Amid the hue and cry over President Trump's travel ban, news of another potential change to American immigration rules has set off a panic attack in India's tech industry.

Major Indian tech shares took a nosedive on Tuesday on reports that Trump is planning to make changes to the H-1B visa program that allows skilled foreigners to work in the U.S.

he U.S. is worth about $65 billion to India's tech industry. Indian media warned of a major setback ahead.
"[It] is a fact that these categories of workers are in short supply in the U.S.," said R Chandrashekhar, president of Nasscom, which represents India's software industry. Restricting H-1B visas would "have implications for both Indian companies and American corporations as well," he told CNNMoney.

Told you this would happen. The tech industry is the only relevant industry in the US, and Trump is trying to destroy it.

Exactly.. dudes who have zero clue are giving opinions on the matter

Im from the bahamas and i went to boarding school and college in the US (so I've had multiple study and travel visas to the US).. when i did my recent travel visa renewal, they requested information from 15-20 years ago.. specific dates

Then you have an interview after submitting the very extensive form plus the requested info

I could only imagine what other countries gotta go through

Hell, i got friends who avoid the headache that goes into actually getting their travel visa just because of what is asked.. since we have the ability to travel on a police report, but you could get screwed in some situations going that route

Excuse my ignorance, never applied for one before.

What you mean travel on a police report ?

Instead of having a travel visa or an updated one.. you get a little slip of paper from our local police stating you have never been convicted of any crimes and have no outstanding warrants

No one is saying the VP has veto power. It's just bs that he has the LGBT community's best interest at heart when his VP is Pence. But you call him ridiculous. Lmao

Hell yea I do. Up until now there was no mention there was no mention of any check or balance to Trump's actions. But now he does something that you all should applaud. And the first thing brought up is Pence. The statement was ridiculous and holds no water.

Van Jones was Bush's AG? Or is this another faux intellectual point?

No he was Green Czar until Obama gave him the boot. And then he became a pundit. Check your history.

There was a dude from Yemen who's a pretty popular fixture on fb because of what he posts. He said that before Trump, 97 percent of people from his country who apply for a visa to enter the US get rejected anyway. To come from his country and acquire a visa is very very hard, and takes a very long time, so most don't even attempt to apply for one.

And yet Trump ran on a platform that our borders were too weak, that we need stronger vetting.

Why didn't Hilary just make it clear how tough the US already was on immigration? His stupid voters just wanted to feel safe.

They wouldn't believe it. These are people who think that stats don't matter. They only react to the shock and awe of pictures of grieving mothers of victims of crime, even though crime is down, and most of them live in homogeneous areas.

Nothing you can do but outvote them. *Shrugs*

Oh interesting.

Seems kinda like something that would leave a couple holes or set you up for a dent  :smh:

But Van Jones made his own bed. From a right wing news source:

And I know you don't like reading articles,

"Jones, who served as an adviser to the White House Council on Environmental Quality, had generated mounting criticism over the past week. He earlier issued back-to-back apologies -- first, for calling Republicans "********" during a videotaped address earlier in the year, and second for signing a petition in 2004 supporting the "9/11 truther" movement, which believes the Bush administration may have been involved in the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.

The latter development, which came on top of several others, was perhaps the most devastating and led to calls for his resignation."

The voters claim that they feel safe if such ban happens. It's really just masquerading their bigotry they feel towards someone of a different ethnicity.

I never got this "US weak on immigration" that's been peddled to the public. Make no mistake, the US is TOUGH on immigration through any President, I doubt there's a more difficult process in the world. To go through that and now be banned? crazy.

I just think neither side really understands it.

That's what confuses me the most. Dudes live out in places like Wyoming and Nebraska and are concerned about Mexicans and Middle Easterners. The hell are Mexicans and Middle Easterners (or any ethnicity for that matter) going to go to those places for? I've seen a handful of Mexicans and black people in Omaha, but they're mostly descendents of people who made the mistake of going up there years ago/were taken there forcefully and are stuck doing low paying service jobs anyway. Felt like I was in the 1950s out there.

Dudes really got zero clue..

When you receive a student visa, they will usually give you an extra year than the allotted time

Had zero issue when i went from high school to college, since i simply was replacing 1 student visa with another

When i was done college and was heading to law school, i had extra time left on my student visa.. so i went to the embassy to cancel it and renew my travel visa.. since i was going to law school in engand

Should note, we get our passports for a period of 10 years

So they marked my now canceled student visa: CANCELED WITHOUT PREJUDICE

Every time i flew through certain places in the US i would get stopped and taken in a back room and had to explain why the visa was canceled.. took at least an hour.. :smh:

Wasnt until i finally got a new passport without the cancled visa within it that the issue stopped

I already stated this in my initial post regarding Van Jones. When you act in a way that effects an administration's end goals you get the boot.

It's even difficult for skilled workers to immigrate here and become permanent residents. I have friends from Indonesia and China that are basically being held hostage by their companies for the promise of green cards, despite being much more intelligent than the average American.

Having a green card and having to go through a separate line every time you travel internationally to spend an extra 1-2 hours.

Go figure...

Inb4 the continued denial of systemic and pervasive WS by the usual suspects
Shockingly relevant

The wild part is I live near a large international air port and never worried about stuff like that

You got huckleberry living South Dakota voting for that stuff :smh:

Former company, had a VP on hold for over a year dealing with process. There was another who couldn't get his family over the same time as him. These are fortune 500 executives.

There's a difference between defending a conspiracy theory vs defending the constitution. Like I said, Van Jones made his own bed. Sally was doing her job.

Man when I went out to South Dakota for work, I was literally the only person with a non pale complexion the entire time I was there. Definitely got weird looks since I can pass for Latino or Middle Eastern  They literally have nothing to fear from minorities; no black, Mexican, or Arab person is going to willingly move up there to work in the corn industry and withstand negative temperatures half the year. I almost kissed the ground when I landed back in California.

I'm still wondering how the US is going to handle the Taiwan/China debacle
I know China is only rattling the sabers for now, but they must be angry that Taiwan has been even bold lately.

Thing is Americans have no idea what it takes to get a visa or green card to come here, especially after 9/11. After scrounging up the money, the fingerprints, pictures, all day lines, vaccines, interviews with federal law enforcement officers for months/years etc. It's not like getting a driver's license or passport here.
This. Don't forget the random phone calls questioning the hell out of you on top of this.

Easier for them to be afraid of people who they never see or have any interactions with.
