Official Houston Rockets 2013 Offseason Thread: Welcome D12 to Houston!

Man I hope Asik can come to terms with backing up Dwight. As good as he was as a starter, he would be that much better with the bench going up against other benches.

I'd also rather Lin become a 15/8 guy than get traded, cause Parsons would be so hurt

I know Asik was really good for you guys last year, but do you really think it's worth it to keep him?  (Honest question)

Seems to me he won't be able to play with Dwight and it could be a waste of value when you do have other holes on the team.  He would command pretty strong trade value on the market.

forgot all about cf....woooooo

I've been on thedreamshake for a bit now. pretty good site to read once in a while.

Rockets have all the leverage. They like Asik and his contract isn't bad. He has a lot of value in this league so they are not going to trade him for pennies on the dollar. Plus having a legit backup C allows you to be so much more flexible with your lineup (playing both at the same time, swapping them, etc).

They will trade him for sure if they get what they want (PG, PF) but if not, it's not a big deal.

Rockets SL games blacked out in Houston :smh: :smh:

I noticed I can watch/record the second time they replay it tho, ill watch it tomorrow I guess lol.

Yeah I guess that's what I meant.  Great trade piece to get you one of those two pieces.

i'm guessing they already tried to trade Lin out of Houston, no surprised at all if Lin won't be in Houston next season

Our jerseys suck. I'd love for us to go back to the yellow/red joints from the 90's

And I've brought this up on twitter but Morey is going to hold onto to Asik until the right deal comes up. Let's say Love or Alridge become available, Asik would be a great asset to have. Obviously you would need more than Asik but it's a great starting piece to a deal. This is wishful thinking of course but I feel like if come the trade deadline and Portland or Minny isn't in contention for the playoffs they might start to see the writing on the wall and become open to trade talks.

While we have Asik our defense should be way better than last year's, 48 minutes of Asik and Howard :smokin

I still can't believe we got Howard. I like that we can go small with a lineup of Lin/Harden/Garcia/Parsons/Howard, but also hit them with a lineup of Lin/Harden/Parsons/Howard/Asik to match with a Memphis type team. We are so versatile, it's not even funny. Hopefully our guys can develop chemistry early on, but it'll be fun to watch this team. I think last year we overachieved, and this year, I'm hoping we reach the conference Finals at least. It would be amazing to see the rockets get another championship banner again

It's good to know this...

Dwight Howard: Asik is a big piece to a championship

Dwight Howard might not have replaced Daryl Morey as Rockets general manager, despite Morey’s claim that Howard and James Harden had demoted him to their assistant, but Howard did have strong feelings about the Rockets keeping the Rockets’ previous starting center, Omer Asik.

Asik had told the Rockets he wanted to be traded, rather than to return to the backup role he had with the Bulls. Morey has said he does not intend to trade Asik.

“Omer might not really see the total big picture right now and I totally understand,” Howard said. “He’s a young guy and he wants to really be respected. I would tell him when I see him, ‘You’ve done a great job on this team. I’m going to help you and this team get better.’ He’s a big piece to us winning a championship if we’re going to make that run. Him and Jeremy Lin will be very good playing with me. I’m going to do whatever I can to make those guys’ lives better. I realize how much they mean to this team.”

Daryl Morey on Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin: ‘They’re going to be here’

Rockets general manager Daryl Morey has been steadfast in his insistence that he is not looking to deal guard Jeremy Lin and center Omer Asik in the wake of signing Dwight Howard. He has cited Lin’s ability as an attacking guard as a good fit with Howard. He has talked about the value of Asik’s defense off the bench.

On Saturday, he added another reason.

“The reality is James (Harden) and Dwight (Howard) want to play with Jeremy and Omer,” Morey said. “I’ve been kicked down to assistant GM. They’re going to be here.”

With Howard to supplant Asik as his starting center, Morey was more specific about what Asik can bring.

“When we didn’t have Omer out there last year, we sucked,” Morey said. “I mean, we were terrible. That was where we lost games. When we had Omer out there, we were a top 10 defensive team. Now we have a defensive player of the year and Omer. I mean that position is so important if you’re going to have a solid defense. Now we have two of the best in the league. I’m very excited.”

Let's get it :pimp:

As someone who has watched every Knicks game Lin played in, Lin will thrive with d12. Reason why he had as many TOs last year was because Asik can't catch and finish lobs... Look how jlin worked the p&r with Chandler in NY... I predict a 10 pts and 9 asts year for him if he gets his fair share of ball handling duties... Scoring will prolly drop due to increased touches for Dwight. Not a lotta Rockets fans are sold on Lin or appreciative of him, but we wouldn't have made the playoffs last year without him... Same with Asik.
