Why is Jerry Rice the GOAT?

I know NT loves Wide Reciever debates and I figured this was thread worthy. If not so be it.

Is Jerry Rice still the GOAT? If so why?

Someone needs to school me because I wasn't old enough to watch him play in his prime. The question I'm pretty much asking is why is he considered to be better than Moss and Calvin. Calvin is young and it's still early in his career so I'll focus on Moss more even though we know where Calvin is headed.

Is it the stats that make the final decision? Why was he so dominant and what made him more dominant than Randy. I always assumed it was his Route running, sure handeness, ability to go over the middle, and YAC ability.

Randy Moss though just ran straight pass entire defenses, abused DB's no matter how many were stuck to him like glue, and was a TD machine.

The GOAT arguments always confused because I can never tell if either skill or stats hold more weight. So I'm looking for some insight on why the consensus has been Jerry is the best ever.

I feel that having 2 HOF QB's should play a role as well. Moss has not only played
5 years less but has had many wasted years due to terrible QB's. But once he got Brady he shatters the TD record. And he's still top 10 in every category. So how much should stats matter and was Moss more talented.

Focusing on talent is often ignored by numbers I feel. Talent doesn't necessarily always mean a million achievements. Fitzgerald for example could still be considered the best currently but he's forgotten due to obvious reasons. Calvin is the Moss of the next generation. I think we can all agree he'll end up being the GOAT when it's all said and done? Although I will say that I need to see another year or two of him continuing to dominate to say he's better than Moss in his prime.

To conclude I'm pretty much asking who's the most talented, Rice, Moss, or CJ. Ive witnessed Moss and CJ. If its Rice, why? Personally Idc about numbers, they all have good ones for different reasons. Talent is what will matter in my decision.

Jerry Rice definitely wasn't the most talented guy. I mean, he only caught 92 passes, at age 40, from Rich Gannon.

Definitely still the greatest. His game was flawless. His work ethic is what set him apart. His routes were textbook and masterful. He had very good hands and above average athleticism that was supplemented greatly because of how precise his game and route running was. And after all this, he was still one of the smartest football players around. He just knew the game. How it worked and how others worked to use it all to his advantage. Add it all up and it was near impossible to pinpoint a weakness.

Pretty much in this case. Stats aren't everything but when you are so far ahead in many categories it typically locks it down.

Still, you could say Jim Brown, etc are "GOAT"

But in Rice's case these are some of his leader lists:

Receptions, Career
1,549 - Jerry Rice
1,222 - Tony Gonzalez
1,102 - Marvin Harrison

Receiving Yards, Career
22,895 - Jerry Rice
15,934 - Terrell Owens
15,208 - Isaac Bruce

Receiving Touchdowns, Career
197 - Jerry Rice
155 - Randy Moss
153 - Terrell Owens

Post Season Receiving Yards, Career
2,245 - Jerry Rice
1,315 - Michael Irvin
1,289 - Cliff Branch

Post Season Receiving Touchdowns, Career
22 - Jerry Rice
12 - John Stallworth
10 - 4 others

Post Season Receptions, Career
151 - Jerry Rice
88 - Hines Ward
87 - Michael Irvin

:smh:

I personally have him 3rd behind Greg Jennings and Jordy Nelson

Interesting, your reasoning?

Jerry Rice definitely wasn't the most talented guy. I mean, he only caught 92 passes, at age 40, from Rich Gannon.

I sense the sarcasm. Again I've never seen him play. I wouldn't doubt Wes Welker does the same thing.

Great and well worded post. Gave me a perspective I didn't have. Moss was definitely soft and relied heavily on athleticism.

OP, were you born before or after 1995?

91, I was old enough to catch the tail end of his career with the Raiders.

Nothing classic about it. I or any other Packer fan never made that comment. You know this, you've been told this, but you choose to ignore it and run away with it because you like to amuse yourself.

How much do you think having Montana, Young, even Gannon at the end have a role with his success. And how much should it play a role.

We know guys like S4L over here credit all of Jennings and Jordys success to Rodgers.

Really? How long have you been watching football? Definitely a shot.

C'mon. I wouldn't expect someone born in 1991 to be able to fully grasp Jerry's greatness. I mean, Jerry won his third Super Bowl when OP was only like 4 years old...Probably 3 1/2.

Really? How old are you and when did you start watching? Not a shot, just genuinely curious.

I'm 21, like I said in my other post I caught the end of his career with the Raiders but not his prime or his decline from his prime. I remember seeing him in a niners jersey but don't remember anything he did. I have watched football, sports in general my entire life. I remember willingly watching the Packers win the SB in 96 with my dad even though I wasn't old enough to remember what actually happened. All I have is in image in my head being on my couch watching it.
