Jeez, saw Carrie Fisher present her mom Debbie Reynolds a SAG career achievement award. Her voice sounds really weird. Very nasally & almost like she suffered a stroke or that away recovering alcoholics/dryg addicts sound after years of abuse (kinda Keith Richards like). I wonder how that's going to sound like for the Star Wars flicks... :rolleyes :smh: :x

George Lucas told Cinema Blend in an interview posted yesterday that when he sold Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012, along with the company came some of his ideas for a new Star Wars trilogy. But it sounds like none of them will be part of the new Star Wars universe of movies that Disney will roll out beginning with the seventh installment, the JJ Abrams-directed Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which is set to hit theaters December 18.

When Cinema Blend asked about some of those ideas, he responded: “Well, the ones that I sold to Disney and everything, they came up to the decision that they didn’t really want to do those. So they made up their own. It’s not the ones that I originally wrote.”

I’m as much of a Star Wars fan as the next guy — being in my 40s it was right in my young-boy wheelhouse when the first pic came out. But let’s be honest: Lucas nearly killed the golden goose with second three installments of the saga and the Ewoks-heavy Return Of The Jedi was already suspect. They were rough enough that it put a lid on 3D-conversion plans for the franchise that otherwise would have made a mint. Then Disney bought Lucas’ Lucasfilm for $4 billion-plus — and apparently told Lucas thanks much, we’ll take it from here.

So should fans be bummed about Lucas being essentially shut out of his own creation or kinda OK with it?

:pimp:

:smh: :smh: still will watch with enjoyment but it won't feel right to me :smh:

This movie is going to murder The Phantom Menace. And then a lot of people that only believe in George will have to change their views on things. Which is exactly what I have been trying to get thru to folks.

Star Wars is bigger than George Lucas. God love him for creating it, but it's bigger than he is. So many brilliant minds in the world, it was completely foolish to think only one man could handle and run the franchise in just his way.

I have a feeling that Abrams is about to do something very special, and the hysteria is going to go full overload when it drops.

We deserved better than Jar Jar Binks, Gungans, corny lines from Liam Neeson of all people, Roger Roger, Viceroy accents from Asia speaking English, flat performances from well trained actors, blue screens, and 8 year olds.

George showed he had the touch still in Ep 3, which is exactly why we deserved better in 1-2.

It will feel right when you see it. I promise you.

Have faith in JJ Abrams

I have no faith in him after Star Trek into Darkness :x :x :x some of the most horrible writing in recent memory that I've watched.

...Viceroy accents from Asia speaking English..

:smh: You know there are a ton of Chinese that are born & raised in Hong Kong that have very thick British accents that have never stepped foot on the British Isles...

There are also a ton of Chinese (Macau) that speak Portuguese that have never stepped foot in a Portuguese speaking country...

I didn't mean that to be funny, I'm speaking on exactly how terrible those accents were, deliberately or otherwise. The Viceroy's were terrible with the way they spoke. And I have no idea why.

Now im wishing they would just start off from scratch. Dont want to see all my childhood heroes killed off

I don't know what you're wanting me to hear?

The Viceroy's sounded TERRIBLE. That guy sounds like a normal guy talking.

While I'm not as happy as most people are about George not being involved in SW anymore, I can't say that Ep. VII is my most anticipated movie of all time.

I wish someone would take the WWE away from Vince though as I think of him being in the same boat as George

Am I reading this right, or did you forget a word? Is, or Isn't your most anticipated movie of all time? :nerd:

CP you are right that Star Wars is bigger than Lucas at this point and I am extremely excited to see what fresh minds can come up with. Nobody knows exactly how much of Lucas's story treatments are going to be used, and I doubt George is in touch with the staff of TFA ("creative consultant" is a BS honorary title), so there's no way he would know how much they've used based off of that teaser. Kathleen Kennedy is close to George (they go way back) and was Lucas's pick to run things after the sale to Disney. I doubt she would disrespect George and throw out his treatments. Lucas's fingerprints will definitely be all over this movie, we'll just never know how much.

George sold the Wars because he was ready to step back and focus on other things. It's foolish to think he's involved at all with this movie. He himself said he's never been able to experience Star Wars so he will finally get to feel what we have all felt for years.

I'm fully expecting this movie to be amazing and be up there with Avatar.

Oh I don't think they would "disrespect" him either, just sort of......focus on a different angle. Something that JJ wants, or one of the other writers, or them as a unit, etc. By no means do I think they wadded up his piece of paper and launched it into the trash, they just chose a different way to go is all. And as you know, that's what I've always wanted.

I get the angle George went with. He's a kids guy. I don't "hate" him or anything for that, hell that's a great trait to have an attachment to kids and what not. Kids are awesome, and maybe for his pursuit, kids are money. Ask any parent, if there is something that makes a kid happy, a parent is gonna try and get it for them. That includes movies. Family events, etc are hard to come by these days, but kid movies rake in tons of dough because it's a simple thing.

George got much much much softer with Jedi with the ewoks, we all saw it. And when he came for the prequels, he made the business decision to really bring in the children's angle. Hell, as you know, with Maul he said give me the scariest, meanest lookin thing you can give me, saw it, then said ok, give me the second scariest. He tried to appease multiple generations I think. Maul for the hardcores. Anakin/Jar Jar for the kids. Padme for the girls. I get it, I truly do. But that hurt the story. That is my hugest, and biggest gripe. He let the story suffer, to try and involve everyone for the franchise.

His call, his right, surely, but no one can argue the story was affected because of all that. And that is what bothers me the most on the prequels. All 3 films could/should have had the tone of Empire and Revenge. It would have been an AMAZING trilogy had he gone that route. He chose not to.

JJ will make it "kid friendly" I'm sure, but I also am sure he will darken it much much more than George ever wanted to, and I suspect that may be what he means when he says they didn't use his story. We'll see.

But agreed, it will be EPIC. :pimp:
