So Rand Paul compared the Bern to Stalin,Pol Pot and other mass murderers...no wonder this assclown has become a complete non factor in the race

The fact that Rand Paul was once touted as the savior of the Republican Party does not speak well of either of them. But just to drive the point home that Paul is definitely not suited to play the role of level-headed grown up in the room, the Kentucky libertarian got a little hysterical this week about Bernie Sanders.

Just a tad.

The word “socialist” can do that to right-wing libertarian types—sending them into paroxysms of wild-eyed terror. On a conservative South Carolina radio show, Paul suggested that a Bernie Sanders presidency might set off “mass genocide.” In his view, that’s what happens when you try socialism. Apparently, he has never heard of Scandinavia, where genocide really hasn’t been a thing.
“It amazes me and it actually kind of scares me,” Paul told South Carolina radio host Vince Coakley. “I think it’s not an accident of history that most of the times when socialism has been tried that attendant with that has been mass genocide of people or any of those who object to it. Stalin killed tens of millions of people. Mao killed tens of millions of people. Pol Pot killed tens of millions of people.”

Granted, Paul is not the only Republican who is confused about Sanders’ use of the word socialism, and certainly not the only one using ridiculous rhetoric to scare people to death. Texas state Rep. Jason Villalba,

Villalba compared him to Hitler on Tuesday, later backing off, and going the other way to Stalin.a

So clearly, we can expect a lot more of this nonsense.

Gotta love how these idiots conveniently ignore the word "Democratic" from Democratic Socialist

Yes. There is a need to differentiate, because they are not the same thing.

It's like saying sex with a condom is like sex without a condom. They are both sex (socialism & communism do both have varying degrees of government intervention), but they are not the same. To say they are the same (sex with a condom vs. sex without a condom / communism vs. socialism), would show you don't know what you're talking about.

Soooooo only the ruling class benefits in socialism..... You do know that income inequality is the largest it has been in 80 years right? You also know that when the government was most involved in planning after WWII, was the largest growth of the middle class right? Since 1979, the top 1% has grown 281%, while the bottom 40% has only grown 40% combined.

Corporate Revenue Tax is a third of what it was in the 1950s. And unless you lower it to an obscene amount that this country can't afford, you will not be able to compete. Why? Because you'll never compete with countries that do not follow the same worker laws, environmental laws as we do. Want to have workers for 12 hours a day, pay them a dollar a day, dump toxic waste into the water and pollute the atmosphere with no safe guards. Can't do that here, but there are plenty of places that you can do it. A corporation is looking to maximize profit, and if it suits them to go elsewhere, they will. And no matter what we do, there will always be a more business friendly country.

You know how you get them to keep their business here, If they are a US company, and they relocate overseas, you tax them so much to import their goods back here that they can't even rationalize leaving. Because unless you do that, or don't tax them at all... You will never be the most financially optimal country for a business.

The only thing I'm hearing from you is give to the top, and the rest will prosper. We've done it, it doesn't work. It has been proven that it doesn't work, and anyone with a rational economic mind will laugh at the idea that it works.

You have a very skewed perspective of college. Doing exceptional in high school doesn't guarantee scholarships, nor does it while in college. College tuition increases every year, especially at public universities because they are losing funding, due to a rapidly shrinking tax revenue base, specifically at the top. And get out of here with your ceramics nonsense. There's a litany of worthwhile degrees that people get that enter into a really tough market. I.e. Education.

Labels such as communism and socialism are there to create a different branding. If the net effect is the same (totalitarian government), then it doesn't matter what you call them. Both lead to waste and stall human progress.

The types of "jobs" that we want created in this country are those with a higher value than factory workers, restaurant workers, etc. I think we'd prefer higher wage idea/marketing/finance jobs in this country, which we continue to keep because we ARE competitive. And we want to keep it that way. We have the best talent in the world and the most innovative work force. The US, as is, fosters creativity and breakthroughs. Look at how many of the great medicines of the last several years have been developed here. The same goes for technological innovation.

This isn't about creating cuts for the rich or any of that nonsense. It's fostering a climate that rewards risk takers with the highest upside possible and efficiently allocates capital. The US is the POWERHOUSE of the world economic engine, and there's no reason to change that.

Ultimately, the average life of a person in the US is absolutely incredible compared to 50 years ago. We have the power to access the world's knowledge IN OUR POCKETS!!!!! Multi-billion dollar companies are created by twentysomethings. People can create businesses with relative ease.

A side effect of the technological revolution is the intensification of lollapalooza/winner-takes-all scenarios. No company has ever become as valuable as Facebook with the same velocity. What a time to be alive!

As for education, we certainly need to fix the access of lower income folks to a solid education during their formative years. There are several socioeconomic issues that make solving these problems incredibly difficult. Take Chicago as an example. I don't think anyone really has any clue how to solve a problem that began with racist segregation policies literally 70+ years ago.

Ultimately, college really isn't the problem. If you can't find a job in your major it is probably telling you a few things: 1.) you picked the wrong major or 2.) the demand just isn't there. School administrators have the responsibility, as "non-profits," to provide young adults with a realistic scenario of what the job market actually looks like.

So where would I fall on the political spectrum? I believe:

- Government shouldn't interfere in personal life / bedroom / marriage

- Pro-choice -- people should be free to do what they want and should be held accountable for their actions

- Free markets

- For the most part, people can ascend from their stations in life -- I'm proof of the immigrant story

That's about it. Growing up with nothing and having to fight to make it is my core tenet. Everything else is gravy unless I'm missing something.

Sounds like your views are on point. This is why we need a third political party.

I would probably fall into the social democrat label
Social democracy is a political ideology that supports economic and social interventions to promote social justice within the framework of a capitalist economy, and a policy regime involving welfare state provisions, collective bargaining arrangements, regulation of the economy in the general interest, redistribution of income and wealth, and a commitment to representative democracy.
I'm really wishing that Bernie puts on the boxing gloves in the next debate and mentions FDR in the next debate to defend democratic socialism.

Can't believe the Primary is in 2 weeks, interesting to see who gets the nods w/ the Dems, it's either The Donald or Benny C at this point, no one else is making any real headway. Have there been any talks of VP candidates that any of you heard of?

Chaffee should be next.

Really surprised O'malley didnt get any kind of bump from the debate. I thought he did good.

VP's generally aren't announced until after the nominations are made which is usually sometime around the Olympics since the conventions are right after the Olympics end.

Jumpoff Joey might be throwing in this hat.

And rumor is that motto will be Republicans are our "friends"

After 8 years off slap away every olive branch Obama has extended, race baiting, there push back against the black community, and all their other nonsense

Nah, he can't convince me of that.

Oh ok, I never really paid attention to it like that

Hilary just seems artificial in every way possible man.

SNL hit the nail on the head for me,

"I think you're really going to like the Hilary Clinton me and my team have created.."

So much recorded flip-flopping. A politician in every sense of the word.

If Bern doesn't win im moving to New Zealand.
