Why is Jerry Rice the GOAT?

He did this throughout his entire career. Never took time off. His work ethic is unmatched.

I remember watching 49er Total Access back when we had Singletary and he had Jerry Rice talk to the team for some motivation. Afterwards, Jerry told the team that even though he's 20 years older than anyone on the team he'd still outrun every single of them easily. Nobody stepped up.

For me what always defined a "GOAT" was the ability to play at a high level even when your skills began to diminish and you had to re-invent yourself and you still managed to be successful.
The Jerry Rice's and Michael Jordan's embody this concept.
Jerry Rice is the GOAT because when he was 40 and on his last legs he was still a force in the NFL.
Randy Moss is only a situational deep threat and can still run a 4.4. CJ and Moss are the most talented WR's we have seen in the NFL period but what difference does that make if when you are in your mid-thirties you are nothing more than a situational deep threat or a redzone target (My projection for CJ if he does not adjust to his diminishing skills as he ages)
TO had the ability to be in the GOAT class but he never became a consistent catcher of the football and has wore out his welcome in the league.

On point. :pimp:

The game has changed so much over the years. The schemes, the players, the positions..I don't think there's a wr in the game that even has a chance to top Jerry's stats.
Corners ain't what they used to be, hell coverages n coaches ain't what they use to be. Put prime Jerry in now...i dont think you would get the same outcome.

I agree that Green has potential to be the next big thing at WR.

I hope so too. He was sick nasty at UGA and you just knew he was about to stunt in the NFL.

Just hope he leaves the damn bengals. :smh:

Yeah, it would be even better numbers in this era. That's insane

Those Rice stats just don't make any sense(sarcasm). And look at the postseason receptions not even Marvin Harrison is up there WOW

Randy Moss> Jerry Rice come at me bros

you need to at least say why you feel that way, boss
Well I had to amend it really quick but Prime Randy> Prime Jerry. The stats are the stats, and they will always say what they say, but Football is one of those sports where they dont really tell the whole story, things like double coverages and targets are heavy factors. I give the edge to Randy because of his glaring physical advantages over Rice and IMO he changed the way defense was played forever. Never did I see safties drop as far back as when I watched Randy Moss games. No one bumped Randy Moss, he would easily run by you, and playing him one on one wasnt even an option cause of his size and jumping ability.

If you bring the longevity into consideration which is what this thread is really about, then as it stands Jerry Rice is obviously the GOAT but when its all said and done Aaron Rodgers will be. Hes QB Jesus.

OP, no disrespect but you being just 21 should have prevented you from creating this thread.

If Moss played with Montana & Young his whole career he would be GOAT

Well, I guess I can make the argument that Shaq was a greater basketball player than Michael Jordan because Shaq was 7'1" and such a dominant physical force for a few seasons that they made a rule change specifically because of him (unheard of in the modern era).

Dunno why all the randy talk. Dude was a improviser on his routes, Break them off n go deep. Rice was crisp same spot some cut repetitive routine perfection.. Every single time! Ain't nobody like that! You might need to get ahold of some footage. Get one of his carrer high games n then you might understand. Peyton is the same type of player Rice was just a different position. You can't stop that.

Randy would've probably would've been on the way to be the GOAT while he was with the Pats....but then he opened his mouth. The hoodie don't play and he experienced it first hand.

Rice is still the GOAT in my eyes. ill bet my last dollar that OP wasn't eem born at his prime.

A+ rebuttal, not being sarcastic at all. I did the Zo Mourning gif in real life. Repped you for that one. The gap between Shaq and Jordan is much larger than Rice Moss but I do see your point and have accepted it.
