I'm not sure I've ever understood the concept of a closer. Why not use the best pitcher available to go against whoever they're batting against?

so you really want to warm up nearly everyone in the pen and get them in based on matchups?
really? that kills your pen, dont care if you carry 8...
even worse in the nl...
a closer needs to be off...well, most of the time
wilson, balfour, gagne, frod (early frod), etc
not everyone has that...

Who big could we call up in the minors? Gary Brown? What we need is to get Belt and Pagan back. Blanco is awful and Belt coming back and hitting in the 2 hole has to help the bottom of our line up.

On the bright side, if someone has told us we'd be tied for the division lead on the last day of June back in April, we'd be thrilled. It's been an awful month but we still have time to turn it around.

As a fan of a team that has won two titles in the past four years, it is ridiculous that I am about to say what I am about to say.......
But I have now reverted back to pre-2010 with my opinion of Brian Sabean. I am done with this guy.
What was our single biggest problem in 2013? DEPTH. What is our biggest problem in 2014? DEPTH.
Every Major League team has to deal with injuries. It is a part of the game. What is ridiculous is that it is now the second year in a row, that when a player is out with an injury, we replace him with a player who is NOT a Major League caliber player. This is inexcusable. Is Pagan or Belt that irreplaceable? Absolutely not. But when you are replacing him with a player that has no business being in a starting Major League lineup....then yes said players look irreplaceable. I am tired of hearing the talk shows asking "what should Brian Sabean do to help this team?" Well what he should have done was acquired some real players in the offseason in case something like last year happened again. Now, we are dealing with the exact same thing that we dealt with last year.
