Hey GOONS! Wanna meet my new puppy? Suuree ya do! Come on in (Photographs)

hey Club, whats up with the shredded paper in one of those pics? I hope you didnt lay that down in the crate itself.
great looking pup though. unless you choose to be a careless owner, kiss a good portion of your social life goodbye. whenever you want to do something, youre always going to have to think of the dog first.
The paper was just from him flying in with the crate given to me, I just snapped a quick pic before taking him home and cleaning his crate out and laying a blanket down for him.

Ive done my homework on this, so I think ill be ok in regards to training and whatnot. As long as I can get him acclimated to being on his own for a few hours at a time without throwing a fit, ill manage from there

club, your dog is awesome.

I recommend when you're walking him, make sure its a short leash. This will train the dog to not walk ahead of you and try to walk you. That way you're in control and the dog will know it. It'll make it a lot easier to walk him later on.

edit: Also, if you're going to be teaching him little tricks its useful to use little treats, use hand commands.

never seen this breed before, im always weary when it comes to these hybrid types because there isnt much info out on what can occur for example what diseases they're prone to or if the inbreeding has any factor in their temperament, but he is so cute..is there someone that will be home with him all day or is he going to be alone? my dog spent the 1st week sleeping in the crate at night and he goes in there just to lay down or chill, he learned everything in a week he can sit dance shake stay and goes to the door when its bathroom time, apparently he was a stray and i think he was abused :frown: hes so chill and great takes alot of patience to train a dog but in the end its worth it.

technically yes.

Licensed i Prime Ministered you.

About the leash thing: everytime he pulls ahead, i just stop dead in my tracks until he calms down. I hear this effective, any experience with that?

any home remedies for loose stool as well? I know it probably has to do with the stress from flying and the change in food (im using Evanger's canned dog food and Brothers brand Kibble) but its good to be prepared.

Yeah the AKK has only been around about 40 years as an actual breed, but in that timeframe there have been very minimal health issues and they seem to have a decent lifespan of 15-17 years. Now since it is a new breed obviously we dont know all of the answers yet but I felt rather confident that with a solid diet and adequate exercise, he'll probably be ok.

As far as who will be here: No one most of time, my lady might stop by when im not home though (which is....a topic for another discussion, cigars on you). im working with him diligently to deal with some time by himself with hour-long crate sessions followed by fun-times. I just want to establish that i'll always be back if he's patient enough, but i never respond to his cries, only when he calms down.

If Hugo gets too far ahead I do the same... Bring treats with you and tell him to "come" or whatever your keyword is for recall and reward him when he does so.

DO NOT tell him to come unless he is actually going to do so... If hes sitting there staring at you and you're repeating the word that is supposed to induce the action the word will not mean anything to him... Being able to call him and having him return to you is probably the most important command you'll teach.

im in the same boat as Club on this one. My dog (Olde English Bulldogge) is a fairly new breed as well, give or take 40 some years in existence. Just my opinion, but I think these newer breeds are less susceptible to health issues because there hasnt been enough time for these issues to have been bred in. With a lot of popular breeds (Pits, english bulldogs) health issues are prevalant because the popularity has motivated unscrupulous breeders to cut corners and inbreed just for a fast buck. With newer breeds that the general public may not be as aware of, I feel thta there is less of this. Those who took the time to research and eventually acquire and raise these dogs tend to err on the side of caution and take better care and precaution when breeding.

my roommates decided they wanted the responsibility of raising a dog so they went to the shelter and adopted a pit bull/terrier mix. She's three months old and sweet as can be. any tips for training? we're having a bit of a problem getting her to consistently poop on the pad. she's pretty good with peeing on the pad but still has the occasional accident. also, is it normal for a pup to be peeing like twenty times a day? she's also not taking too well to crate training... she cries all the time when she's put in there and also consistently poops in the crate...

when i had my first pup, i was too young to pick up on all the nuances of raising the thing and now i feel like i'm out of my depth (the roommates certainly are ) any advice would be appreciated.

Came in here to hate, but that's a very cute dog. I wish I could have one but they would prolly die of neglect and starvation. :\

There were no dogs at your local shelter that needed a home to prevent them from being put to sleep?  Instead you had to pay to have one flown in from out out state?  Legit makes me sick.  I'm not trolling you in any way either.  ******g disgusts me.

I get the sentiment, and I would advocate always trying to rescue a puppy before purchasing from a reputable breeder, but I wouldn't bash a person for doing so. They are the ones who will be spending the next 10-15 years with the puppy, its their choice on what kind of dog or where they get it from.

Goddamn . I kinda get what you're saying but there's no need to bash him. He wanted a puppy, that he could raise for it's entire life, who didn't yet have certain training or tendencies or previous owners. You usually can't get that at a shelter.

The Cat's Diary

Day 983 of My Captivity

My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength.

The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet. Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates my capabilities. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am. Bastards!

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow, but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released, and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously ******ed. The bird must be an informant. I observe him communicate with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe. For now ...
