Im not a bernie sanders supporter, i'm not telling black people what to think. My opinion is it will have a large backlash and possibly some unintended consequences. That's all i was sharing. I'm not trying to have a big argument because it's not something i'm against in principal

It is not just Bernie Sanders supporters that have been telling black people how to think. Nearly entire white community has been guilty of that since the first slave set foot in the country.

And I'm asking you to explain your position. Your just dropping drive by comments, without and thing behind them.

I think there would be racial backlash and resentment and a false narrative set up of "racism is over. Stop crying". Further dividing the country. Social media and the news will concentrate on the inevitable morons who spend their money loud and unwisely.

That doesn't mean it shouldn't be done. It just won't be all sunshine and rainbows

I can already see the headlines regarding reparations used to fund drug habits and operations. Media will find the ugliest thing they can

Or it will be a tiny sum of money that black people feel offended with

I agree with you regarding the negative narrative the media and others would perpetuate as far as highlighting people using money for wasteful reasons. I also agree that people would claim racism was over in the same fashion they did when Obama became President.

However, I don't see how the resentment would be that much worse than it already is. At least people would be compensated for the resentment they already face rather than for free like what currently happens. If we are honest, this country has never truly made up for or compensated African Americans for slavery, Jim crow, or anything else. Everytime reparations gets brought up, people always argue the logistics of the process and how uncomfortable it will make people feel, without acknowledging the impact the racist policies of the past and to a certain degree the present has had on a group of people. Even if reparations isn't the answer, doing something is better than the current do nothing position.

A lot of questions gotta be asked about reparations.

1. How do we determine who gets it? Do you need to have a direct ancestor who was a slave? Does that mean I'd get a check but Obama wouldn't (immigrant African father/white mother)? What about ppl whose families moved here from the islands?

2. "White" ppl will come out the woodwork claiming they're somehow part black. Some probably actually are, like on some 1/16th black type stuff. Do they get a check even tho they've lived their whole lives and received the benefits of being white?

3. How do you pay those currently incarcerated?

4. Do those no longer living in the USA get reparations?

And that's just the things I can think of off the top of my head. So yeah, there can easily be negatives from reparations just within our own community. If I get a check because I have an ancestor who was a slave, but my best friend, whose parents are immigrants from Jamaica, doesn't get a check he's gonna be pissed. He's experienced all of the ills of racism and white supremacy and was born in America, but doesn't get reparations. Now you're creating an additional "second class" within our own community.

Also, you're living in a fantasy land if you think this country can't have more resentment towards blacks. Not gonna lie, I thought the same thing before Obama was elected and then I watched racism get kicked in overdrive over the last 8 yrs. If reparations are just a check or land it in NO way fixes the systems in place that keep blacks as second class citizens.

The best thing this country can do for us is properly fund majority black school districts and HBCUs, get rid of the prison industrial complex and raise wages. Writing me a check or giving me land they'll in turn collect taxes on won't help us advance at all.

Kid Rock endorsed Donald Trump today which means Kid Rock's music is longer the worst thing about Kid Rock.

I don't know why you're worried about being called an Uncle. I don't think there is anything wrong with being concern about the fallout from such a program.

The fallout must be anticipated, because of course white supreamcy with transfrom itself under these new laws. Just like it did after slavery and Jim crow

Reparation doesn't have to be in cash form. They could be programs aid directly and helping black move up the income ladder and build wealth.

Basically incentivizing certain behaviors, and making it much easier for folk to pull themselves up.

As i wrote in another thread.

I wrote this in another thread. I'm would really prefer a system where black people are empowered and able to grow wealth easier. Over just throwing money at the problem:

Because if you throw money at it, people can find was to still exploited black folk and get that money back.

So under my plan black folks get:

-Free healthcare
-Free college
-Low interest business loans
-A federal rent control scheme
-A national holiday on election day, extended voting periods, and a high concentration of polling places in black neighborhoods, and outlaw gerrymandering. (this is help most everyone too)
-Extension of EIC credit the working poor and middle class
-All non violent drug crimes expunged from their records.
-A ton of resources funneled into predominately black schools

This list is not comprehensive, but I figure it is a start to empower black people and undo some of the harm done to the current generation.

-BTW, I don't accept the "America can't afford it" in the context of "we don't have the money, so lets do nothing." But I do in the context of "holy **** we have so much harm to the black community, we will never be able to truly pay them back'" but lets start with.........

I would add some other stuff, in that too. Like universal Pre-K for black families, maybe a federal vouchers system for blacks to attend private schools, a new part of the DOJ that investigates local governments.

I mean we can have a healthy debate about the programs.

You can tier benefits based on immigrants, and natural born citizens.

I not foolish enough to believe other people won't be resentfulness. But a) nearly every group in this country that has been done harm in this country has been given some form of reparations. Even whites for the great depression.

Except the black community.

Of course there will be a free rider problem. But for something this important, I believe black American should not get rustled.
