***Official Political Discussion Thread***

Dudes in this thread have been pretty detailed on want we know Trump can do, and what he can't. Just because we criticize a voter for voting against their own interest, doesn't mean it is hypocritical to criticism them for being low information and not knowing the extent of the power the president has.

Sure.

First, focus on the things he is currently DOING.

One of Trump's policies involved cutting taxes... He is actually proposing to do that...

And a lower class person (Trump Voter A) said "yeah, I'm voting for Trump because he's cutting taxes."

The issue is that he is ACTUALLY cutting taxes, but doing it for a DIFFERENT group. We point and laugh at Trump Voter A and say "well, you voted for him. Should've known he was going to screw you. He SAID he was going to do something and he DID IT.. You have to be SMARTER than that, dumb Trump voter."

Focusing on the things he CANT do.

Trump Voter B likes that Trump plans to "bring jobs back" because he's lost his gig on some dwindling industry

Trump Voter B goes to the booth thinking "yeah, I'm going to vote for Trump... He's going to bring back jobs."

Trump can't bring back jobs to Trump Voter B.

What do we say?

"well, you voted for him. Should've known he was going to screw you. He SAID he was going to do something and he DID NOT DO IT. You have to be SMARTER than that, dumb Trump voter."

Its like playing both sides of the coin.

Trump Voter A believed in what Trump was going to do. Trump did it, and voter A got screwed.

Trump Voter B believed in what Trump was going to do. Trump did not do it, and voter B got screwed.

*cue hilarious gifs*

The information was there. From the jump. They chose blind hate, and clinged to innate bigorty and nationalism. EVERY politician talks about job creation. Trump did it in a way that appealed to their irrational fear of others.

Many tried to tell them the effects of Trumps potential policies. They chose to stick their fingers in their ears and wag their tongues. A CLEAR snake oil salesman was in front of their eyes speaking in platitudes with no actual plan.

Now, we sit back and point and laugh.

I'm not ninja. read my edits.
oh ok didn't see the edit but yeah nowhere near 87,000 drug tests were performed.

lets be real...that tweet is false

if they tested 87,000 people of any demographic they damn sure will get more than 1 positive result
The biggest reason is likely the way Arizona determines "reasonable cause." Essentially, the state asks new recipients whether they've used drugs in the past 30 days, and only those who answer yes are tested. With no penalty for lying, a couple of dozen owned up. Of those, several tested negative; the rest failed to take the test.
system is pretty dumb

this thread moves too fast.

you're right, no way are only 1 of 87k people using drugs.

this is one problem with twitter. it was misleading and but enough room to explain it. also i have no idea where the $3.6 million number came from.

and this is the kind of waste and inefficiency trump could go after. nah, he's gonna cut sesame street instead.

-Here is the thing, Dems should not put to much hope in approval ratings when it comes to elections. Maybe you can use to argue what kind of mandate he has, but that is about it.

The people sampled to judge approval rating don't really reflect the likely voter population, especially for a midterm.

The electorate Trump will face in 2020, and the GOP will face in 2018 will still be whiter and more conservative, than the sample used for doing approve ratings.

Also, people can disprove of the job he is doing for many reasons, than doesn't mean they would not vote for him again.

If all registered voters actually voted, the GOP would get massacred up and down the ticket constantly.

-Until you see sustain sub 30s numbers and his popularity among Republicans get much lower, don't celebrate.

Liberals have to dig in their heels and vote. The Tea Party ****** up Obama's **** when dude was in the low 40s, because liberals didn't bother showing up in midterms and special elections.

We need to return the favor to Trump and the entire GOP. Hold the Senate where it is, cut down the House lead, get as many state reps, Governors, and Attorney Generals in place to increase voting access, and 2020 we have a chance to land a real blow against white supremacy and conservatism.

Let us keep sight of that.

-But still, it is funny to point and laugh at this buffoon sometimes

Yes to all of this.

I think that the way to seal the deal is for Democrats to talk more like Republicans who talk more like AM radio show hosts. The trick is to talk like you have authority, that you do not actually have, and then claim that wield that authority in order to protect the listener from the ravages that the other side has and will unleash.

I want Bernie releasing his Monthly audit where it calculates all of the money that Trump's administration stole from American families each month. I want Elizabeth warren to issue her financial criminal watch list. Cory Booker, please start having a monthly top ten list of suspected white supremacists and known white supremacists.

Issue reports of known Republican rapists in congress. Play up every single hate crime (have profiles and back ground stories about the victims and read these profiles out loud on TV and during filibusters). Send out campaign literature with Betsy DeVos' head being severed by a French Revolution era mob. Demand unrealistic things such as provision where a State's Electoral College votes are based on its share of GDP (privileging California and New York).

In the last 20 years, we had exactly one liberal who could drive turnout with positive message and he was Barack Obama and he isn't running any more so let's get visceral, gruesome, Gothic, Dutertesque and use fear to drive turnout.

Republicans drive turnout based on fervid dreams of FEMA camps, their towns and cities under martial law and forced separation of children from their parents. Democrats will be judged failures if they fail to drum up similar turnout when their own coalition actually is subjected or will soon be subjected to those horrors in real life.

the funny thing about testing for stamps is that you can just use your kid's pee.......the same kid you get stamps for.....so...........

it's mostly true: http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news...18/drug-testing-welfare-applicants/53620604/1

although if you read the note at the end of this article, not all of them were tested. the 87k were randomly screened: https://mic.com/articles/122607/arizona-drug-tested-welfare-recipients-here-are-the-shocking-results
Yea, but that doesn't mean the other 86,999 all passed the screening. According to articles, many refused to take the test, and lost their benefits immediatley.
And as you pointed out, this quote from end of 2nd article shows you 'alternative facts' in the cut:
"And while 87,000 people have gone through the state's welfare system, which includes drug screening, in the last three years, not all of them have been tested for drugs."

Don't let the orange man's latest delusional outburst this morning overlook the fact that the House intelligence committee's first public hearing of their bipartisan investigation into Russian collusion is today, a fact that he seemingly wants folks to forget about...

Fox News is also getting an early start on trying to minimize it

"fair and balanced"

Not sure what the clown is trying to accomplish in his tweets when the majority of folks with any sense have seen that he lies out of his *** every single time.

Maybe it's just to rile his base up but he's probably nearing his peak or has already even plateaued in terms of number of supporters. I haven't see him gaining any new ones outside of his hardcore, almost cultlike following who have been there since the primaries.

FBI director Comey is set to address the wiretapping claims and Russia's involvement with the past election at 10am.

You think anything new or good will come of It?

i suppose there might be some utility to just just demagoging & going generally negative, as it has been shown to work...but wouldn't this just end up polarizing things more? how useful is this really given gerrymandering, and when our system does allow for the minority (party) to gum things up/obstruct pretty effectively...not to mention, the conservative media contingent have just proven themselves better at this and there are no guarantees that scandal & controversy will benefit progressive aims

obviously turning out the vote matters, but i think how it is done does matter...and trying to make the opposition into villains just seems like it would be counterproductive.

Comey confirms the investigation about Russian interference is on and they are looking at whether anyone from trump's team was a part of it. He says the details remain classified for now.

So this will drag on but will be a rain cloud over trump for months or years and could put some of his buddies in jail eventually.
