Can we get a R&B/Soul/Neo-Soul thread?

?uestlove didn't say the album was done 2 years ago, he said it was "99%" done this time last year in fact. Keep in mind, D'Angelo ain't your dime a dozen artist. He's been gone a long time & once the juices are flowing, he might've tapped a rich creative vein. I'm encouraged by the studio clips shown above. You wouldn't hire an expensive bassist like Pino Palladino if you weren't steady doing something in the studio.

Posting some Gary Clark Jr. I was lucky enough to see this talented young brother years ago. Got swagger like a true Texan should. I was sooo excited for this major label debut dropped & was disappointed that it kinda sucked. He should've stuck with one genre instead of trying to hit several. He's also tried going to flossy route instead of keeping it dirty like some blues Wu-Tang or something. Listen to how he melds Hendrix's Third Stone From the Sun in the beginning of this song... :smokin Listen to JJJ expertly playin' them drums too.

Not sure if discussed already, but Jhene Aiko's EP is pretty outstanding.  Short obviously, but great.

Narrated by ?uestlove & will feature the likes of D’Angelo, George Clinton, Sly Stone, Bootsy Collins, Nile Rodgers and scholar Michael Eric Dyson. Check it out....

Missed it last night. I'm sure they'll repeat it to death though.

The Unsung on the Disco era was pretty good as well.

Allen Toussaint - Get Out Of My Life, Woman

Everyone should recognize the beat at the beginning of this song. It's been used in many a hip hop songs. It's a staple for a lot of beat makers. Toussaint is a one of 'Nawlins finest.

The Meters - Cissy Strut

Another 'Nawlins treasure. The drumming in this track has been used a lot to...
