the DNC could've done was get Bernie to be the VP, that would've unified the party and all the independents who were on the fence. People like Bernie, and the push against him made people want to cut off their noses to spite their face, and now we have Trump as president. So you can blame those that played petty politics but the DNC started by trying to force feed us Clinton instead of letting us make our own decision.

Looks like he's weary of stoking/fanning the flames anymore in the face of a GOP majority in all branches

Honestly, what are you expecting him to say? He was effective in trying to calm people down.
