Official 2023 San Francisco Giants Off-Season Thread - Jung Hoo Lee signs with SF 6-years $113 Million

Now way we bring Zito back under any circumstances. There would be a bit of a media circus around that.
Giants Getting “Aggressive” In Pursuit Of Chase Headley
By  Mark Polishuk  [December 6, 2014 at 4:28pm CST]

The Giants’ interest in Chase Headley  is “turning aggressive,” FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reports (via Twitter).  San Francisco had been linked  to Headley and several other notable players in the wake of Pablo Sandoval  leaving for Boston, though it appears they’ve stepped up their pursuit of Headley to fill their third base vacancy.

Headley reportedly  has a four-year, $65MM offer in hand from a mystery team, a sizable bump from the four-year, $48MM that MLBTR’s Tim Dierkes predicted  Headley would receive in free agency.  The Marlins and Yankees have both been linked to Headley in rumors, though neither team is the one behind the $65MM offer; the Yankees, in fact, don’t seem willing  to go beyond three years to sign him.

Rosenthal isn’t sure how, if at all, the Giants’ focus on Headley could impact their interest inJon Lester, who had also been cited as Giants target in recent days.  As MLBTR’s Steve Adams noted in his Giants Offseason Outlook, the team was willing to give Sandoval a deal in the $95MM range and undoubtedly had a bump in revenue from their World Series victory.  If I had to guess, I’d suspect that the Giants would be able to afford both Headley and an ace-level starter like Lester if they felt the need.

Headley reportedly has an offer for $65MM over four years but sources tell Buster Olney of ESPN.com (via Twitter) that the Giants  are not in on him at that level.
Please be true.

Apparently Headley prefers to stay with the Yankees.  Can't blame him with offensively inclined stadium.

Been following MLB Trade Rumors heavily since Pablo signed with Boston. It looks like we have shown interest in Korean SS Jung-Ho Kang assuming that he would fill our 3B needs. With Headley and now Lowrie the only FA we have been linked to I hope to hear more about this guy and see if he is worth it cause Chase and Jed certainly are not.

Ken Rosenthal just tweeted:  Barring late change, Lester choosing between #cubs, #sfgiants

^Cubs would probably offer a little more $$, plus he has a familiarity with Epstein.

But I also read that SFG sent Posey to talk with Lester this weekend, and Lester was impressed. Could potentially be a huge pickup.

Not to be picky or anything, but given the choice and assuming the salaries are close to the same (which I doubt they would be), I would prefer Max Scherzer to Jon Lester.  Just my opinion.  Would love either.

Not just SP mkt waiting on Lester. Headley has to wait because #Sfgiants won't know how much can spend/not spend until know if got Lester

For 3B and LF, seems Sabean thinks there's better market with trades. #sfgiants
Jon Lester Leaning Against Signing With Giants
By Jeff Todd [December 9, 2014 at 2:58pm CST]

Giants assistant GM Bobby Evans says that he has been led to believe that lefty Jon Lester is leaning toward signing with another club, Jim Bowden of MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM reports (links to Twitter). San Francisco is “in the back seat” in negotiations at present, Evans said.

Lester has told the Giants that he is not going to simply take the highest bid, as has previously been reported. Evans left Bowden with the impression that San Francisco believes the starter is drawn to joining the Cubs or Red Sox.

Various reports have suggested that Lester’s decision would continue to be delayed as the teams involved — up to and including their owners — make a final push to land him. With the bidding said to be at or even above the $150MM level, Lester will surely feel comfortable that he has earned a market-value deal regardless of where he ends up.
Don't know why I constantly let my friend who works in the Giants front office get me excited for nothing.  SMH.
