Not surprised by this...  We, as fans, only heard of this story in passing ...

Some on other sites were concerned that the average Star Wars fan has never heard of Sabacc, and that it may be hard to show it in much detail on screen without people being completely lost/not sure what they're looking at. I'm not worried, though, because Sabacc is described and called by name in the canon novel Bloodline- Leia plays it skillfully and gives credit to Han and Lando for teaching her how to play. Hopefully we'll get to see it actually being played for the first time in this movie 

 

EDIT: I don't watch SW Rebels, but apparently it has been played there, too (with, guess who: Lando).

Did a fan-film over the summer called "Idiot's Array" and I never knew it was a real game with cards and rules Director gave me a crash course on how to play and knew the hands and everything.

Apparently, I had a good hand but lost to an "Idiot's Array", which was supposed to be the rarest thing

Though I'm sure most of the other content will get thrown out the window for this Han Solo spinoff, a lot of what I know about Sabacc was from reading "The Han Solo Trilogy". Interestingly, in that old EU timeline, Han's love interest Bria Tharen ends up in a similar position/role as Rogue One's Jyn Erso...

Like I said, I expect things to play out very differently in these upcoming movies compared to the books, though. The Hutts were very interesting, but I don't think the T'landa T'il or the whole "spice" slaves storyline would translate well at all. I find it funny that Salla Zend found new life as Sana "Solo" in the recent comics.

I think it is safe to say FN-2199 was the breakout star Stormtrooper of The Force Awakens. In Episode VIII there is a featured Stormtrooper that is a force to be feared in the film. I’ve heard him referred to as The Executioner and other minor variations of that name. He has a matte black line that goes over half his mask on one side that sets him apart.

The Executioner’s weapon is not unlike FN-2199’s at the handle but it has three spinning blades on the end that are said to be like something out of Phantasm (think of the crazy blades that come out of the spheres in those films). We think he has a shield but we haven’t been able to confirm if he actually uses it in the film or not.

One rumor with some legs we have heard but cannot confirm is that Finn will go up against The Executioner and this time he doesn’t have Han Solo to save him like in he did last time (more on Finn’s mission very soon).

I passed the details of The Executioner onto our friend Lumberjack Nick. This is like a “police sketch” (or cartoon for that matter) of what the trooper looks like. The weapon is a little different in the film but Nick did a good job at capturing the gist of the character in case the text above leaves anything to be desired. This isn’t 1:1 accurate just to be clear; it is to give you an idea of how The Executioner is being described:

So, do you think Snoke/Hux/Ren found out that Phasma deactivated the shields, resulting in Starkiller Base being destroyed? Or were all records destroyed along with the planet? Surely that wouldn't sit well with them if they found out...

If she does return for Episode 8, you have to wonder how anyone knew to release her from the trash compactor prior to the planet being destroyed, too. I don't remember Snoke telling Hux "oh, and drop by the trash compactors and pick up Cpt. Phasma, too, on your way over to Kylo Ren"

I can see her radioing for someone to get her out of the trash compactor. She had plenty of time from the time she was put in to the actual planet blowing up. Whether someone finds out she turned off the shields or not, they could also just say she fell out of favor with Hux/Kylo because of that and that's what's motivating her to find/kill Finn in Episode VIII.
