Ben Carson admits fabricating West Point scholarship

Ben Carson’s campaign on Friday admitted, in a response to an inquiry from POLITICO, that a central point in his inspirational personal story was fabricated: his application and acceptance into the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

The academy has occupied a central place in Carson’s tale for years. According to a story told in Carson’s book, “Gifted Hands,” the then-17 year old was introduced in 1969 to Gen. William Westmoreland, who had just ended his command of U.S. forces in Vietnam, and the two dined together. That meeting, according to Carson’s telling, was followed by a “full scholarship” to the military academy.

West Point, however, has no record of Carson applying, much less being extended admission.

Look who you guys have running, I wouldn't go there. Conservatives openly pander to the least intellectual demographic of our population.

Not voting for Clinton bdw, at least we have real options.

A socialist and someone who would take any stance if it means getting elected. Great choices.

The U.S. intelligence community has retreated from claims that two emails in Hillary Clinton’s private account contained top secret information, a source familiar with the situation told POLITICO.

The determination came from Director of National Intelligence James Clapper’s office and concluded that the two emails did not include highly classified intelligence secrets. Concerns about the emails' classification helped trigger an on-going FBI inquiry into Clinton's private email set-up.

Intelligence Community Inspector General I. Charles McCullough III made the claim that two of the emails contained top secret information, the State Department publicly stated its disagreement and asked Clapper’s office to referee the dispute. Now, that disagreement has been resolved in State’s favor, said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Intelligence officials claimed one email in Clinton’s account was classified because it contained information from a top secret intelligence community “product” or report, but a further review determined that the report was not issued until several days after the email in question was written, the source said.
"The initial determination was based on a flawed process," the source said. "There was an intelligence product people thought [one of the emails] was based on, but that actually postdated the email in question."

A top expert in classification procedures called the development " an astonishing turn of events."

The New York Knicks are more likely to win the NBA Championship in 2016 than Hillary Clinton getting prosecuted at this point.

You think the intelligence director wants to get fired when she becomes president? Her & Bill ruined their travel director's career just to put the blame on someone else for their own corruption.

Clintons locked up more black men than any other president yet black people praise these mogs. Claim Bill as the first black president because he got some head from a secretary. :smh: my people my people

And how is Hillary guilty for her husband's sins famb?

And the CBC had a major hand in that too, they saved the bill from dying.

A lot of folk in the federal government hands are dirty on that one, including a lot of black people.

Not making excuses, but Hillary, when it comes to politicians, is way down the list of people I blame for that.

Msnbc is clearly in the bag for Hillary. It was cringe worthy to see joy reid brushing off bernie sanders marching with MLK jr. She kept repeating that it isn't relevant. Why wouldn't that matter to a black voter?

I personally think it speaks to his character and ideals. Does it not?

If he was marching in pro segregation demonstrations wouldn't that still be relevent today?

If I were Bernie, I would change my strategy when asked about black voters. I would not even bring up MLK unless the interviewer brings him up. I imagine that black folks are tired of white people, even white liberals, using MLK and black people interchangeably. If a black politician kept mentioning JFK every time a reporter asked about white voters, I would not be offended but I would not be impressed either.

If I were Bernie, my short answer to black voters would be that black issues and economic populism largely overlap and that my record on those issues is far better than that of Hillary Clinton.

My longer answer, time permitting, would be to relentlessly link white supremacy to economic elites (not hard to do, from Slavery, to the Housing Crisis, big and powerful institutions and individuals make lots of money by plundering black labor and bodies) and then link those elites to Hillary Clinton.

If MLK is brought up, I would still downplay being at those demonstrations. I would say that what is important is that my policies are much closer to MLK's values than the policies of Hillary Clinton. I work for poor people and against war, Hillary Clinton does the exact opposite.

Bernie has to go negative, at least on policy. The Clinton machine is supported by moneyed interests which are themselves built on the toil and bones of black people. I would hope that that sort of explanation could get some black folks to at least reconsider their support for Hillary Clinton.

-If he was a segregationist, he won't even have a shot at the presidency, let alone the democratic nomination.

Most white liberals would hate his guts as well.

-Bernie did what was right, and it does speak to character. Good on him. But in all honest, the the only thing white folk that supported civil rights deserve from the black community is not to be hated. Real talk

It is like a man wanting kudos because he is not a wife beater. Welp, good for you I guess

-While I do personally give Bernie credit because he went above and beyond want most did.

It's not like Bernie is out here asking for a cookie. This whole, "but he marched…" is just the media putting their spin on it. Bottom line is Bernie's record in public office > Hilary's. Point. Blank. Period. I think we're all on the same page on that front.

Edit - well said Rex.
