Official 2023 San Francisco Giants Off-Season Thread - Jung Hoo Lee signs with SF 6-years $113 Million

My inlaws have been to Busch and said it was a good park to visit. It's on my list as well.

Lets hope this is more precautionary with Morse than anything else
 
for sure. last team i can remember was 03. that team also had a reeeeeeally good regular season from start to finish. was in 1st place from game 1 to game 162. jose cruz jr's **** up and that play at home plate with jt and pudge haunted me for years especially coming off that 02 season.

I wish you didn't have such a good memory because I'm reliving all the feels from that series.

Remember being so pumped after Game 1 when Schmidt dominated.  Then we got outplayed and I remember hating Jose Cruz Jr's guts after that **** up.  If I'm not mistaken, I think Aurlia had a crucial error the next game.  And all those replays of Ivan Rodriguez clutching that baseball after the final out of the series had me convinced this team was cursed.  

P.S. **** Sidney Ponson's fat worthless ***.
 
The '03 team was definitely a massive disappointment. But my own personal nightmare was '04 Game 161. Brett Tomko pitches the game of his life and goes 8 scoreless innings with us heading to the 9th up 3-0. Then the bullpen has a meltdown capped by Steve Finley's west clinching grand slam. We were eliminated a day later when Houston mollywopped Colorado :frown:

Game 161 of '04 was my nightmare too. I remember turning the TV off the second Finley hit the ball. Then turning it back on 30 seconds later because I couldn't believe what just happened. I went straight to bed that afternoon and didn't get out until the next morning.

But enduring seasons like 02-04 made 2010 that much sweeter

Will never forget game 2. Met a buddy at the game so had to drive up myself. Was so pumped after game 1, and then Ponson got ripped. I remember being so pissed off sitting alone in my car after the game.....while the lot was jammed and we couldnt get out for over an hour. Then I hear Ponson being interviewed after the game and him saying "this loss isnt on me. I did my job."

I never wanted to reach through the radio and strangle anyone as bad as I wanted to strangle that piece of **** Ponson at this moment. I was already pissed at the world for the game and being stuck in the lot for over an hour. Then I hear this me first **** head say that.

Those were tough times for us giants fans.
 
longtime lurker but die hard giants fan and since we are reopening old wounds just want to add on.  A couple posters mentioned that 2004 dodger game with the finley grand slam but didnt cody ransom boot a routine grounder to short that extended the inning for finley?  i dont think i've hated the dodgers more in my life than that day.  I was excited as hell because just a few days earlier i was able to get playoff tickets from the giants site after all the times i;ve failed and had to resort to the secondary market in 2000, 2002, and 2003.  But of course, when i finally get the tickets, its useless.  and going back to the 98 season where we were fighting for the wild card spot with the cubs, and i cant remember what it was exactly but we were down like 5 games with a week to go.  it ends up coming down to the last game of the year, cubs lose on a walk off error by their outfielder and all we had to do was win in colorado.  but then neifi f'ing perez takes nen deep and we end up playing the cubs in the play in game which we lose of course. 

and someone mention earlier that i really thought we were cursed and would never win anything while i'm alive. especially seeing the white sox and the red sox end their drought.  but man, me and my buddies, would gladly give in that 2010 world series for the 2002. 
 
Speaking of curses, I sometimes read the messages on the bricks that fans put on and a lot of them are messages to Giants fans who passed away. It's kinda sad and depressing to wonder how many Giants fans waited for the day that a chip would come and it never did.
 
dland, you're a better man than me.  That scenario you described would have driven me insane.  Never did hear Ponson say that but it does not surprise me one bit.  I do remember Armando Benitez throwing that quote out and it had me furious.  

All these names being mentioned in Finley, Neifi Perez, etc., those were some Giants that I never felt comfortable rooting for.  Dave Roberts was another one.  Former division rivals who have hurt us in the past, now past their prime cashing in and hardly (if at all) producing.  Nice going, Sabean.  I was fairly young and naive, but I didn't once clap for Orel Hershiser.

My Dad passed in middle of 2003 and when we won in 2010 I thought of him.

Speaking of Benitez....

Game back in August of 06 against the nationals.  got free tickets in the section by the bullpen about 15 rows up.  Went over to my buddies house before the game to make this sgn hoping he would pitch.  Giants were getting blown out but as soon as we saw benitez warming up,we ran down the aisle and got as close as possible to take this picture.  Sign says "Benitez blows..." and on the back said "...saves."  Couple of fans tried to get us kicked out and told us to take our sign and go back to oakland.
 
As much as I hated Armando Benitez, Ponson, and all the other horrible pitchers that are being mentioned, THIS guy takes the cake for me:

I remember being so happy the day we got rid of him........and then we got this chump back the very next season!!! I was pissed!!!
