OFFICIAL BEATMAKING / PRODUCTION THREAD Vol. New NT

Hey guys, any Logic Pro X users in here who were formally FL Studio users?

Getting a macbook pro soon, and I will still be running FL Studio via bootcamp, but I'm thinking of giving Logic a try since its so cheap now ($199.)

I tried Logic before and HATED it. Honestly didn't give it more than 2 weeks. Main thing was the drum programming and sequencing work flow. I LOVE the workflow for laying out my drums in the step sequencer in FL.

Question: Do you guys know if there is a way to lay out my drums in Logic pro similar to the workflow in FL?

Even in the piano roll? I happen to hate the piano roll in Logic too......I love the left click add and right click delete simplicity in FL, in Logic you have to select all this stuff, such a BUZZ KILL!

play ur drums in like a man

currensy currensy had the idea for the contest , so he should pick the sample. Once that's done we'll start a new thread, get people signed up and make a deadline. I say we put a poll at the top and let the NT gen pop participate in picking a winner - maybe put "come in and vote" as part of the thread title (I like NT PRODUCERS INVITATIONAL NOVEMBER 2013 - COME IN AND VOTE :] ).

Once we get a sample, I say we set a 11/15 submission deadline and open voting from the 15th until the 30th.

If this works, we can do it once a month, delegating a different member to pick a sample each time. I'd even be down to pay an entry fee, create a pool and give the funds to the winner, or use the funds to buy something gear-related.

What do you think?

Do you guys think it will turn into a popularity contest is we allow everyone to vote?

Let's see how the first one turns out before we start adding money and creating pools. I think that's a great idea BTW.

Lol I will not be in this one.
Literally JUST starting out..
Still learning basics.. Haven't even produced a full beat yet.

cut that out fam...i'm just starting out too, but i'm down...it'll be good to have some motivation to finish up a track instead of sitting around with these half thought out projects...i don't even wanna make traditional hip hop, but i'mma give it a go...

i can rock with that sample as well. I say give people 3 options though.

As for rules, i say just keep it simple (no beatjacking, must use one sample, etc)

I feel the same way, no $ or complex arrangements until we do a few "basic" ones and they're running smooth.

As for rules, here's what I propose:

1) You can use as much or as little of the original source record as you want - feel free to chop, loop, distort and reverse/invert that sample to your heart's desire.

2) That being said, besides drum sounds and "effects", you cannot use any additional samples for the purpose of adding to the melody - your track has to be based off of the original source record only.

3) Additional software (or actual - !) instruments CAN be used - pianos, synths, strings, etc. - if you want to play on top of, or with the sample, that is allowed.

That's all I have for now. Anyone else care to add on?

Edit: Also, currensy currensy , I say we just run with that sample, I'm digging it (pun intended). No use in overthinking, this should be fine.

great sample choice. just for the sake of variety, i'd say give people two to choose from. but make sure they're of equal quality.

^ I can rock with that :smokin

if we gonna do this, lets do it...

but some needs to send everybody involved a high quality sample...

also, any rules???
I'll see what I can do about the quality part, i'll dl and send it to you all.

I rock with those rules, simple and to the point.
What do we do when we're finished?

Hold on to it until everyones finished by the proposed date I guess?

Does November 15th sound ight, or too much/little time?

Also I'll try n get another sample.
