H.S. kid goes rally car happy wit his friends in his new impreza, loses control, all die sans driver

Its not necessarily the parent's fault for getting the WRX. You can't fault them for that. Wouldn't you wanna give the best for your child? The issue is more so raising the child to be responsible and to make sure that they are a capable driver before buying the car. He had a learners permit. He shouldn't have been driving. Maybe even not letting the child out at 3:40AM with the car. In highschool If you're out at 3:40AM with a WRX you ain't doing **** positive or safe.

R.I.P to the parties involved though.

So...you basically are saying it's the parents' fault.

I mean, the car aspect, I just don't see how wanting to give the best for your child means giving them a car that (correct me if I'm wrong, I know little about WRXs) most kids look at for its speed, especially when they only have their learner's permit. It's not even about money or being spoiled but there are a ton of safer, smarter options. That's a car that you kinda have to know a 17 year old is gonna want to drive as fast as hell. Just like because your kid wants an M3/5 instead of just the 3/5 or S4, etc... Yeah, they can be reckless in any car but those seemingly encourage the kid to use that power.

aww damn that's my hood.

looks like all guyanese and trini kids from the hill. Sad. I remember a couple years ago i think four guyanese teenagers died near jfk when their car went into the barrier.

Kids wanna live that rude boy life too soon.

Yep... parents probably did real estate or owned some type of business.

I also remember those other kids that died in the Charger that they got for graduation on that turn right after the entrance to JFK Expressway from the Van Wyck.

You guys think this is crazy there was a kid around that area that his parents bought him a R35 GTR to bribe him to do good in school and go to college :smh: he started messing up and they took it away though, but someone I know that's from around that area said he got it back :smh:
One of my cousins from Long Island, actually around the same area that this accident happened not to far by Exit 21 I think, his parents got him a brand new 3 series when he was like 15-17 back in the day and his head was so big because of his ego with the car... but he's a straight up weed head druggie that finally held a job for almost a year now after like over a decade :smh: he's so spoiled and his parents still give him money even though he's working to support his drug habits and gets mad they see he isn't going anywhere in life. They be mad envious of me because I'm doing good and have a banging chick, making good money and going places and I came up in a really rough environment and I'm the exact opposite of him and he grew up and a really nice quiet suburb.

Uhhh...cool story?

wrx/sti is too much car for a 17 yr old :smh:

this is sad...

all of this this. i don't understand how you **** up a turn with that kind of car. this fool was mad stupid thinking he could drive at all, let alone a wrx. i feel sorry for the passengers more so than the driver..

also isn't driving with a permit illegal unless with an adult? parents fail at life for buying a car, esp a WRX, for someone who isn't licensed to drive, or ready for that kind of responsibility. wtf did they think would happen? :smh:

Any photos/video of the curve, or google maps, etc? Interested to see what they were going at at 3:40AM
Your cars direction would be following the yellow transit line in Google Maps (straight), so you can see how it can be the dangerous turn.

That location has an unreal amount of accidents, but the bulk of them are late night/early morning with people carrying far too much speed on an empty road, majority of those being fatal. That turn isn't particularly hard too navigate should you be moving at a "normal" speed, but a few kids lately have decided to blast through there in damp conditions and end up in big time wreckage, if they're lucky. A few have plowed into the overpass.
I can actually see how its possible.

The road curves rather abruptly.

He's going to live with that guilt for a long time. His fault that four people died. Teens and the elderly making driving hell.

My sister knew some of those kids. She called my mom up crying when she heard the news. I still don't get what they were doing out that late. It feels like kids these days have way too much freedom. I'm 24 and my parents, especially my dad, still give me dirty/worried looks when I get home late without giving them a heads up. I understand though, I'm still their child and I live under their roof.

RIP to those kids and my condolences to the families.

I dont think the parents decision getting him a WRX was a bad one. Chances are the parents dont know too much about cars and probably have seen all those Subaru commercials thinking the car is super safe. I doubt they knew its performance capabilities. They were probably just glad the son didnt push for a Bimmer or something.

damn, what a sad story.

these cars are no joke. it was awhile back, but I had a buddy who was in a somewhat similar situation in the past.

