Hello ALL,

After watching the CROSSFIT games for the past 2 years I'm motivated to challenge myself to at least be able to do those heats.

ANY one out here into Crossfit?

Have any suggestions for some one looking to start this?

(I'm talking about pure beginner here)

just find a crossfit gym and walk in. find out who runs the gym and be prepared to get your *** kicked. I did it for about 6 months last year and ended up being in the best shape of my life. i thought i was in great shape beforehand, too. from my experience, the people who crossfit are very welcoming and helpful to people of every fitness level. it's tough, but the rewards are worth it.

just don't become one of those crossfit elitist dbags... they're worse than the meatheads at your standard gym.

First thing you need to do is buy an old jeep or FJ Cruiser.

Lol, why a Jeep or FJ Cruiser?

Unfortunately for me the closest one to me is like 25 miles away, but I'm going to work this out. Got to reach my goals. I terrified about getting my chubby butt whooped in the workout, but I seriously believe it'll be worth it. Why did you stop?

LOL......When I saw this thread I thought da ****** thread went to some dudes head and looking for "CROSSFIT" help.

Yelp some local Crossfit gyms. Be prepared to pay, it's expensive. They push you, but it gets your *** in shape. Be prepared to work out your whole body too

Crossfit is an amazing workout. Like many have said, be prepared to pay about $150-200+ a month to work out in a box.

If you can't afford it there are many sites that post WOD's (Workout of the Day). Equipment is minimal, and you can always improvise.

Be prepared to get your *** kicked, it'll kick your cardio to a whole 'nother level. I do Crossfit about three times a week, my friend is a HS Football coach so we do our workouts there. That being said, it will get you fit, but won't bulk you up if that is what you are looking for. I still do traditional weight training on top of Crossfit.

Don't be a douche bag, one of my friends works out in a crossfit gym, and that's all he talks about :rolleyes:rolleyes:rolleyes

"Crossfit this... Paleo that... WOD this... Crossfit is awesome... Paleo bro...", Like a frat boy on steroids.

I got an FJ long before I started doing my own WOD's ... :frown:

I quit going just due to the price and schedule changes... by "best shape of my life" i meant physique wise. but i'll probably do it again before the summer because I was shredded.

lets say you into p90x or insanity, could you easily adapt or keep up on crossfit training? reason why i asked is cos i got a 39.99 deal from living social i have yet to use..

just find a local box and sign up. they usually have a free intro session for you to try out (probably will consist of pushups, pullups, air squats)

there usually are living social/amazon deals/groupon for a month membership that you can search for.

i only did crossfit for about a month on a groupon deal. paid $30 for a months worth of sessions, and although i felt i was in decent shape before hand, i truly felt the fittest in my life after that month, and that wasn't even scratching the surface of it. even though i've stopped, i still try to incorporate some WOD's in my workout routines.

be prepared to spend $150-200 a month, though. the people you encounter are most likely going to be very welcoming. they emphasize a family/community atmosphere and are very encouraging.

remember, everything is scalable to your strength. don't do anything you're not comfortable doing - that's how you get hurt.

a lot of my good friends still do it, and they love it. hope this helps.

Just finished On-ramp and next week I start regular classes, endurance is what kills me. I always lifted but doing cross fit was a total change, i'll always be the first one off the weights but doing 40 air squats after I would be the 3rd one finish. Its a nice change of pace to my basic program plus the chicks that go there.. :wow: . As some as said it does get expensive but some gyms work with you on payment plans. Also burpees aint no joke, I hate them

been going the past year, and even still....after every WOD you're still hurtin! In a good way!  The main thing I like about crossfit is that its a functional workout.  Meaning all the moves you do in crossfit, it preps you for everyday lifestyle....snowboarding, biking, running, even moving stuff around the house.  You use proper techniques and flexability and mobility improve like crazy.  For newbs, it looks intimidating as hell...but like the above poster said...EVERYTHING can be scaled down.  Last night, I had a mother/son team come in and it was awesome.  Seeing a 50+ mom work her *** off (1st timer), and having a bunch of us pull for her was very inspiring.

Love everything about it, just hate the douchebags wearing Vibram FiveFingers, always shirtless, and talking Paleo this/that....ANNOYING!

lol @ this spot on assessment

dont be that guy

--might add wranglers to that car list

--just do insanity and some WODs as others have mentioned

Bold make you sound like a hater how is that being a douche cause somebody wants to talk about what they are into now? I hope its more to the story than that.

From my experience, it's basically a subliminal message saying "I'm in shape and you're not tubby"

Well if you in shape they couldn't use that against you could they? I guess but I don't see how cats get irked at things like this. If somebody called me tubby and I was I got to get in shape or keep hearing tubby. Thats how I look at it but I know everybody doesn't if I was in shape I'd just be like whatever.

Just do regular lifts but kip on everything

And make sure you tell everyone you crossfit. Let them know they're inferior
