***Official Political Discussion Thread***

you can't, Castro was a monster who limited basic Tennants of liberty & freedom for his own justification of self aggrandizement.

Famb, no

A oppressive murderous dictator like Castro doesn't get let off the hook just because of "the white man". Decades upon decades he jailed, murdered, and tortured people for just disagreeing with him, for wanting to leave the damb island, or for being gay. White, black, brown, everyone

He let his people suffer in economic despair, and hunger, while he got fat and rich of their labor.

For everything good Castro did in this world, he did something horrible.

He doesn't get graded on the curve, and even if he did, he still fails.

Castro himself is a hypocrite in so many ways. And he was more than willing to accept the aid of white men from the Soviet Union, racist white men, when it serve him. So he doesn't have any moral high ground to stand on.
lol You are stuck on thinking that I am making him out to br a martyr. Nope. I just like what he did against white privilege.

Maybe you missed it, but tou cannot equate inequality for black people in cuba, to what happened with white cubans, then claim that they are both the victims of the same oppression. Black cubans still had to deal with their white racist counterparts, Castro could not stop that, as it was too deep in that culture. He would have had to kick out each and every white person in Cuba, in order to do that.

Yeah his regime sure said one thing and didn't do squat about it really

What?

If that's what Obama is saying he's an ignorant dumbass *****.
If you are calling me one because I feel that is what he is saying, then I am okay with that. We do not have to agree on everything, and your opinion does not change my own on the issue of Castro.
If that's what you're saying then yeah you are but if Obama actually meant that bull **** I'd mean it even more. Your view on his statement is ridiculous to me.

I am not trying to change your ciew on Castro. That is usually the common defense and stance of the ignorant. You wanna look at him and his legacy through rose colored glasses and ignore the bad **** that puts him on the same damn level as any other crimes against humanity committing dictator or imperialist, go ahead. Castro beat America though, got rid of imperialism, spoke against apartheid and racism, etc. That makes it all okay. We know what it takes for you to turn a blind eye.

Just know those beliefs put you in the same general category of ppl who take up for Sadaam, Assad, Ahmadinejad, white supremacists, Hitler, Pol Pot, Putin, Jong-Un, Jong-Il, Mao Zedong, Stalin, etc.

Any "revolutionary" that ends up becoming a leader that unjustifiably kills and tortures his own ppl aint worth ****. Praising them in a one sided manner is an act of willful ignorance.

But hey I guess a couple million innocent deaths on top of the countless tortured and inhumanely treated of your own ppl is the small price to pay to drive out imperialism, right?

Precisely
I don't see how we can justify Castro's dictatorship
Part of my family escaped Mao Zedong's regime because they knew he limited the freedoms of his own citizens
Yeah he did some "good things" in the name of being anti capitalism, but overall he was an oppressor

Castro definitely hurt people like many authoritarians and dictators. The only props I can give him is that he had an ideal to change his island and he did. It was flawed just the way he ran it later on but his original intent to free them is admirable. That little I can give. But we can't say what he did was great outside of that.

First off, thanks for your passionate response, as it seems as if I hit a nerve. Granted we may not agree on Fidel, who may not have been as perfect as you. Apologies.

"The founding fathers really dropped the ball on slavery."

"Well revolutions are tough. Transitions are sloppy. They were winging it."

"I guess but the guys that ran the country after them didn't do too good either. The treatment of non christian white men of english origin in America historically hasn't been too good."

"Show me a perfect country. I like what they did. England was just as bad. What if they were still running it?"

:rolleyes
Then why are u making Castro seem like he was a decent dude
That is your perception, then your problem to deal with. I like what he did. I'd like to see more non white countries throw the catholic church out, then ridding themselves of white privilege.
You really gonna gloss over the Castro dictatorship?
Dude just kicked only a couple white people and still let the system be in tact for the most part and he imprisoned those that spoke out on his hypocrisy
In NT we speak out against corruption and oppression in general, and for you to say that just because he kicked out a small portion of white Cubans was a justification for creating an oppressed state for him to profit off is what is baffling. That's why a lot of people are offended right now, because you are making excuses for his oppression that we speak out against.

Again, the oppression black people in cuba faced is far different from what white cubans faced. I do not care about what white cubans faced, because they still lived in cuba while being white and a majority. I said it, and I do not care if you don't like it.

And I also don't want to hear the comparisons of Mandela and Castro
Mandela was never a hypocrite like Castro was

You can't dismiss the experiences of those who lived under him and those who escaped his regime for fear of persecution. Revolutions are messy, and more often than not, it doesn't take much more than a finger pointed in your direction to make you a loyalist of the government that is being overthrown and a target of the revolution (which is why in countries like the one I grew up in, people don't discuss politics in public or mixed company; topics such as questioning the president's health have landed many a journalist in prison). This is why I can't agree with overlooking the way he ruled Cuba. I understand where his critics are coming from.

I can dismiss them if they are coming from a perspective of white privilege, oh yes I surely can!

So now it is white privilege to not want to be prosecuted. Gimmie a ******* break famb. That is such a morally bankrupt position to take

Men, women and children, drowned, starved, tortured, imprisoned, forced to work and killed. But they were white so it doesn't matter.

Damn if this is what daddystyle is saying, then he must really really dislike white ppl lol

Daddystyle, do you like Putin? Every person he ***** over is white :nerd:

Funny thing was, they weren't just white people catching deal, Castro was an equal opportunity oppressor.

And when white Soviets where cutting Castro checks, he sure did cape for them.

Da irony, a man that is being commended for fighting against white privileged, ended up being a puppet for rich whites.

What horrible thing to say, you should be ashamed of yourself. You are christian aren't you.

I want white privilege and those who protect and then fight for it to be destroyed. White patriarchal rule is the reason for the imbalance in the world, and I want it eliminated, permanently.

That's why I never got the praise for Castro
Dude was a hypocrite

Castro was the child of Spanish immigrants, grew up upper middle class, and would be considered a white Cuban by most standards.

And he went on to oppress many black Cubans, and condemn many others to a life of economic despair.

So maybe the praise of him as being a solider against white privilege is a tad misguided.
