I had a collection of books that were lost, hundreds of dollars gone. I find myself STILL buying paper and hardbacks but PDFs are so much easier to carry.

I'd like to have a study when I'm older with my vast collection of literature but do you think that will be an option in the future? Or will E-books evolve? And is that a safe investment?

I have about 400-600 E-books, and since the start of my new library 10-15 physical books.

I'm old school...and I prefer books.

I'm currently in grad school for my MLIS, and we often discuss how the advent of ebooks has changed the nature of the library and its operation from a business standpoint.

I like holding books, and having a personal library does something to the overall aesthetic of one's home imo.

THIS

I feel like a man should have a library or start one after he's 30+ ...that's just me though, hence the thread, I'll be 30 in a few.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the feel of a real book in my hands while I'm reading. I'll never fully convert to an E-library. I will always seek out to get first editions of my favorite books, but it's much easier for me to download a PDF and get going. Having an e-reader while traveling vastly trumps lugging around 2-4 novels.

Are you guys on www.shelfari.com ? It's a great site and has a virtual book shelf that lets you track and review the books you've read/own.

Owning real books is so much better than digital books.

Like the other said :

-Feeling of having the book in hands.
-Library in your house full of books is :pimp:

Plus the smell of a book is :nthat:

At more than 200 books and no sign of slowing down, I need to buy another library :smh:

As a writer, e-books are easier to produce, supply, and distribute (obviously). They're also much easier to store, you can keep hundreds in something that takes up the space of one paper pulp edition.

Still, there's a tangible difference in holding in your hands a real, live, page-and-binding book. I have a lot of eBooks, but with my favorites, I need that tree-book too.

Right now I get two copies, one digital and physical. It's something about physical books, they hold a special place with me.

i have a kindle but i like reading actual books better than digital format. all my ebooks have been free ive never bought an ebook. regular books ive bought a bunch

I've always wanted a personal library.
But I would have so much manga/comic book related stuff... Graphic novel collection will be something serious :pimp:

I don't have the money to be buying books.  I have a few pdf files of books, and was thinking of just printing them out and stapling them together.

Sounds ghetto, I know, but I don't like reading books on screens just because I'd be staring at them for so long.

That's a damn Periodic Table of elements!
I think it's safe to say we all knew that Peter Parker, the pic was for symbolism there buddy.

There's people who sell movie scripts like that on 7th Ave, $50-$100.

Physcial copies are tangible and can be taken care of and what not. Just a few things that draw people in to keep purchasing actual books.

I tried the ebook thing but I still plan on building up a physical book collection soon. Same with my music. Just something nice about the tangibles :pimp:

In general, ebook library>>>bookshelf.

Easier to manage, read(at night), and takes up very little virtual space.

I see the bookshelf more as a means to collect books that hold meaning to you while the ebook library is much more practical.

yeah... im pretty sure most people who cop books from me dont read them... it just looks nice on the wall

E-book library >

Lately I've been watching a lot of horror stuff and when the demon gets mad he either starts flicking the books off the book shelves or starts slamming kitchen cabinet doors.

I still prefer to read from a physical book. I still buy them because a lot of the times I find them on sale and cheaper than the digital versions. I also like them better because I can throw it in my bag and leave it on a table and not worry about someone stealing it. With my tablet I worry about breaking it or someone swiping it when i'm not looking.
