Official 2023 San Francisco Giants Off-Season Thread - Jung Hoo Lee signs with SF 6-years $113 Million

I guess its the same guy.  We will have to see I guess, but I am not getting my hopes up....again.

It's the MLB economics nowadays. Alot of guys hit free agency in their late 20s or early 30s and demand a deal into their mid-late 30s. Those last 2-3 years will rarely be worth the money.

When it comes to FAs that are seeked by multiple teams I don't get my hopes up until that player has his signature on that paper. We always come up on the short end despite reports saying we are finalists with a player.

Hope we dont get him. This would be the 3rd huge deal we'd give to a pitcher and the track record hasnt been good. Use that money on everyday players even if that means a mediocre 2015 season.

"7:36pm CST: CSN Chicago’s David Kaplan hears from “two very good MLB sources” who believe the Cubs are the leading contenders to sign Lester. An executive connected to at least one of the teams in the hunt, however, tells Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times (Twitter link) that he thinks Lester is leaning towards San Francisco."

Damn Lester! Hurry up and choose!

Yesterday it was he won't make a decision earlier than last night but not later than today. Now it is a possibility to be extended to tomorrow. Watch he does not decide until the weekend.

I would love to have Upton, but we'd only be renting him for a year. I don't think we'd be able to afford his extension. But you can get a free draft pick because whoever has him can extend a qualifying offer that he would reject.

Ruben Amaro Jr. just said on. MLBN that the Phillies are rebuilding. IF we miss out on Upton or other big name bats, i would love to go after Marlon Byrd.

Feel the same way especially since its a 7 year deal. But I wouldn't be completely mad because Lester could be down right filthy @ AT&T.

I see two things when looking at the SP free agent either your young and unproven or up in age/ stop gaps looking to cash in on one more contract thats 2 or 3 years too long.

Wouldn't mind kicking the tires on any of these guys
Brandon Beachy
Justin Masterson
Kris Medlen
Edinson Volquez

LB.....I said the same thing about Medlen or Beachy. Would love to roll the dice on one of them.

Here is who I would target from here on out-

Ervin Santana
Emilio Bonifacio and/or Chris Coghlan via trade from CHC for LF/Utility

Beachy/Medlen would be a nice secondary SP option, but I wouldn't expect any fliers taken on them until Spring Training from any team.
Of course Vogelsong still likely will be available on the pitching front if all else fails.....

Headley would be a waste of an overpay, would rather acquire a 3B via trade........ who exactly I have no clue.

Jut saw on Rotoworld that Volquez is seeking around 2 yrs, $20 million. Seems kinda low considering Lincecum makes that much in 1 yr.

Hell yes I want Justin Upton. Dude is only 27!

I couldn't believe AZ gave him up when they traded him.