His boy had pre-ordered one of the first WRX's that came stateside in '01/'02. My friend's friend was one of those younger dudes who had a lot of disposable money, and was a bit reckless (my boy was reckless too fwiw). The first or second week after his buddy got his car delivered, the 2 of them ended up getting crazy faded and thought it would be a good idea to take the car out in the middle of the night to the local mall for a drive. The mall parking lot basically surrounded the mall, creating a huge loop "track" and they were out there just actin the fool goin 100+ and drifting the car around the corners.

this is what happened

700

My boy was sitting in what used to be the front passenger seat. His idiot friend lost control going around one corner, and wrapped the car around a tree. Driver walked away with bumps and bruise. My buddy was lucky to walk away with his life. I forget the exact count (of broken bones) but it was a mess. Basically half of my buddy's body was broken. Hospitalized for months, bed ridden for atleast a full year, and then PT+use of a cane to get around for awhile after that. It just isnt worth it.

Both stories r a shame... Some ppl suck at driving but the kicker for me is the parents

Sti at 17?.... Rightttt

Out at 3 30 n the mornin on his temps?..... Rightttttt

Cartin around other pals kids at that time of night? Rightttt

Anyway the beers r in for a tough road, sure they're beyond elated their son is gunna make it but the other parents might murk em...

That unforgivable guilt :smh

Yes it was... 8)

I drove buy this on my way to work Monday when they where pulling the car out and the it wasn't recognizable at all. I live in Richmond Hill and it's real common for West Indian parents to give there kids fast and expensive cars at a young age. I don't know why they do but I can tell you I got friends with STI's, Beamers, and Benzs that aren't old enough to drink. It's a sad situation but the parents should have been smarter and waited till the kid had some age to give him a something with a turbo under the hood.

Not sure but is the car racing culture a really big thing within the West Indian youth community? I used to go to St. Johns which had a fairly big West Indian community and I mean I mostly saw/heard West Indian kids discuss in heavy detail car modifications, models, etc

Just wondering because I don't know much about cars but man they knew things I was :wow: about engine mods etc.

:smh: smmfh it happens every year stpid kids with permits kill themselves and friends, i had alot of friends from hs die in similar ways and the driver is always the one who survive...a good friend of mine did the same thing in hs now hes soo messed up in the head..coudnt imagine that being me or being that dumb from the jump to drive that reckless

Yes, it is.

Most of the west indian kids i went to HS with had cars by 16-17

Nice cars, too.

I don't understand west Indians. My parents r from India, and we stress education, modesty, and respect. A lot of west Indians on the other hand it seems do drugs, act ratchet, and race cars. Like can someone explain why we're so different.

what does where one live have to do with their smartness?

Where did I say all or most? I said a lot. That could be more or less than 50%. I am not generalizing.

Idk. It shouldn't make a difference. That's why I'm asking.

As a west-indian I think I can answer this question.

1) what you and your parents taught you doesn't apply to ALL indians that are in america. I've seen a fair share of dumbass indian dudes in nyc.

2) there is many west indians, like you said, who do act out of pocket, race cars and do drugs. I find that it's a culture thing. While some west indians might share the same foods, religion, and traditional customs of India....we are not Indians. Our culture in south america & the carribean especially among the youth are really no different from youth culture in other places across the world....drink (rum), get a fast car to impress people you don't really need to impress, and fake it until you make it.

Basically if your talking about the indian west indians from jamaica, guyana or trinidad then the reason why they differ so much from indians from india is basically not just a want but a need to show wealth instead of actually having it because of the hard conditions especially in guyana some people have to go through, even though not as rough as parts of India, we have the accessibility to stunt when we get a chance. And on top of that as far as racing cars are concerned you gotta understand that west indians are born mechanics....I probably got 10-15 mechanics in my family.

But then there are many of us who figured out we don't really need to do that...in that degree.
