The hate for Lucas isn't just about the quality of the prequels, but how he's handled the original trilogy and all his special editions, DVDs, changes, etc. He seemed to be tragically out of touch with his fans for years, and that's largely what people were angry about.

My hate for Lucas was him blocking further Star Wars films all these years and then his handling of the prequels. We should already have been on like picture 10 or something. But today, I am so very thankful for him passing control over and allowing this franchise to flourish and show the rest of the world what other stories are out there.

Good news! I'm eager to see the next trilogy.

Not to derail the thread with wild speculation on a tangent, but if Disney makes enough money from this deal over the next 10 years, can't you see them making the ultimate power move and scooping up DC Comics? Imagine that...

Considering that Warner Bros. owns DC, no.

The franchise was already ruined with the last 3 episodes. Maybe Disney can improve and make some better flicks but I'm not all that interested yet.

Read the books. Heir to the Empire. Start right there. Then call me back. You'll be interested IMMEDIATELY.
I'm not saying there isn't good material. I'm talking about it being translated in to film. In the general sense, the story of the last 3 wasn't bad since if you told anyone that it'd be about how Darth Vader became Darth Vader everyone would be interested but the acting was bad, dialogue was bleh, pacing, it had Jar Jar Binks in it, etc.

Not being pessimistic about Disney and how they'd handle it but right now I'm not interested in the prospect of more SW films and more interested in some more Indy flicks.

Lucas did all that Jar Jar stuff for the kids, and he wrote a lot of that crap. The books don't have that fluff, they are deep, tactical, fully thought out, fleshed out, they are incredible and would easily translate. It "could" be dark, and mysterious and fresh compared to what Lucas did. Actual writers can work these movies without his stupid kid friendly throw ins.

Xtap, too soon on the unaltered Blu Rays, sure we"'ll hear more soon enough. Star Wars has a monthly magazine that I know will be full of info in late November.

Amen to Sith vs Jedi war!

Wow, Disney will profit big from this deal.
But more Star Wars movies? I think it should've been finished after the first 3 back in the day...

Looks like the famous Fox opening is now history. Damn, it's the only thing from rupert murdoch I liked. Oh well. Indiana Jones, Willow, Red Tails, and Howard the Duck are also included in the deal however Paramount has a controlling distribution interest in Indiana Jones.

I like Disney getting this. Especially since they let Pixar & the Marvel crew do their thing...Great president from them.

I'm glad Kathleen Kennedy will lead Lucasfilm. It looks like they already have extensive treatments for [Star Wars] seven, eight, and nine. Damn. That's cool. Disney also plans on Star Wars movies every 3 years or so. I'm down with that as long as their quality flicks which I think they've proven with the Marvel movies so far. It's also being reported Lucas will not be writing the new scripts (phew), just the treatments.

Here's also a vid from Lucas & Kennedy talking about the deal & the future projects.

^ Not necessarily. I don't know what the internal ownership structure is within LucasFilm, but I doubt Lucas owns a 100% stake in the company.

Anyway...
So much for Episode VII coming from the expanded-universe?

Star Wars 7 Plot Will Be "an Original Story," Says Lucasfilm Source

Welp. There goes the excitement.

In other words, forget the Star Wars novels. Forget the graphic novels. Forget everything you think you know about what happens to Luke Skywalker. According to my sources, Episode 7 will literally be nothing you've ever seen or read before from the Star Wars universe.

Settle down. They paid 4 billion dollars, you think they are going to stop at 3 movies?

They can make movies every other year til the end of time. At some point, they will tap into the novels, games, comics, all of it. They own everything. It's no longer one man's vision, we don't need to rely on one 70 year old man, they can give it to writers/directors that may not even be born yet. This can go on for decades man, stop thinking it's 3 movies and over. Star Wars 19 will be in theatres in 2030 in no time.

:smh: not sure where you guys get your info or how you make assumptions on what you think you know. Prior to the sale, Lucas was sole owner of LucasFilm. Even before the sale was being thought about, Lucas was appointing Kennedy as Chair so he could basically retire. I honestly think LucasFilm will have the same autonomy that Pixar's had. Relax with all the assumptions...There is precident under Disney...

Damn I'm glad you guys don't run businesses...

yeah, Im not sure why people think Disney will ruin the franchise. They basically are letting them do their own thing, to an extent. Its just now we will actually get some star wars movies, because even after george retired, it was still up in the air

Lucas couldn't have picked a better person to steward LucasFilm then Kennedy. Her resume is impeccable. She started out working as Spielberg's secretary & worked her way up in the industry.

The list of early films she's produced include Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Poltergeist, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Gremlins, The Color Purple, Back To The Future, & Empire of the Sun. Some of the more recent are The Sixth Sense and the Bourne movies.

Everything is going to be fine...
