Would I have needed to seen any of the previous Star Wars to get this? I saw the old ones in bits and pieces as a kid, didn't watch any of the most recent flicks with the Ninja Darth cat.

As with anything, it would of course help to watch the first 6 for backstory at the very least.

You don't "have" to view them all, but why jump into any franchise in the 7th installment?

I'd recommend giving the first 6 a viewing, then seeing if the story interests you enough to continue.

I know the gist of the story, similar to how the new Star Trek flicks you don't have to really know about the series to pick up and enjoy, but then again I think those were complete Reboots. The trailer for this new Star Wars seems dope.

You should watch all of them. Star Wars/Star Trek is different in that Star Wars has been trying to tell a complete story. Star Trek has had different characters/ships/timelines, etc.

Correct, Star Trek was a complete reboot, this is the continuation of a story.

I mean, you could start with 7, and go back to the other 6, but you have a full year, might as well knock out the 6 if you can and be up to date come next December.

Would def watch the first six movies before seeing this.

Can throw in the Clone Wars cartoons (not the series but the Adult Swin mini episodes), if you really into it after Episode 2. Mini series was on point imo.

This is a direct sequel to the first six and truth be told if you didn't watch the first ones you won't get why potential scenes or moments are so important or poignant.

You guys are way too excited. That UK trailer was average at best. I shall watch "The Force Awakens" on release day.
