Official 2023 San Francisco Giants Off-Season Thread - Jung Hoo Lee signs with SF 6-years $113 Million

#Giants, with Pagan in the fold, have spoken with Nick Swisher's reps but are thinking smaller (Ludwick, Scott Hairston).

Nick Swisher. I like his OBP. Yankee Stadium product.

Ludwick had a good year playing in the NL central band-boxes. He sucked with the Padres.

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the bidding on free agent infielder Marco Scutaro has reached something in the range of three years and $24 million.
Yikes. Olney was told by a source involved that the Giants are viewed as the front-runners, but that's a steep price to keep the 37-year-old infielder in the fold. The Cardinals and Yankees have also been mentioned as possible suitors.

:x

Don't want swisher, personally...

Ludwick will be available at the trade deadline, like HE ALWAYS IS.

Whatever we need for an IF, I'm less concerned now that we have Pagan back, since CF was need #1.

Let the market play out a bit and don't over extend. They'll probably do the platooning LF last.

Shocked to hear a hitter, that has never played for the Giants, say he wants to play here.

Sounds like Giants are getting closer to resigning Scutaro with a 3 year deal.

I am really unhappy with a 3/$24M for Scutaro. I wasnt even thrilled with 2/$14M. The fact that Jeff Keppinger is rumored to be getting a 2/$8M contract is all that needs to be said about this potential Scutaro deal.

I would rather play Arias at 2B everyday if paying Scutaro a 3/$24 is the alternative.

And as far as Swisher goes, I am totally down for him assuming the contract isnt too big. I havent heard any figures, but I have to imagine that he is going to go for around $10M per. And if thats the case and we DO sign him, it is going to upset me that we didnt make a serious run at Josh Hamilton (who is rumored to be close to a 4 year contract with the Rangers). To me, it would have been a no brainer to sign Hamilton instead of Pagan & Swisher.

Hamilton/Blanco/Pence >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Swisher/Pagan/Pence (and this is not even close IMO).

Why would Josh Hamilton want to play here? So he can relapse again after he smells the dank coming from the bleachers?

“@CSNBaggs: #SFGiants VP Bobby Evans only going so far to confirm team prefers two-year deal with Scutaro, two plus option has been discussed.”

“@Ken_Rosenthal: Source: Scutaro in agreement with #SFGiants, $20 million for three years.”

“@JohnSheaHey: A $78 million offseason: Affeldt 3/18. Pagan 4/40. Scutaro 3/20. Check, check, check. #SFGiants”

3 years for scooter?? ugh. not a fan

would rather have arias play 2b to be honest. 3 years.... smh

Exactly what I was saying earlier. I absolutely LOVE having Scutaro back for 2013. Its 2014 and 2015 that I really dont care for.

i have no complaints. if it aint broke dont fix it.

just hope pence comes around this year...

Keeping this team together is a lot better than it was in 2010. We had amazing pitching, but caught lightning in a bottle, with Uribe, Renteria, Ross, Huff. Pagan and Scutaro are more valuable pieces then the 2010 guys. Sure they gave an extra year too many to those guys, but they fit with this team and ballpark and you have to get them.

Pagan will have 2 decent years, one mediocre and one DFA'd.

Scutaro seems like he's a young 37. Will he bat .300 next year? Probably not, but won't be striking out and is great in the number 2 hole.

The money is fine, it's essentially the money Huff got that just came off, so that's a wash.

My concern is future development. Having Scutaro for 3 is fine if he's healthy and contributes w/o harming the development of a younger core.

Hope Bochy gets a lot of rest before the season because he's probably going to have 130 different line ups. That's fine if it keeps people fresh and gives the younger players a chance to have meaningful at bats. Cuz once our pitching isn't like it once was (sad to think), we definately need young hitters.

Barry Zito is forgiven for everything, but his money needs to come off the book asap.

I would be totally fine with a massive contract restructuring and bringing Barry Zito back beyond his current contract. Granted, he would have to agree to a $3-4M a year contract, but we should at least offer it. He's the best #5 pitcher in baseball by a very wide margin IMO.

Cant see a another team not offering him more. Like the Angels for the same reasons you said. Especially if Timmy is gone.
