Can we get a R&B/Soul/Neo-Soul thread?

Jhene Aiko is so damn cute, I want to like her music so bad
That is the first song I've heard from her that I actually like though

John Legend - Who Did That To You

I think Legend is talented, but a lot of his stuff is kinda of meh...Feel the same way about a lot of Alicia Keys work too. This song is from the upcoming Django Unchained soundtrack...

^^ I know what you mean man. A lot of his stuff his is too grandiose. An a stripped down (pause) john legend with just the piano would be dope

I randomly thought about Teena Marie today. She died the day after Christmas :frown:

Teena Marie - Behind The Groove

RIP...She had a lot of great songs, this one was one of my favorites...The 12" mix was better than the album version...Had a little more bump to it...

Patrice Rushen - Haven't You Heard & Number One

I think I've posted some Patrice Rushen on pervious pages...I think she's criminally underrated when people consider great r&b female singers/instrumentalist. People don't realize she wrote, produced, & played most the instruments on her stuff...

Love this 12" mix of the Haven't You Heard...Forget Me Nots, Remind Me, Haven't You Heard, Settle for My Love, Kickin' Back, Number One, Hang It Up, Feels So Real, I Was Tired of Being Alone to name a few...A lot of producers/beat makers have raided her catalog...

Settle For My Love (Patrice Rushen & Musiq Soulchild)

Musiq covered this songon his debut album...Also the original...

how'd yall feel about Legend's album with the Roots? I thought he showed some real grit on a couple record which impressed me (i.e. I can't write left handed). Think he needs to go that well a bit more

Mr. Brown -

I'll preface my remarks by saying I've been a Roots fans since Do You Want More?!!!??! was released back in January '95 or '9. I remember rushing to Kemp Mill Records to buy the CD. I've also seen them live about 5-6 times over the years.

Having said that I thought that was John Legends best work however the album overall was mediocre. I was excited when I heard it was releasing but when I gave it several spins it didn't really resonate with me. It was released about 2 years ago & I haven't really listened to it since.

The song I requested the DJ to play for couple skate with my first gf..

That simpery..

Teddy Pendergrass - Love T.K.O.

One of my all time favorite r&b songs....Also loved that scene in Sugar Hill with Raynathan...

Janet Jackson - When I Think Of You & Making Love In The Rain (Herb Albert Song)

Old school Ms. Jackson...

Sweetback - Softly, Softly (ft. Maxwell), Gaze (ft. Amel Larrieux), & You Will Rise (ft. Amel Larrieux)

Nice posts DOD...Love Bobby Womack...

This is Sade's band (side project) from several years ago...I've posted You Will Rise before...
