OFFICIAL BEATMAKING / PRODUCTION THREAD Vol. New NT

Wen do u actually post music?

Never. I have my reasons not to post anything online. Regardless, everything I said was legitimate.

Closest you'll get to me posting beats online is my instagram.

just peeped. you got some solid work on there fam.

what you said about the soundcard is true. i dont know why i assumed everytone was rocking with a mbox

but the upgrade has made a huge difference. i ran 10 instances of omnisphere on 256 smp buffer length with absolutely no lag :wow: :pimp:

Appreciate it. But the instagram is light work. Anything I have online is what I'm willing to lose or have stolen. Yall should be careful bout what you post cuz dudes are definitely out to steal your beats

And yea man that no lag life is beautiful. Dudes think you gotta have a mac to have a perfect computer

Help a fella out? :D

bassline will always pull a sampled track together. honestly, in the second half this is the j cole sample isnt it? sounds exactly like one off friday night lights that "one time for the citaayyy! and two times for youuuu" track.

also...im pretty sure this is also holy moly by talib. could be wrong on it tho.

as far as the beat goes...keep the switch up part and use that as the main. stronger drum sounds/percussion, bass, maybe add in strings for the chorus. voila.

Props man. After looking around WhoSampled.com, it looks like the Talib track samples Holy Moly, an Aretha Franklin cover/reinterpretation of Elton John's Border Song, which I used in that beat. J Cole definitely didn't use the Elton cut, maybe he used Aretha, I don't think so, though.

So by switch up part you mean the main loop for the last half of my clip?

And how can I make a baseline sound correct when I've altered the pitch of the sample? Any tips?

Also to an above post... What do you mean by this?

Some filters and 1/16 or 1/32 chops to give it a smoother vibe.

I would also throw some reverb in the chian after the filtering.

Check me out brehs. I welcome any/all feedback.
More coming soon.
I follow back too. :pimp:

As a producer, you lose by not showcasing what you can do online, you have to set some bait out there to gain a base.

That's one approach. I have 0 desire to acquire a fan base. It's not like the artists I wanna work with will hit me up after a certain number of followers or SoundCloud plays. The fan base will be automatic after your first hit anyways. Everyone d***rides soon as you get a hit

I'm going the direct networking route. For instance I just got back from networking at a local venue. Just hooked up with a certain up and coming singer, justice League, and some big producers/djs. That'll take me much further than releasing beats online.

Imo. And not a single placement of mine, has come from a beat I had online. People don't wanna admit it, but it's not what you know... It's not even about who you know... It's about who knows YOU. Ayo told me that and it's 100% true.

new ish NT lemme know what think about this mix

and what are some of yall guys favorite mixing techniques?

do any of yall own any of the new DSI prophets?

been looking at the 08, was thinking about the 12 but the digital part kind of turned me off, not too mention that price tag.

im going to be getting an ensoniq dp4, strymon big sky and timeline fx pedals to add some character to it.

i dont have an interface or even a mixer

been looking at the soundcraft 8 channel mixer with built in fx and also the UA apollo twin duo, but those extra plug ins cost the amount of the actual hardware units they mimic.

Everyone here frequents FL right? I got about 3-4 questions, anyone have time to give detailed answers?

Ask away, if one person doesn't give you the answer you are looking for others will chime in for a better detailed answer. Personally I use FL right now.

1. How do I track/map a song out? As in after I make the piano rolls how to I include/exclude certain sounds at a certain part

2. How do I record separate parts? Like I want to play out the 808 hits, then I want to add a synth but I want to play the synth while the 808 is hitting but had previously recorded the 808, just layering the synth on the 808?

3. How do you layer/stack?

4. How do I make a beat, send it to an artist, they record their vocals and I mix/master a finished version?

Sorry it's a lot

It sounds like you just starting out.

Watch some tutorials on how to make a beat like your favorite producers and then as weeks/months go by of you doing beats everyday you will develop your own sound.

But mostly the answer to your first three questions are to just record different instruments in different patterns.

As far as your fourth question, most of the time you mix the beat and the artist's engineer will master it with his vocals, unless you have like a personal relationship with the artist and are like in the studio with him.
