Even more important, Trump seems to be blithely unaware that the United States is engaged in a serious geopolitical competition with China, and that this rivalry isn’t just about jobs, trade balances, currency values, or the other issues on which he’s fixated. Instead, it is mostly about trying to keep China from establishing a hegemonic position in Asia, from which it could eventually project power around the world and possibly even into the Western hemisphere itself. It’s easier to favor “America First” when no other great power is active near our shores, but that fortunate position may not last if China establishes a position in its neighborhood akin to the one the United States has long enjoyed in its backyard. With its surroundings secured, China could forge alliances around the world and interfere in distant regions — much as the United States has done since World War II — including areas close to U.S. soil. This development would force Americans to worry a whole lot more about defending our territory, something we haven’t had to worry about for more than a century.


Here’s a news flash, Mr. President: The United States is not located in the Western Pacific. As a result, its ability to prevent China from becoming a hegemonic power there requires close cooperation with Asian partners. The United States should not try to shoulder this burden by ourselves, but we sure ain’t gonna do it alone. That is why Trump’s hasty decision to scrap the Trans-Pacific Partnership is so short-sighted. It is even dumber if he plans to pick lots of fights with Beijing on economic issues and the South China Sea while launching bare-knuckle bilateral trade talks with the rest of Asia. Forget about Russia: Thus far, Trump’s nonstrategic behavior toward China makes me wonder if there is a Chinese word for “kompromat.”
 

For those of you who've watched Firefly (great sci-fi show if you don't know what it is) and wondered why everyone knew so much chinese, this is why. 

Because we made a narcissist the most powerful man in the world and he was so stupid he used his newfound power to curtail his own influence thus increasing theirs.

A Secret Service agent is being slammed online after suggesting on Facebook that she would not take a bullet for Donald Trump.

Kerry O’Grady, a special agent in charge at the agency’s Denver office, wrote an “I’m with Her” message to followers in October, according to screenshots taken by the Washington Examiner.

The Secret Service employee says she has worked 23 years for the government, but that she has changed and “would take jail time over a bullet or an endorsement for what I believe to be disaster to this country.”

Her post, which reportedly came shortly after revelations that Trump spoke about grabbing women “by the p---y,”  ended by saying “Hatch Act be damned.”

Conway says she is receiving threats because of the media

The Hatch Act, passed in 1939, restricts the political activities of those in executive branch agencies such as the Secret Service to promote workplace fairness and nonpartisanship.

Secret Service spokesman Joe Casey told the Daily News that the agency is looking into the posts, and that O’Grady works for the agency in Denver.

Conservative social media users began calling for the agent to be fired.

One Massachusetts woman also named Kerry O’Grady posted on Facebook that she had begun receiving hate mail and messages wishing her death after the Examiner story.

Secret Service investigates woman for Trump assassination tweet

The real O’Grady did not immediately return a request for comment from the Daily News.

She told the Examiner, which reported that the October post and other anti-Trump articles she shared prompted at least one formal complaint, that she took down her statement after two or three days of reflecting on it.

The agent said that she reacted emotionally to the Trump "Access Hollywood" tape, but added that she is proud of her mission to protect “the institutions and pillars of our republic established by the very same document that allows my free expression.”

O’Grady said that she does not believe her now-deleted post would impact her job performance, and “devotion to mission and country is only strengthened by the fact that the founders recognize the value of dissent and the freedom to assemble and voice those opposing convictions.”
