Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain | A Hideo Kojima Game

Right, cause not liking something means we'really trash at it, right? Look, I've been getting B-S rankings in every mission and have beaten the main part of the game (been sick and stuck at home the past few days, don't judge ). The vast majority of the missions don't move the story along, which is why people are saying there's a lot of filler. Pretty much every mission feels like a chore. Also, where are the epic boss battles????

I'm not saying it's trash. Overall it's a decent game, but it's not the type of MGS game we've grown up playing. Even with all the confusion in the story, MGS4 was still pretty interesting to play through.

Has to be better than decent if you've beaten the game already,

And I kind of disagree w/ the missions not moving the story along.

If you're listening to the tapes while completing the missions, it moves along, it's just different from previous MGS because it's not super cinematic.

The order was trash
and could be beaten in the amount of time it takes to take a dump

The order wasn't 50 plus hours tho that argument makes zero sense

Which was exactly my point.

Idk about you guys, but I'm not playing a game more than 30 hours if it's just decent.

Mgs 5 don't take 50hrs
It can be beaten WAAAAAAY quicker

I can beat TLoU in under 4 hours, doesn't make it a 4 hour game.

MGS V is gonna take you 100+ hours to beat everything.

I kept playing because I trusted Kojima and the reviews and was expecting it to pick up and match the story of the other MGS games  it ended up being another Portable Ops/ Peace Walker type of game  again, it's a good way to pass the tone for me cause I'm stuck at home.

No idea why people are getting so defensive cause I called it decent but disappointing. I'm disappointed cause I played MGS 1,2,and 3 over and over when I was younger (4, not so much cause of the hour long cutscenes ). It's one of my favorite series of all time. This one will never get a repeat from me cause of all the damn busy work it makes you do to get anywhere.

100+ hours if you do every single meaningless mission (I have no idea why people would put themselves through this). I've put in around 20 and am almost done with the story (the part of the game that actually counts)

Yo how do I get my GZ people into PP and I used the code for my DLC and couldn't find a download.

You have to update GZ then the option is gonna be there

RDR is a classic and arguably Rockstar's best title. I don't know if that was supposed to be an insult. There's a reason he's collecting animals as well or are you not paying attention?
RDR was a good game but when I play MGS I don't play it to be at one with nature while I ride my horse through through the mountains.

I also said the game was filler with all the side stuff
But folks wanted to say I was trippin
Never saw your mention of this but I definitely agree, this game is more filler than anything. All this motherbase and development stuff is so unnecessary and cumbersome, I would have just preferred the great story telling that I'm used to as opposed to the open world and cassettes.

The game is definitely not overhyped  just not as plot driven as I would have liked. The cassettes are cool, but I want cutscenes. I'm probably the only one who didn't mind the cutscenes in MGS4 because Kojima needed to write his way out of that mess of a plot
I think it is overhyped, hopefully something changes my mind but its already really repetitive to me. I've said it before but my main gripe is the lack of variety in terrain. Everything is eitherdesert, village, ruins or a plant so far.

Repped
FINALLY someone who sees the light
Bruh
The ending basically confirms the game as filler :smh:

What ending you talking bout mission 50 or 46?

Lmao folks acting like they paid to bash the game so hard. Especially when they didn't even play it

Bro i never seen a dude troll this hard, dude is just spewing vitriol towards the game, it is a great game, of course its not a perfect game but it is very fun

honestly dude needs to stop, dude hasnt even played the game, reminds me of how dudes judge shoe quality off a video, how you gonna judge quality on a pair of air jordan 1's off a video, smh

Last thing, this game isn't filler, the ending of the game and the main reveal sets up how Metal gear 1 and 2 were possible, and it divulges the resolve of certain characters and shapes MGS 1 and even other games

Edit: Just reported my first user in the history of my NT existence, feels good :nthat:

I have the same complaint and I'm on mission 12 with 20 hours played. While everything is exceptionally well written, the whole game feels disjointed because of the episodic tone. I really want to get into the story but so far there just hasn't been enough to keep me invested. I keep waiting and waiting for snake to say/do something interesting but the dude is just sitting there with a dumb look on his face in every cutscene. Maybe that's part of the narrative but "venom" snake must have lost his balls in the attack 9 years ago.

I don't mind having to go back to the same places for additional missions but other than guys upgrading their armor there hasn't been much variety when returning. And I absolutely hate how there's nothing inside mother base and it takes 30 minutes to get around/get in/make commands in the chopper.

Overall I feel like the overall gameplay design is phenomenal but the sheer amount of stuff to do detracts from the main plot which has been sparse, at best. As of right now I'm most interested in Quiet and she doesn't even speak

IDK I love the franchise and have played every entry but this feels really bland right now when it comes to story. It's a shame because it opened so well and I was like "Yeah! time to get some mother ******* revenge!" But all it's been is explore the boring *** afghan desert and hear Miller complain that everyone is working for cipher.

i just want yall to remember the dude who said it was overrated first
Especially when yall find out the big reveal
In essence the game is all filler and pulled an okie doke on yall

I'm being forced to replay the first half of the game to actually finish the game. "No filler" man the ending better be amazing.

You know it's crazy because I love the codec mechanic from the older ones and I'd prefer the big long cutscenes from 4 to give me the story exposition rather than these tapes where I'm just listening/reading with no facial context.

It's also strange because with other games like bioshock I have no problem running around while the tape is playing and still digesting the information, but here I have to stay on the damn tape screen because the conversations are so dense and verbose.

KEEP TALKIN DAT TALK!!!! :pimp:

MGS3 had the best balance of gameplay, cutscenes, and codec calls. By far the best game of the series. I wish this game followed that route

Can people who own the game just discuss the game now ? Tired of reading of complaints. This thread turning into a side chick

This is my number one isssue as well. This and I always think that audio logs are the laziest possible way to tell a story in a video game.

Also, why are dudes getting so defensive because some aren't feeling the game as much as others? We caping for video games now?

On mission 19 and I have no motivation to finish the game. I prefer MGS 1-4. I hated Peace Walker and this one is almost exactly like it.
