It's crazy but that lightsaber will be over 50 years old by the time Finn ignites it in that scene. Blade's looking a bit rough too.

I absolutely love that "rough" saber look. Matches the whole "worn-in, aged" future aesthetic that the Star Wars universe is supposed to have.

The prequels looked too "clean".

Saying the prequels looked "too clean" is a generalization.

When we start Ep. 1 the galaxy isn't in conflict, there hasn't been a galactic war yet. The places you see in those movies are supposed to be clean. You expect the capital of Naboo where the Queen resides to look dirty and worn in? You expect the Coruscant, the capital of the Galactic Republic, home to the senate building and the Jedi Temple to look aged? What about in the original trilogy? Did the Star Destroyers not look immaculate? Did the Death Star not look immaculate? What about the Tantive IV? Cloud City?

In all six movies, the aesthetic all depends on location (obviously). Mustafar sure didn't look too clean. Tatooine didn't look too clean. Neither did Kashyyyk or Geonosis. Heck even when they went to the underworld of Coruscant, that looked worn in.

You have to remember that during the time of the originals, war had spread throughout the galaxy, so if certain elements didn't look "clean" was because that's what war does. Check out europe before and immediately after WWII.

Put what you're watching into context and you'll understand the movies better .

War had been over for 18 years when ep IV came to be. The Clone Wars were over, minus a couple "battles" here and there, the galaxy was not war torn or anything.

I agree with you on the pristine looks of some areas tho, Tantive, Death Star, etc were certainly very clean. The technology itself wasn't, that might have been a little more what he meant. The OG's had a completely different filming, hence a "worn" look to them, even with the pristine settings. Whereas the prequels had very different tech, and were much much "cleaner"

JJ himself is someone that might attempt to make this look more gritty, even in pristine settings. If that makes any sense.

good points. I understand what im watching just fine

I cant put my finger on it but i think the "clean" look comes from the use of CGI.

I feel like the DIY, practical effects and 35mm film contribute to the worn look i identify Star Wars with.

The Battle of Jakku took place place in the aftermath of the Rebel victory in the Battle of Endor, and will be available as free DLC for those who buy Star Wars Battlefront. In the artwork below, a Star Destroyer has crash landed, and from the belly of this battle-scarred metal giant, a myriad of Imperial ground troops have evacuated and engaged with Rebel troops, also strangers to this desert planet.

"There’s a David and Goliath theme to this," says DICE Concept Artist Anton Grandert. "The epic, huge super structures of the Star Destroyers contrast against the tiny but brave Rebel soldiers fighting the Imperial forces. We wanted to portray a battle completely surrounding you, in every direction. Debris is falling from the sky, telling the story of battles above. On the surface of the planet you can see ground troops as well as X-wings, all taking part of the fight."

There has been loose speculation that the trailer will come today.

I know next friday is Force Friday but dudes are saying Disney seems to want to focus solely on the toys that day

Wow. Just finished reading Darth Vader comics 1-8 :pimp: If you're interested in reading them first person to PM me can have my digital codes. Not sure if they can only be used once or not.

Edit: They are one use only.

I really like this series so far. And I really love all of the cover art they've chosen too.

The immortal cyborgs blew my mind when I was reading last night. They are not of the force though!

Has there been any promo photos for a BB-8 toy figure? I want one :nerd:

I think as of now all that is being released next Friday in terms of BB-8 is that remote controlled version (Target exclusive) and the Black Series 6-inch figure of Rey that comes with BB-8. Haven't seen any photos other than what was in the Hasbro look book though.
