Official Air Max 97 Thread

Something triggered the sweep, I doubt the evolution of social media has anything to do with it.

So I would say that social media is one of numerous reasons for the current shoe game. For example, how did you hear about this QS release?...eventually, the info was collected through the use of forums (e.g. NikeTalk), websites, blogs, tweet, instagrams, etc. Now, imagine not only you are getting this info but also in a global scale. These communication channels can be rolled up as social media. It's not like back then where we got our info from either word of mouth from FNL/FL/FTA/etc., forums, and/or Eastbay magazines.

Nothing? All I saw on IG for the past 3 days leading up to thenrelease was this sneaker. All day yesterday everyone was posting them. Social media most certainly had an impact on those that were either on the fence about these or those that didn't even know they were releasing.

There are A LOT of easily influenced people out there especially the younger kids who are on social media all day.

Another factor is that nobody really had a smart phone in 2008. The fact that we have access to all this information and it's right in our pocket def had something to do with it.

I think the fact that they released in the EU early in the year and they had a limited release at certain US boutiques mad the demand go up. You know people gotta have what they can't. You know the sneaker celebs and IG ****** gotta post pics to stunt and shame others. I copped these the last retro at the outlets for 50 bucks. Brought the recent AM1 for 40 bucks last time too. Times change. Nike is trying to avoid these retros from going discount stores. They are applying the hype machine of yeezys and ultra boost to their runners and retros to compete with the success of the tubular and ultra boost
I remember walking into the Factory a few years back and almost picking up a pair for way below 160 (don't remember the price)...but I left them alone because they didn't fit right. Times have definitely changed.

I know they've released countless times since '97, but it's the first time I can finally afford them. What a thing of beauty! Glad I went to my local Footlocker early - they only had one pair for each sizes.

Also hi. Long time lurker, first-time poster here.

Threw on asap

It's crazy how Air Max are selling out. I copped Air Max 1 OG white/red in 2009 from WishAtl days after they released. Tried this year epic fail. And now resell 350 & up. Smh
Got the white/blue AM1s from Sneaker.st for like $75 back in 2010.  Would be great if they still had sites like that and SneakerPost selling shoes for well under retail.

To piggy back on this I scooped the AM1 OG red and 2010 OG Blue both for 50 when they just sat on the shelves... even got the silver bullets that came out a year or so ago and they just sat on the shelves... I honestly am glad to just see the runners finally get the shine the deserve ... always a clean look that can be pulled off

Social media can't have that type of power lol.
what do you mean? everyone is connected to social media in some way or another whether its twitter, facebook,ig,group chats or internet forums. social media is basically the word of mouth times a million.
