Fox owns distribution rights to the original Star Wars, No. 4 in the series, in perpetuity in all media worldwide. And as for the five subsequent movies, Fox has theatrical, nontheatrical, and home video rights worldwide through May 2020.

I was written by a source themselves the “Whill” this week. They say they were involved with production and wanted to clarify some things. I was not able to verify the source, but another source of ours has heard a few things in this report. So I’m sharing. Rather than think about it for a week, I figured I would just share. Here you go:

Lukes Disappearance – The idea that Luke disappeared immediately after Endor isn’t entirely true. He had a good 10 to 20 years after Return Of The Jedi ended. When the movie starts he’s been missing for around 10 years.[/SIZE=5]


Count Dooku Connection – Back when Benedict Cumberbatch was a rumored addition to the cast, a rumor was that his character was a descendant of Count Dooku. This was true. This connection was then moved onto Gwendoline Christies character.


Leia and the Hutt’s – There was a production sketch done very very early on which showed Princess Leia standing in the middle of several Hutts. She was wearing a maroon dress (political style) and was flanked by two soldiers (they looked to me like the Naboo guards from Phantom Menace but to others they looked like the rebel soldiers from the beginning of A New Hope.) The picture looked as if she was having a meeting with them. She certainly didn’t appear to be captive or under threat. I have no idea if this sketch has anything to do with the movie that is being shot as it was very early on.


Endor – Again, very early on, there were several sketches titled ‘after party’ which was a bit of an in-joke. These showed a second battle of Endor. The story being that after the rebels left Endor, Imperial forces and these new villains attacked. They killed many Ewoks and more importantly left with the remains of Darth Vader. Now, where I was working at the time, there was a lot going on and some of it wasn’t necessarily related to Episode VII but other Star Wars projects that will fill in the gaps between Episode VI and VII .
I don’t think these scenes will appear in the movie but rather something set between movies.


George Lucas – George’s vision for the Sequel Trilogy was to take it right back to the beginning. Meaning, the beginning of the Jedi and Sith, how that came to be and how ancients forces were still influencing things. Luke was going to go on an adventure that would take him back to the origin of evil in the Galaxy. Some of these ideas have very much influenced the story.
So there you have it. If found the Endor stuff fascinating. It makes me wonder if it is potentially for a video game?

Ok I'd be fine with Luke being gone for 10 years, but still, how the heck did someone catch him ?

Looks like the Del Rey SDCC panel is up on Youtube. I will, as usual, stay the heck away from the comments, but I understand my quote about flashbacks has really fueled a lot of discussion about projects outside the subject matter of this panel. So at 4:20 mark (heh heh), what I said was, "But one of the conventions, as far as Star Wars storytelling goes, AT LEAST AS REBELS, is we don't do flashbacks." So there you go. Continue to debate endlessly.

Yes, James Luceno wrote a great book about how he dealt with the suit after Ep III. Like getting used to breathing, and the mechanical legs/arm and such. But he obviously learns quickly how to use the force for all those things and eventually begins to feel more powerful as his force skills increase.


Our only chance at seeing any of that is thru Rebels animated stuff.

Stop with the familiar. Stop being focused on the Falcon, Hutts, The Empire, Luke, Han, Leia, Hoth, Tatooine, etc.

You have an entire galaxy at your disposal, stop using the same 3 species, or planets, or people to move the story.

Create and use NEW Jedi. New Aliens. New Ships. New Sith. New planets.

Going back to Tatooine, a meaningless planet in the galaxy, yet we’ve had to go to it in like 4 of the 6 movies already? Now we wanna make it 5 of 7? :x
Jabba’s palace, 30 years later?
Still talking/dealing with Vader, 3 decades later?

They could create 50 Sith tonight, and forget about Vader tomorrow. It’s that simple. And they stay focused on the already told stories.

In the end, that is going to hinder, or limit where we want them to go with all this. We want NEW Star Wars, but they keep trying to use the OLD Star Wars to advance. That needs to stop.
The originals blew us away because they kept advancing, introducing new pieces to a greater story, not rehashing what they’d already done. That’s why Empire blew away with the new planet of Hoth, Cloud City, the asteroid field, Boba Fett, Carbonite, Degobah, Yoda, Lando, they just completely upped the story over the top of what they’d already done in Star Wars.

Do that again. Stop rehashing **** and give us more stuff in a galaxy wide space you can fill.

Good point, but truth be told, they know it don't matter.

They know they can release a crap product (Phantom Menace) and do a billion+ in business.


Fans like myself, want them to do better, and do it right, like the OG trilogy, but expand on those notions, not rehash the same old story lines and plot points.
