I just got done watching the original trilogy, then I started watching the prequel trilogy and Christensen and Jar Jar binks are honestly my biggest gripes with the prequels. Christensen just sounds like a whiny little baby through episode 2 and 3.

Is this your first time watching them? After Episode I, I swore I'd never wait in line to buy movie tickets ever again, by the time Episode III came out in theaters, it was a struggle to even make it into theaters, yet somehow a sense of nostalgia for my childhood led me to buy the movies on dvd and again on Blu, I guess I'm a sucker for it, and watching them again almost 10 years after the last one, they weren't as terrible as I made them out to be, nor were the originals all as great as I thought they were when I was a kid.

That being said, I'm excited for December, I didn't want to get excited, I was just going to go in with no expectations, but damn if the teaser didn't make me want to know more about the settings and characters.

No I've seen them in theaters originally I just thought I'd check them out again for nostalgic purposes. It's crazy how the OG trilogy held up over time to the prequels.

So it's confirmed that the Rogue One spinoff coming out next year will be about a group of rebels stealing the Death Star plans. The teaser is out but it's recorded cell phone quality.

You could still post it

Also what's the no more than 4 sentence answer to "what's the old republic"?

I'm watching Billy Dee's panel right now and the questions are so damn cringeworthy. The guy looks miserable there also

Oooh, so Boba Fett can still still be the main "villain" trying to stop them, huh? Perfect way to show where "no disintegrations" originated from.

Government that oversaw the planets that came together as the republic, if the books/games are still to be considered canon, it lasted 25,000 years. Short answer, government that ruled for a LONG time before the Palpatine manipulated things to take over as Emperor.

Canon states the Galactic republic was established about 1000 years before the Clone Wars and ends when Palpatine takes over and turns it into the Galactic Empire.

So the "Old Republic" is a period of around 1000 years.

Where all planets with intelligent life part of the republic or did they pick and choose?

What were the benefits/cost of being with the republic?

After the death star got blown up in Return did they set up a new republic?

The trailer says "For more than a thousand generations the Jedi Knights were guardians of peace in the old republic" Those are some pretty short generations then.

On Wookiepedia, it states the Galactic Republic was also known referred to as the Old republic. I guess the Old Republic can refer to the period before the Galactic Republic, but I don't think there's much canonical info on that with what we have. Since the old EU is all legends know, all that info is pretty much useless.

SUPER complicated to explain in a short response, basically it seems like they make it up as they go along and for story purposes. From what the movies have shown it's a pretty loose affiliation with member worlds maintaining a great deal of autonomy, and their own defense forms. The Jedi were sent in for special circumstances, but the Republic didn't maintain an army or anything like that. The Core Worlds (those closest to Couruscant) had closer/better relationships than those out in the Outer Rim where gangs basically ran things how they wanted no matter what the Republic said as far as laws.

Stop explaining anything to him. Dude runs his mouth about Star Wars in every thread then comes in here askin questions.

He thought he knew enough to run his mouth tho. :rolleyes

I mean if you've seen the movies its pretty obvious that not everyone was in the Republic.

There's a reason Republic credits weren't acceptable payment on Tantooine

Thanks @mints

Not joining your circle jerk over George Lucas is running my mouth about Star Wars in "every thread". Keep telling yourself that.

I watched the movies and I only liked 1. Thats all I need to know. But they got the right talents this time around, like stealing the Star Trek director, the screenwriter to the only good one, and the fact that its Disney. So Im interested.

No offense but you only liking one of those movies says more about your taste in cinema than it does about the quality of the films.

He also thinks that SW is a rip off of Star Trek, cuz George said it was influence......like 2 years ago, at a Star Trek function.

Even tho I showed him proof that Trek only kicked into action AFTER Star Wars blew up.

When Star Trek blew up is irrelevant to whether or not its a rip off of Star Trek, which your mancrush already stated it is. I also stated he pasted ideas from Jack Kirby, which is also the truth.

No offense but you only liking one of those movies says more about your taste in cinema than it does about the quality of the films.

Doesnt change my right to be curious about the new films, since I do think they look good.

Bless his heart tho runnin his mouth about stuff he knows absolutely nothin about. Then comin in here lookin for answers, so he can watch the 7th installment, and still not know or understand what he's seein.

Truth is sunshine, there's WAY too much history out there, both active and inactive, across multiple forms of media for you to get short answers to your questions and still get everything. I've devoured tons of this franchise for 25+ years and still don't know all the details.

Best bet is to watch all 6 films, Clone Wars cartoon, the new Rebels cartoon, and the new books that are out. Then you're ready for 7.

Even having knowledge of the EU is beneficial I think because certain aspects of it brought into canon I think.
