Im sickened to go on youtube and watch a fellow NT post his sneaker collection. I don't know it sickens me too see how materialistic our youth has got  in the span of a decade. watching videos of said NT and other children like him infuriates me. By using deductive reasoning, I as a logical  human being, can make the assessment that my tax money is going towards hooligans and not helping people that need it. Thoughts about poor people buying commodities they cannot trully afford?

to keep up with the next man and appear to be living that lifestyle

I have to agree.

I have a cousin (haven't talked to him in a while) that was living paycheck to paycheck, but drove a Escalade (back when they were popular).
I have a cousin that drives a SRT Jeep, but only has a seasonal job. When he's not working, he's begging family for money.

Why not buy something that you can afford?

Why is it necessary to one-up everyone?

Its a materialistic society we live in where self worth is judged by wealth.

Females want the baller .

Dudes wanna be that dude in the crew.

its there problem, let them spend their limited income on what makes them happy

It's called keeping up with the joneses. It's been this way for the past 60 years, and will continue to be this way.

not when my  hard earned money is being used for these cockroaches that abuse the system.

You probally arnt old enough to have a job son. Come back hen you enter the workforce.

Yeah its sad some people value sneakers, clothes, foreign cars over rent, food, independence, and quality of life.

not when my  hard earned money is being used for these cockroaches that abuse the system.
easy with that condescending tone. These system abusing sneakerheads probably account for less than 1% of those in poverty. The overwhelming majority of those in poverty don't own a single pair of jordans.

Isn't that the American dream? Spend money that you don't have and then cry when your house forecloses/ your car is repo-ed/ collection agencies start calling

You gotta love that part of our culture.. you want what you can't have.. so you get it anyway

Yet your sig contains sneakers that you want. Get off your high horse OP

Do you have anything besides anecdotal evidence that shows the youth have been more materialistic? I remember kids when I was growing up begging for the newest toys, one upping each other with new shoes and clothes, and the constant trends and fads that we threw money at. Adults living in suburbia keeping up with the joneses and buying a new car when they can't afford it... buying a McMansion that's wildly unnecessary, taking trips, buying clothes, jewelry, etc., all on credit cards and not being able to afford it. Materialism has been a part of our culture for awhile, I don't see this massive shift you seem to be describing. The only difference is now we have the internet so we can be exposed to more that otherwise we might not know about.

Your complaints seem to be in two different directions. One part talks about people spending money they don't have, and the other is about your tax money going to "cockroaches". If you're talking about welfare abuse, then it's certainly an issue, but talk to me about corporate welfare and I hope you call those major industries "cockroaches" as well.

And my tax money goes to wars overseas that I don't support, a broken war on drugs that do more harm than good, corporate welfare, and various other things I don't support or want to fund

I refer to a quote from Jon Stewart "To the people who are upset about their hard-earned tax money going to things they don't like, Welcome to the ****ing club"

i have a penchant for not spending money (on luxury goods) and i really wish everyone started riding bikes in my city like in amsterdam. Every time i see someone stunting, its just an obvious cry for attention and a sign of insecurity. There are countries out there where you can get laughed at if you're pushing a Ferrari (i.e. Denmark) - which is something americans would not be able to comprehend. I aint eem mad though, if you just came into some money and you're "livin life" as they say, then do you. But i agree with OP that most of this ostentatious bs is just a squandering of resources especially since so many ppl live in poverty.

this video, fraydog 213 and that black guy made me want to report them to certain institutions which give money to the needy.
