Has this been shared yet? Recent quote from Disney CEO Bob Iger...

As one of the few people allowed to visit the set during filming….and one of the fewer who’s seen most of the footage…I can assure the millions of Star Wars fans who have spent the last decade hoping for a new movie this one will be worth the wait. And it’s only the beginning of a new era of exceptional Star Wars storytelling; next year we’ll release our first standalone movie based on these characters, followed by Star Wars: Episode VIII in 2017, and we’ll finish this trilogy with Episode IX in 2019

Slashfilms sums it up nicely.

I’m almost shocked at how much information and speculation is possible in those two long sentences. Let’s run it down.

Iger has seen most of the footage from The Force Awakens.
He believes it’s “worth the wait.”
He mentions the 2016 standalone movie.
He hints the 2016 standalone movie is about “these characters,” potentially meaning characters from the new movies.
Star Wars Episode VIII will be out in 2017.
There is no mention of a second standalone movie, directed by Josh Trank, hypothetically in 2018.
Star Wars Episode IX will be out in 2019.
He refers to that film as the end of “this trilogy.” That makes it sound like there will be more.
Now, of course we assume there will be more Star Wars after Episode IX concludes the Star Wars sequel trilogy (which Rian Johnson will also most likely direct). But to hear the head of the company hint at stories beyond that, and give us further confirmations of the years to expect those movies, is exciting.

As for the standalone movies, his tease about the 2016 film is curious, as is the omission of the second standalone movie for 2018.

^sounds like someone is trying to read too much into a general statement and is driving themselves crazy.

We pretty much all knew a while ago that "yearly" Star Wars films were coming. That more trilogies were likely, as well as spin offs, etc. I'm really not sure what they're searchin for.

Once 7 hits, and the 2016 spin off info starts to appear, and prep for 8 begin, we'll have more idea of what's coming, what characters may be expanded upon, stories, etc. Until we see 7, it's all really just guessing.

A few podcasts i listen to were saying that when he said "based on there characters" might be a clue that the first spin-off will be a tie in to VII and will include some characters from the film.

I'm tired of speculating, I'll just wait for official press releases when it comes to the spin offs. I know that the girl from the BBC show has been cast for the first spin off as the female lead.

Gotta figure Rebels ties into something, somewhere as well. Be it the spin off(s) or even the main trilogy.

You’re Damn Right: Orphan Black’s Tatiana Maslany Takes Lead Role in Gareth Edward’s Star Wars

Just last week we had word the star of BBC America’s Orphan Black was auditioning, along with Rooney Mara and Felicity Jones, for a role in one of the Star Wars standalone film directed by Godzilla’s Gareth Edwards. We were extremely excited about the prospect.

The hints were there as Maslany recently dropped out of a Broadway play due to “filming schedule conflicts,” but yesterday Total Geeks said they had it from a “source close to the production.” A source of our own also confirmed Maslany has indeed landed the lead role. We likely won’t hear who she’s playing for a long time but I’m just…

We’ll update later if official/on-the-record confirmation comes in but what do you think of the news, folks?

Probably.

Not sure how they end the cartoon series though.

I was kinda shocked they actually showed someone getting killed with a lightsaber on rebels

Apparantly there was a Sith Lord image leak but got taken off the internet before anyone could report on it. Anyone have the image? :nerd:

Well apparently it isn't going to be the actual Boba Fett, just somebody who takes on his armor.

I think the whole rumor is dumb.

If you're going to be a Boba Fett movie, I want it to be be the same Boba from the OT and during that time period out collecting bounties using one of the New Zealand actors from the PT. Getting a white dude to play "Boba" when Temuera and Logan are available is whack as hell.

Yeah... I didn't believe that rumor at first but they're saying that the first spin off will involve Bobas family, and every person so far that's been up for a role has been caucasian.

I understand people didn't like seeing young/clone Boba in AOTC, but if this turns out to be true :smh:

Bruh they can let Logan or Temuera play him. I mean its going to make bank cause its a Star Wars movie about Boba Fett. If they get a white actor, I hope its Karl Urban cause he'll keep the helmet on all movie like a pro

Never got the Boba Fett love, he's never done **** in the movies.

FTR I don't want a Fett movie.

Although he didn't do anything in the movies, I understand why people love him. He's one bad-*** looking character that's supposed to be a bad-***, although we never get to see it (I don't care what was written about him in the EU).

this might be the coolest thing ive seen all week

def going to try and get around to making this
