OFFICIAL BEATMAKING / PRODUCTION THREAD Vol. New NT

Any tips on making self-composed stuff sound less cheesy/fake? I'm using Logic Pro with a MDI controller. I've tried all the filters, compression, EQ, reverb, etc... still sounds fake

Might want to look into buying VST Plugins. Learning more music theory helps a lot too, I've seen some basic sounds come out nice because the melodies were stacked right. sonunox34 sonunox34

Thanks. chaddtootired chaddtootired I still got a ways to go, but that keeps me motivated.

I'm exchanging my prophet for a Moog voyager which is what I've always wanted..

They're gonna charge me a grip for restocking since gf threw box away.

Eff it though I just want my dream synth.

The prophet was just too harsh at certain tones and it distorted easily.

Might be a little late but Layering + Mastering can change a tune completely

Thanks dog. Thing is I studied drums all through college so it's really frustrating not being able to put my ideas onto a track! Been playing drum set 10+ years. I swear if i had a room with a drum set, grand piano, vibraphone, etc my stuff would be so dope.

And YoHsu thanks, I need AUs since I'm on a Mac... any trusted sources?

Came up with this weird song last night, idk what happened here

That track you made is nice, you should keep at this stuff. That cowbell makes me want to do some live recording one day like how the old RnB stuff was made. Do you have any tips on learning the drumset? I took lessons like 4 years ago but my teacher ended getting a better gig at a music school so I just quit after he left. Still don't really know much besides keeping an ok steady beat.

i'll post this here out of curiosity I'm iffy on this one going to sleep on it but let me know what you think of it (as far as its bones still need to clean it up)

and I'm primarily sample based if that helps

i feel you. it aint one of them joints like you're thinking though bruh. i said the same **** when i saw it. that **** could honestly be on the radio.

would yall rather be touring off your beats like Skrillex and Cashmere Cat (essentially an artist yourself) or getting mad placements

I always wonder why Cashmere Cat isnt the most sought after producer in urban/pop music but then you turn around and see how crazy a Young Chop beat gets the crowd, but he doesn't do the tours where his beats are the main attraction like Skrillex/Cashmere/etc.

Yeah but those guys who are doing tours are versatile,

Nobody wants to pay to hear a bunch of snare rolls and gun shots, plus nobody is even interested in his music like that.

Well nobody with an attention span..

Do you have any tips on learning the drumset? ... Still don't really know much besides keeping an ok steady beat.

Man... I really can't give any advice to someone starting right now. Started with orchestral percussion in like 5th grade, then moved to drumline, then drumset... one thing that people swear by is practicing with a metronome. I guess my advice would be to find a teacher again, that should help you improvise off of a standard beat.

youre stretching samples short of the correct tempo. thats why they have cuts in them. what i find is, if you want samples to loop perfectly into each other, cut them EXACTLY to tempo. if you want the more boom bap style where the chops are noticeable but still sound nice, overstretch the samples by a couple milliseconds. itll give the beat more swing since the sample is slightly off-timed and will jump back on time at every chop.

RetcH and his team had no idea that the beat they were sent was stolen.

We worked everything out.

This whole song is fly. I gotta ask do you dudes on SC save your best beats for artists trying to buy stuff for full price though? :nerd:

I mess with it.

so this just got here...

That's tight. All them knobs confusing IRL though, at least for me. Went to Guitarcenter and was playing with this synth they had and didn't know what the hell I was doing lol.

I'd rather have placements or if I had a biggest enough fanbase to do shows like Bonobo.

I believe one dude I know practices with a metronome will keep that in mind for later. Might get offered an internship from someone I know and be able to learn the drumset and other percussion instruments for free.
